  1. I'm not quite sure what is wrong with shaking hands and meeting those who buy tickets to your games and donate to the program. If that wasn't happening,  that would be a pretty big red flag in my opinion.  In the end, the coaches are people and someone that most of the ticket holders/donors would want to meet and talk with.

My stance on it is that "not being bottom 15 in the country" is a reasonable bar for a first year coach. He didn't add the talent to avoid that and he's not doing anything Xs and Os wise to elevate the talent above that so I'd like to know what exactly people think he's bringing to the table.

What are the patient people hoping to see next year? .500 in the MAC if we're lucky? The same record that got Whitesell canned?

.500? Are you watching the same stuff that I am? They will be lucky to win 5 next year in total. This team will be worse next year, if that's possible. Losing Sy, a 1st team mac caliber guy is very big, with nothing in the pipeline.

I also wonder, especially with this being a down year in the MAC, if you had Whitesell and most of last years team.  Curtis Jones, Jack, Zid and Ceaser still playing alongside Chatman, and Adams, would Whitesell have been competing for a MAC championship.  Certainly no way to know as you don't know who would have still transferred.  I am not second guessing the decision and hoping this doesn't open up a debate, but I do wonder.

I don't need to compete for a MAC championship. At this point, I'd settle for being able to compete in a game and watch a game without raising my arms in disgust every possession on either side of the floor.

And the answer is yes, if last years crew was here, they'd have been top 4 MAC this year.  Maybe wouldn't have won (probably wouldn't have), but at least would've been a formidable opponent for teams most of the time, unlike the doormat we currently are.

I think the optimistic ones that remain because realistically you need to give Coach GH3 another season

The guy lost an entire team and needed to start from scratch, should it be as bad as what we are witnessing probably not but fans do need to at least have some patience

Side note if Chatman had played last season whitesell is likely still coaching, which is kinda crazy to think about

"Kinda crazy"? Is having a competent coach "crazy"? This team would be a million miles better under the old regime. Sorry, he wasn't Nate and never was going to be, but he was a solid coach. Now look at what we have.

Why don't we give him 5 more years while we're at it? I mean, this year we can't count because "these aren't his guys" or "he lost an entire team". Next year's excuse will be "these guys are young and growing into the system". The following year will be "we need more money and support". By then, maybe we'll have 10 total wins under this regime, but I'd wager against it, unless they schedule 15 games with Roberts Wesleyan.

This is so sad to watch the absolute disaster that this has become. Watching long time fans and supporters walking out with 10 minutes to go last night, shaking their heads, one after another. You could've heard a pin drop pretty much the entire 2nd half. The only time there is noise is when a t-shirt is being tossed into the crowd. I made it to 0:00, but my head was in my hands. As I walked past the Ball State fans (all 20 of them who made the trip) I overhears one of them say "we were louder than all of their fans" to which I casually replied "you see the product we have, right?". One season ticket holder, Courtside, even mentioned casually that he's likely not renewing next year. This is not good whatsoever, with absolutely zero light at the end if the tunnel, only deeper darkness.

Ball State was a 1.5 point favorite and they win by almost 30 on our court? This team is terrible but the head coach does not sound like he was ready for this gig at all.

Last 2 home games were 1 basket spreads. UB has lost both of those games by nearly 50 total points. I'd love to know how often that's ever happened before.

What a far cry from the days when people bitched about only winning by 8 at home because it hurt our net rank.

What a far cry from leaving a game after the conclusion and saying I enjoyed my past 2 hours.

I honestly think it will be worse next year, and this is the worst product here since pre-2000. Sadly, I still feel that this team has enough skilled players to actually win some games. They are not a 1 win roster. But the one in charge is.

  6. In the end, there's nowhere to go but up from where Mo took this program. As long as he doesn't do to the football team what is currently happening with men's basketball, it is a big time win. There's a lot of work to do with this roster, starting at the QB spot, so hopefully he can bring one (or more) quality guys in immediately! There is no reason why UB can't be at or near the top of the MAC year in and year out, so if we aim for that, hopefully we can at least get to the point of being competent again.

btw - congrats to Tunney Murchie for his UB Athletics Hall of Fame induction!

Let's take a look at those Hall of Fame stats!

Without him UB athletics would still be at the bottom on the MAC with regard to their infrastructure.  It's pretty sad that someone could have anything negative to say regarding his positive impact on UB. There's no one more worthy of a spot in the HoF than him.

Bad head coach or not he did bring in multiple top of the MAC recruiting classes and was considered a solid  coach before taking the job. Definitely doesn’t have the chops to be a head coach, but could be a solid recruiter/ defensive coach

Well, he surely did a great job with the recruiting. This year's class is currently ranked last in the MAC. The quality players that we had returning have transferred out. We currently have no real QB right now, with the previous starter transferring to the powerhouse that is EMU and no QB signees in this current class. Sounds like a heck of a job.

Whoever the new head coach is can hit the portal and promise someone a starting QB job. Fun times ahead I'm sure.

  9. How telling is it when pretty much the entire fan base (as small as it seems to be these days anyway) is either happy that Mo is gone or basically in the mindset of "whatever"? It's incredible to me that someone who made $2mil+ here, with incredibly subpar results, is being hailed as a "great hire" by those online and by the fans of Alabama. What has he ever done? Prior to UB's <.400 record (including .333 versus FCS teams) he left the "co-DC" job before even coaching a game. What a racket this guy has made for himself.

CMU just knocked off Toledo to move to 4-2. Picked to finish 12th in the pre-season coaches poll.  The wild and crazy MAC

All that means is that predicted "bad" teams are getting wins while we haven't been. It only will leave us further behind in the end unfortunately, in the quest towards a top 8 slot.

Given the mid-major environment, I think this is an impossible question to answer. An all too early guess I say at a minimum we have:
    Sabol
    Fulcher
    Graham
    McVeigh
    Diovion

Maybes (these guys have been here for a minute, are good players, maybe they try to get one more year in a better conference)
    Adams
    Jo

    Anticipated Transfers
    Boldin
    Kanye
    Zaakir

And then we get to see how GH3 handles the transfer portal and what kind of talent he's both targeting, and able to recruit (or keep!)

Frankly.... This off-season and the performance of the team next season I think is far more important in evaluating GH3 than this year is.

Diovion? Is he even on the team? Those 5 (looks more like 4) look like bottom 5 in the ncaa quality, and that's if they all stay. Why anyone would want to stay on a 1 win team is beyond me.

I guess we should just give a pass on a 1 win team since it's his 1st year.

I think if we keep Boldin and Sabol that's a great look for GH3. At the same time if we lose one or both of them, it's not something I'd place solely on GH3 because it's the nature of college sports and the mid-major life right now. Normally, I'd say it's a bit unfair to give someone credit but not place the blame on them if it goes the other way, so I see the fault in my logic in this.

My best guess as it stands now is Boldin will be gone and Sabol will be here for another year, have a Curtis Jones type sophomore season, and then transfer.

So what would that leave us for next year? A very lean roster, much worse than this year's...scary.

Every time I see Graham or McVeigh on the floor it reminds me of the Nickelberry era where I'm just sitting here hoping we survive these minutes. Is there any news on Kanye? Also not sure why Zaakir isn't in the rotation I feel like he's been giving us career best minutes recently.

Good call on Nickelberry. Graham and he are similar. Totally appear to be the part and then offer far far less. Kanye no show. Z in street clothes. McVeigh is just so pedestrian out there.
