It should not matter if it is the first game or the championship game if these players or any players regardless of their statue on the team there has to be consequences. Responsibility and accountability are sorely lacking in today’s sports world. Again what were these kids thinking and with all the social network that is out there.

Regardless of that, a suspension just seems soft. Punishment doesn’t fit the crime. I’m by no means a fan of players using social media to pat themselves on the back every time they dunk it, but crying for suspensions every time a player posts something semi “controversial” is a pretty dated mindset. This is the way it is now, and it’s not about to change. Was it stupid and classless? Sure, absolutely. Suspension worthy? No way

Have you guys seen the Kent state drama? When trash talk goes too far.

Okay there’s definitely lines to be crossed, and that’s one of them lol. I’m okay with more so trash talk on the court. This is pure classlessness. And not surprising either

  3. As a fan I see nothing wrong with what either said. Like Dooley said, basketball is a trash talk sport. Makes it more interesting to me. From Oats perspective yea you don’t want your assistants saying things but this seems like a big nothing story to me. Hence why it’s from the nypost.

There is no way that wasn’t going to be the case. Bulls lost Graves, and picked up Jack. That’s a wash. No way the MAC is getting 2. So it’s going to come down to Cleveland.

That's kinda my point though, I figured it would end up coming down to the MAC tourney as it does every year, but I was just hopeful that this year would be an opportunity for a two bid league if Buffalo took care of business in the regular season but lost in the tourney.  This team is senior heavy with our best recruits in school history and couldn't even beat SFA.  Obviously there's a lot to play for during the regular season as far as growth, but essentially none of that is even gonna matter until Cleveland.  Just disappointing.

That is what you have practice for...nice try defending an idiot move on your coach's part. Classless. Good luck getting destroyed next week thinking a live practice kick is going to make a difference.

Sounds petty to me. Maybe direct your anger at a UB team that didn’t show up at all instead of at a coach who was doing whatever he can to prepare his team. I see nothing wrong in kicking a pointless field goal in that situation

I Don't know why but I'm really not worried about any big player of ours transferring. I just feel they are comfortable here and know what they are capable of. They all seem to get along for the most part and can definitely make a run at the Mac next year.

I honestly don't think any of them will.  They'd be crazy to do so really, they're gonna be seniors and leaders on the team with a chance to win the conference and try and show themselves off in the NCAA tournament.  I think they stay for a chance to really prove themselves next year and I believe it'll pay off.

Wait so Oats being good is supposed to mean what? The two aren't mutually exclusive. The program can still continue its upward trajectory regardless of where Oats is. The current head coach of UB can't recruit.

No one expected #16 in the country. We did however expect not to lose in the 5-12 game, to not even qualify for Cleveland, lose an unchecked recruiter, not have a pipeline of players, and miss on many new players.

I really don’t understand the knocks on recruiting, we’ve had some good recruits under Whitesell that never panned out due to situations you could never predict. That’s not on him I don’t care what anyone says. Look at chance Robinson. We were all excited to see him play and he was a good recruit. Look at Malik Zachary, same thing. You can’t with good reason blame those two screwing up the way they did on Whitesell. We also have Mballa because of him and his staff! I’m not even the biggest fan of him as a coach either, I promise. But I just don’t feel there is much logic in some of the gripes. In game coaching, yea that’s terrible. And it seems like he’s trying to run a similar team to Oats, but obviously he’s just not as good at coaching. That’s why he was fired from Loyola and oats is in the sweet 16. Up until the NIT game I liked the way we ended the season, played how we all wanted them too. I think going into next year while building off that can lead to a MAC title. 3 years seems fair and you can’t say there hasn’t been improvement from season to season, and even by the end of games this season.

Being upset with our first home first round loss and a season filled with only 2-3 wins against decent teams doesn’t equate to expecting every coach to be Oats.

I expect better than what we’ve had too don’t get me wrong. But context is very important here, year 1 with all our star seniors gone and year 2 with Covid, running into a better team in Ohio. It makes sense those seasons ended the way they did really. I have high hopes that next year we’re back in the tournament, seems like a fair trajectory all things considered.
