Basketball is basketball.
Raiding a roster is raiding a roster.
This kid seemingly entered the portal because it wasn’t working out for him at Villanova. Are you speculating that he is left with the intention to follow his coach to a program of higher profile. If not, they’re not the same thing and this wouldn’t be “roster raiding”. That being said, players can do whatever they want within the rules.

What about any guys nova was just "interested" in or maybe given a non committal offer that could be interested in UB
This. I have a feeling he’s got plenty of players in mind that didn’t work out for ‘Nova that could fill some holes in building a first year roster. If he was as involved with their recruiting as it sounds I think he has an advantage over some other guys who are making the jump to HC given the caliber of program he is coming from.

Would obviously be crazy but I imagine he lands at Georgetown or a big-centric P5 like Kansas.
That was before the #New(york)LookBullsInitiative

We could swing for the fences

One thing I am confident is that Halcovage teams will have an identity. On my laundry list of complaints over the last 4 years I think the most glaring for me is that Whitesell had rosters with players on them, not teams. We knew what kind of team we were getting with Hurley: fast, a little arrogant and aggressive. Oats was a little of the same but the arrogance was more subtle and communicated with a smirk, those teams went to battle for each other and held themselves accountable. Whitesell teams were just a group of players wearing the same jersey.

I think, assuming we see success, his list of "jump" opportunities is likely shorter with 'Nova obviously being the dream job. We'll obviously need a significant increase in available funds to keep him around but at a glance this seems more promising than some coaches who very obviously see us as a launching pad.

FYI I split the outgoing transfers discussion to https://ubfan.com/bb/index.php?/topic/9093-‘23-‘24-roster/

It would be nice to have a couple guys rolling around the Final Four with UB gear on, flying the flag. But we might just see the major roll out Tuesday after the Championship game. What's everyone's bet on if we retain Foley? I'm leaning towards no, unless GH wants him to keep the roster intact (😉).
My bet would be that he better have his little black book ready and it better be impressive

Gotta assume we'll learn of at least one assistant today. If it weren't raining I would just take my dog for an 8hr walk....

For how much I have come down on ADMA we now have Coach Mo, Becky Burke and Halcovage… much to be proved but a solid, young group!

Wow! That was a fast interviewing process! How did Texas tech know the coach was interested that soon after the NIT??
This was a near foregone conclusion pre-NIT

4 NBA players tweeting about your coach can’t be bad for recruiting.

looks like Powell is close to transferring as well, getting some big time looks
I don’t know if I want Powell back. He was exciting and showed flashes of strength as an overall but seemed very focused on himself. Iona fans want him bad.

UNT won the NIT and Texas Tech hired their coach an hour later lol

What they are saying about George Halvovage III:
"George is one of the best coaches we've ever had at Villanova. He has recruited, developed, and mentored our players with passion. George is a great leader and basketball mind. We'll miss him and Lizzy. The University at Buffalo is getting a creative, committed Head Basketball Coach. " Jay Wright (CBS / Former Villanova MBB Head Coach)
"George and I both came to Villanova in 2008 and we have grown up together in this business. As a coach he is an outstanding tactician and superb recruiter whose efforts were instrumental in this program's success. On a personal level, he is a great friend, a brother, who will be an amazing head coach at the University of Buffalo. We are thrilled for George and Lizzy as they begin this new chapter of their lives." Kyle Neptune (Head Coach Villanova Men's Basketball)
"Coach G is a great leader and basketball mind. He is more than prepared to lead UB Basketball and represent New York! At Villanova he had constant dialogue with his players and was always focused on doing what it took to help me become the best player I could possibly be every single day. I have great confidence that he will thrive as the Head Coach at UB!" Jalen Brunson (New York Knicks / Villanova MBB Alum)
"I have had the opportunity to watch Coach George Halcovage the past 10 years and I have no doubt he will do an incredible job at The University at Buffalo. George had a hand in every aspect of the Villanova Basketball program as an assistant coach to Jay Wright. He is a tremendous floor coach and tactician with a network of contacts that will help UB build an elite program in the MAC. George possesses the ability to communicate and connect with players while understanding that the role of a head coach is not only to win games but help build a bridge for players to cross after graduation. I look forward to following his and UB's success." Seth Greenberg (ESPN / Former Head Coach Virginia Tech)
