  1. I have my concerns about Patterson coming out. I hope it’s not my desire to have him back, but it’s feeling like a Tyree Jackson situation all over again. He is a very good running back and think he can do well at the next level, but I am worried that a few things will be held against him. He didn’t finish the season strong in the MACC, plus now he has an injury that everyone will need to research deeply. He’s still 5’9” which was an issue coming to college, it will be held against him again. He comes from a MAC school, so that shaves some points from him. I see these draft rankings and I don’t see him any higher than 8 wherever I look. I don’t think his combine will be eye popping so that will likely not bump him. What makes him special doesn’t show up in the combine except maybe the interview portion. I really hope it works out for the young man, whichever way it goes. I hope he gets better advise than Tyree, but people in the business don’t always tell the truth.

Either way, thanks for a great season, getting UB some national attention and being such a great, humble young man. Best of luck whatever you decide!

I grew up an SU fan due to my proximity, but how the mighty have fallen. He knows in his soul they should have lost the game, unfortunately our team hasn't learned how to finish yet. A loss and a too close call significantly would affect his recruiting. No chance we play them while he is still the coach. No trash talking was involved.

In other Bowl news...South Carolina (2-8) had to back out of the Gasparilla Bowl because of Covid issues and contact tracing.  They can't find a replacement opponent and the game is cancelled.

So UAB,....the team that beat Marshall for the Conference USA Championship gets no Bowl game.  Their season is done.

That's sad for the program and players. A very unfair season all around. I can't believe that no other team would want to play. Is it due to the short time? Didn't see when that was supposed to be played. A 2-8 team in a bowl game. We are on the brink of hell.

We're never going to get into the CFP so if Leipold can keep us bowl eligible most years, I can live with that. Maybe he'll eventually learn how to win a postseason game.

You also need to consider the league we are in. I would rather be a contender every year and keep getting really good recruits and dominating versus the rest of the league. Every team seems to be good for 2 year then complete crap for several years. Ball State hadn't won the championship since 1996! That's typical MAC. We need to dominate for a few more years and move on ala Marshall when they left the MAC. It would have been great to have a championship this year, but honestly, the player choked. They got punched and didn't react well. As for play calling, maybe a few suspect calls, but if Marks makes the catch, it's an easy TD. That was 100% the right play call, but coaches can't catch balls. Hold players accountable as much as the coaches. Did the OL underperform or was Ball State that much better than what Patterson played so far? VanTrease played out of his mind and should be commended. Nunn had two really bad drops that would have been potential game changers. Shit happens, I was as pissed off as anyone, just ask my wife. Let's hope everyone learns from this and brings their A game to the Bowl game and beat Marshall. That will be a solid program win. That's my opinion on the subject.

Yea not looking too good it seems

Probably not, but I really feel that Buffalo will become a balanced offense next year. Run will still be our bread and butter with this coaching staff, which I wholeheartedly endorse. But with Brian Plummer coming in and Patterson and Marks moving on after next year, the offense will look different. It's hard for an 18 year old to see that vision however when there are so many high octane offenses flinging the balls around!

  6. I know he went to Kansas first, struggled and got his payday. Then he went to Liberty and guided them into the Division 1 ranks. I think he realized that schools like Buffalo and Liberty played to his strengths and who he is as a man. I credit him with the start of our current success and never begrudged him for going after the money, but I do think another year would have gotten him to a football school where he could have had success. Unfortunately his wife's hear condition led to his retirement. I think a lot of young men benefited from his tutelage.

I’m surprised people aren’t talking about this signing class more. It’s without question the best in our history, and by a lot. Here’s to hoping Leipold sticks around because if he does we’ll be outrecruiting the entire MAC soon. The couple WRs going elsewhere isn’t all that surprising considering we throw 7 times per game lol.

I know we are ranked 5th in the MAC, but I would agree we got 16 quality recruits. In years past, if we got 1 or 2 3-stars that was huge. Now are getting everyone as 3's with a a single 2-star in there. Terrific balance and great coverage in high school football power states. Well done LL and Co.!

Jamari Gassett did not sign with us today it looks like. A little concerning since he is our highest rated recruit this class according to 247. Also just tweeted he received an offer from Utah yesterday so maybe he still is looking for a better offer somewhere?

I saw the same, would be a shame to lose him, but you never know what goes into these decisions. Hopefully we are still in the mix. WRs thought would have concern coming to a program that has 7 pass attempts in a game. We are playing to our strength, but people want a system that fits them. Notice how many large offensive lineman we can get. We have reputation as a OL factory.

Lance was on the Jim Rome show (yes he still has an actual radio show).  He was asked if he would pick up the phone if a P5 job comes calling?  Lance didn't say NO. But he didn't say yes either.  He went on to say something about only being concerned about where we are at right now, and the big game ahead.

So there ya go.  He's not a secret, and I'm sure LL will get a big offer or two.

It was a really good interview, he's a good dude. He hit the nail on the head too. Recruits are told not to go to a 2-10 team because the coach will be fired, but don't go to a good team either because the coach will go to a better opportunity. That's the issue with the MAC not being a destination job. The only teams that have coaches stick around are 5-7, 6-6, 7-5. Good enough not to get fired, bad enough not to draw attention. I would rather have a coach in demand and bring in the next star coach until we get to a destination conference. Our last 3 ADs at Michigan, Auburn and UCF? Head BB coach at Alabama? Gill goes to Liberty and  between him and Freeze turn them into Top 25. I'll take it. I don't want Lance to go, but I have faith in Mark Alnutt to bring us the next great coach if he has to.

    16. Christopher King - DE/6'3"/235 - NEW JERSEY

    17. Jibrahn Claude - S/6'0"/185 - GEORGIA

We lost Artez Hooker - WR to FIU. Maybe he wanted to stay closer to home or was concerned coming to a run-first offense. We are very heavy on OL, which is great to keep that train moving, very large individuals too, hopefully they have the skills to go with it. A few nice offensive pieces and some backed D help, which would be welcome. A few new pass rushers too. Overall, a solid group so far.

And another set of twins on the Howze brothers, let's hope for more great things from these two!

Not a good job but then again neither was Buffalo for a long time. Could just be media spitballing. Many names being mentioned.

Feels like Gill to Kansas, lower level team in a good conference. We will see what happens. I'm hoping he stays to keep the momentum going, but he has done what he was brought here to do. He changed the culture, made the players believe they are winners. Our current recruits are all 3 star except 1, when he got here, we were lucky to get 1 3-star recruit. Well done Lance, whatever you decide.

UB could play Penn State at Bills Stadium. Considering the Bills owner is an alum, not to mention a top donor, I could see it happening. Down the road the Bills will build a new dome (hopefully) downtown. Why not have the Bulls play there too?

It works pretty well in Pittsburg, so there is precedent.

I think those are available if the coaching staff wants to give them out. They may wait to see if a kid changes his mind that went in the portal

I guess that assumes they want them back. I suppose it could just be a bad fit. Seems odd that a freshman wants out, unless he's buried in the 2-Deep and isn't confident they can beat out the guys in front anytime soon. Plus, as a WR, you have to be able to have certain mentality to be a contributor, if not, you are SOL. Our WRs block very well, someone who has not had to do that in HS may not want that for their career. There are plenty of teams that air it out and throw 50 times again, so maybe that is more appealing.

Will we pick up any surprises this cycle? Anyone know how many scholarships are open?

Not sure how many are available. For the 3 in the Portal, do we get those back immediately or do we have to actually wait for them to transfer? I would hate to lose out on some good players because we were stuck with a guy looking for a greener pasture.

Can we score under 3 minutes in a game?

From what I'm seeing, we are very undisciplined. The players seem to think their athleticism will carry them, but it doesn't work that way at this level. There does not appear to be a court leader. Segu is trying, but we are committing silly fouls and taking terrible shots.

    This is disappointing.

I know that JP planned to social distance from the Ohio defenders during the game...like last week.

Convenient for Ohio not to have to get embarrassed on National Television. Pretty late call if the Bulls were halfway to Ohio. That's what I would call poor planning.

  18. I just looked on 247 and since 11/23 (1 week), there have been 42 decommits. Speaks volumes of the process as it currently stands. They get pressured to commit early then change their mind as necessary based upon who is in their ear at that time. I wouldn’t want to be a recruiter that’s for sure!
