Danny White came to mind immediately after Lance Leipold's big win today as Kansas upset undefeated Oklahoma. White hired Leipold, Oats, Hurley and Jack. ADMA's hires can't compare. I am uncertain what his vision is for the program.

He certainly went 4 for 4 with those hires, and not even really singles, but multiple home runs!

I imagine anyone who has yet to receive their parking passes can just go to the lot and explain that to the attendant. Doubt it'll be a full house.

The 4 state workers guarded each lot entrance as if it was Fort Knox. Had to make sure the 1000 people in attendance parked in the proper lots. Much like the attendants in the green shirts who kicked numerous people out of the 100 level seats into the endzones, for the scrimmage. Way to make those students feel welcome (likely in their first game attended), even though 101-105 was maybe 1/3 filled at the most.

    A few observations:

    • UB needs their guards to drive to the basket more. I think only Fulcher did.
    • UB needs to be more physical especially when it comes to offensive rebounds. Too many times, UB would shoot up a 3 and there was nobody around the basket for a rebound.
    • Fulcher did good at the point guard but a little less "showy" and more focus on passing.
    • Sabol better find more spots to shoot from. He was waiving other players out of the deep left corner so he could shoot the 3 from there.
    • Chatman looked good late in the game after getting in foul trouble early.
    • Would like to have seen quicker passes around the arc to open up the lanes to the basket.
    • Short bench. That's going to kill them in physical games.
    • Not sure I believe only 8 turnovers as the box score says. I think the official scorer missed a few. Several times UB had balls rolling on the court and they just let them roll away.
    • Always nice when the Marching Band, Cheerleaders and Dazzlers are there.
    • There were 2 guys dancing with the Dazzlers.

I sure hope some of the guys in the warm-ups can play, otherwise it's going to be a long season. Fulcher is definitely fast. Maybe even Ceaser fast, but also a bit bigger and stronger, which is a plus (he was fun at times though for sure). Boldin will bring something to the table. Sy is solid as advertised. We have a very lean bench based off of today, again, hopefully some of those not suited up will be for the opener.

Got there late from my grandson’s hockey game. But, I really liked the energy from the team and coaches. Didn’t feel like same old same old. Also, we grinded it out at the end, where I feel like the last few years we always wilted in pressure situations. Rebounding defensively was bad. Fulcher was much quicker and more athletic than I expected. Think he’ll be a solid PG. Adams and Chatman taking over in late 2nd half gives me some good feelings. Really liked Boldin, but seemed like a newborn fawn trying to stand up for the first time. Felt like he was all gas. End of the day, I feel like we’ll compete this year. To me, this is a different team in a good way.

    I must've attended a different game.

I have a bad feeling Devin Grant may not be a Bull next year. The dude is playing at a different speed

If Grant hadn't gotten tossed for a targeting call in the Fordham game, this team is likely 4-4 and in a far greater position to get to 6 wins. He's definitely a good player and seems to be a stud athlete overall. Finishing up 3-1 is going to be a challenge, 2-2 would've been far more reasonable. We'll see what happens, every game starts at 0-0.

Looks like Curtis Jones had a good start to the Iowa St. preseason in the Bahamas. Not sure how the talent they played against stacks up against D1 teams, but 19.3 ppg over 3 games with a 32 pt game on 8-12 3-pt shooting is pretty solid.

Isaac Jack is hanging out with his Dayton teammates in Paris and announced an NIL payment from Fifth Third Bank on X. Sounds like he is starting off 2023-24 well.

My teammates and I are fortunate to have #NIL opportunities from @DaytonFlyers corporate partners and other community organizations. Earlier today, a transfer from @FifthThird hit my account from @daytonnil while my teammates and I were walking the streets of Paris.

Nice, 2 players that UB developed but couldn't afford to keep.

  7. After a dreadful 3.5 quarters, the Blue Collar Team showed up. Wow.

CJ and Wes looked great on O (as usual). Perk was just awful all game, until the shot that mattered most. Hopefully his knee is okay. Davonte with a huge block at the basket in ending time. He and Dontay are tough to combat for teams.

On to Wednesday. Who'd have thought that about 15 minutes ago?

This will determine what kind of coach Oats really is and how much dirt got on him. I guess we will see if any of these departures affects the current players and recruits.

I'm sure there are plenty of people who would love to be on the staff there. He'll have little problem finding quality replacements. It's a pretty big deal to lose all 3 though, especially considering 2 of them were "his guys" before arriving at Bama and the 3rd being a long time Bama guy. With rosters like he's had and surely the amount they'll pay for coaches, he'll be alright I'd wager.

Hope he gets wear he wants. I guess we will see if BH can coach him better than JW

He played pretty well this year since he was finally relatively healthy, but if he goes to ASU Coach BH is king and JW is clearly a bum. Got ya. Wherever he goes, I'll be rooting for him (unless it's MAC, but doubt it would be).

Zid and Kidtrell are solid players, but the only two players I think will truly hurt to lose are Curtis Jones and Issac Jack.

And Adams and Chatman. Return those 4 as your core, try to convice Laquil to stick around, add a few pieces (start with Dolan to run the point) and this team can be strong next year.

Still a decades away conversation. They’ve never made a final four. And making it there this year or even winning doesn’t make them a blue blood. Great start yes with Oats. But let’s see him finish his career there and win 4 or more titles before that term is thrown around.

I can get behind that. Regardless, they are much closer to the top than the bottom of their league and all schools at this point anyway.

  12. Well deserved, happy for him. He gave this school a great run of teams in his time here. As was said in the Shawshank Redemption "some birds aren't meant to be caged, their feathers are just too bright.". We were lucky to have had him here. What an amazing rise though. From teacher/HS coach, to assistant at a middle of the road mid-major, to head coach at the same mid-major (bringing the team up to top of the line mid-major), to a top-end league middling program and now getting that team to becoming one of the blue bloods. All in like a dozen years. Job well done!

Who wins the BG, CMU, UB tiebreaker?  Head scratcher

UB is currently tied with Ball State and BG. I would think UB gets the tiebreak at 2-0 versus them. Long way to go in the season to worry about tiebreakers right now. Still over 50% of the league season to play. One game at a time. If they can split the next 2 (or better), it'd be pretty solid, considering it's the top 2 squads in the league at the moment. This team has shown they can play great and can stink it up. Hopefully it's the first part more often than the second moving forward, like tonight!
