  1. I think Satish is somewhat on board with investing in athletics.  Mostly because I think he's seen over the past 5 or so years that successful basketball and football programs do wonders for national awareness of the university and will almost certainly result in recruiting benefits (for regular students).  Put it this way.  UB is #28 in public universities in the US.  #25-30 are:  Penn State, Virginia Tech, Minnesota, Buffalo, Illinois-Chicago, NC State.  Ask any person in the US regardless of their spots fandom and they will ALL know Penn State, NC State, VT, and Minnesota.  Almost none of them will know Buffalo.  The reason?  Well known and regarded athletics programs.  Having a successful athletics program that gets national attention is huge for recruiting students, faculty, and staff as well as building school pride which results in greater alumni donations.

  2. UB fell victim to the repuation or lack thereof of the MAC this week.  Toledo was a Q1 win on the road that will help in the NET and with tournament seeding but not much with AP voters because...well...Toledo doesn't SOUND like a good win unless you follow mid-majors which most voters don't. Rename Toledo, Indiana (a team 1 behind Toledo in the NET) and the Bulls jump a couple spots.  That's life as a mid-major in conference play.  Wofford and Cinci are gaining votes on UB.  They'll need to get a couple wins but larger margins (20+ this week) in order to keep staving them off IMO.

I love how so many "Buffalo people" crush our football stadium. I see the games just fine from my seats, in fact, I've never once had a problem seeing the game well. For all those who don't like it, please make a donation to the UB football excellence fund today, and make it a big one to fix this "terrible place".

I do however agree with the rest of your statement.

uhh...I have.  The track makes me disconnected from the game.  I do not enjoy watching games there.  I'm glad you do.  However, many people in the community do feel this way, as you admit, and that's a problem if we want people to actually come to games.

  4. Honestly, out of all the capital projects possible for the athletics department, making changes to alumni would probably be bottom of the list.  Not that it couldn't be better, but I think that money would be better spent on making the football stadium not a terrible place to watch a game, or on training/practice facilities which will help lure recruits.  Top of my list would be a dedicated basketball facility for practices, training, etc.  State of the art.

You can see Toledo’s offensive plan...post up on CJ to try to get him his 4th foul. That’s gonna warrant a double then open their 3pt shooters. And you can see our guys are slow on defense for fear of picking up fouls.

Yes, but to be fair, they were slow on defense from the first whistle.  I'm sure the fouls have an impact, but it's not like they came out gangbusters and have had to tone it down.

When we start like this it reminds me what a joke it was to hear Oats talking about NCAA seeding six weeks ago and how UB could/should be a #5.  Cmon guys

Yup.  The 2nd half of the season is showing what UB is.  A very good mid-major that might be able to win a game or two in March, but probably not top 25 long term.
