Gonzaga said it took 10-12 years of winning before they could schedule home games.  The closest they got was scheduling a game in Seattle, which would be like UB scheduling a home game in NYC.  So maybe that's what is needed.  Schedule a home game in NYC and then get a top-100 team to agree to that.

So we could have 1-2k UB fans attend a game in NYC instead of in Buffalo?

"Buffalo Mayor tells residents to go to the suburbs."

This is an understated aspect of our inability to draw crowds. People in the Buffalo area think/talk about UB like some regional school. There is no allegiance to the program in our own community. You have a newspaper that can't get over Danny White and a sports radio station that occasionally bumps our wins on sports updates. People think we're some tax-hogging public school tucked away from the city.

As far as students go, no excuse. Name opponent should not matter at all. Back in 2004-2007 they were drumming up interest based on the BULLS and how much fun they were and the different team personalities. Students are spoiled now to have a TOP 25 team to go see!

This. It's so frustrating. From 2004-2008 when I was a student, I would have watched them play an intramural team if we were ranked #17.

Have some pride in your team(s)... Even if you don't, no matter who we are playing ONE OF THE TEAMS IS TOP 20 IN THE COUNTRY (it just so happens to be us).

But the problem is that you need competitive games for fans.  You're not going to attract a student or casual fan to a game to watch UB blow out LeMoune.  No one wants to sit through a lopsided game.  Even the UB season ticket holders are making the way for the exits before the end of the game against Dartmouth.

You need people to see competitive games with drama.

While I agree with this in theory it's more of a business decision than a decision that's "good for the team". The team needs to focus on winning and winning consistently. Leave the sales up to marketing/ticket office.

  5. TBH I don't take the time to consider at-large opportunities. I think our schedule should exist to prepare us for late/post-season play. I don't love the idea of playing SIU twice outside of the fact that they're a gritty team that will keep us on our toes. For the most part, I don't see the draw unless it was a cross-town (or close proximity) rival.

UB is in a position to control their destiny but the goal should always be to win the conference championship, barring significant injury this year coming short of that would be a major disappointment. If we do get upset in Cleveland an at-large bid is still probably unlikely unless we win-out OOC.

We will try to survive!  You must not think UB has much of a chance at an at large if things don’t go the right way in the MAC tourney.

I don't like to depend on other teams but more importantly I don't like your team or the majority of your fanbase  😛

Dons fan here, just checking in. I expect this to be a great game as well. Love to have a crack at at Top-25 program like yours to gauge just where we really are right now. USF biggest strengths so far have been defense and team rebounding. They are a very well-coached team that tends to minimize mistakes, especially at the PG position, where Frankie Ferrari has a very high assist-to-turnover ratio. They are a tough group to rattle, that's for sure.

A quick rundown of the starters:

Frankie Ferrari (PG) - As mentioned, doesn't make a lot of mistakes (9 assist, 2 turnovers in today's win). Will drop at least one assist a game that makes you go "ooooohh"

Charles Minlend (SG) - Probably the most talented overall player on the team. Can be streaky.  Has a great nose for finding ways to score.  You will look at the box score at the end of a game and think, "where did those points come from."

Jordan Ratinho (SG) - Fantastic three-point shooter. Usually guards the other team's best perimeter guy. A real lunchbox kind of player

Nate Renfro (F) - An incredible dunker. Likes to shoot threes too, although he doesn't shoot a high percentage. Great defender/rebounder. Insanely athletic. Terrible FT shooter

Jimbo Lull (C) - Slow as hell, but has improved his game considerably this season, causing teams a lot of problems in the paint. Splits minutes in the post with Matt McCarthy, who is a wily veteran that has a lot of moves around the basket.

    Good luck tomorrow!

Welcome to the board, thanks for the cliff-notes!

Glad we get to see this matchup out of a tournament with an otherwise unimpressive set of teams.

But the advanced numbers are even higher on Massinburg. Buffalo scores 110.2 points per 100 possessions as a team. With Massinburg in the game, that figure spikes to 148.3. That would easily be the best offense in the country. Massinburg is one of the top offensive players in the game, regardless of conference.

I know CJ gets plenty of love but man is he good. I'm starting to think we can confidently say he's the best 4 year player we've ever had.

I saw a post on our board that Cheli's was going to be closed (for good, I guess) before the MACC game - you might want to check on that. Some NIU fans used to go there, some of them also go to Hockeytown which is nearby (I have not gone there).

NIU has placed way too much reliance on their defense all year, as the offense is anemic. And that's putting it nicely. The run game isn't too bad, but the passing game is non-existent. We also don't seem to play well overall at Ford Field, for whatever reason. I was surprised that the line came out at Buffalo -4 as I thought they'd be favored by more. Possibly I put too much weight on the last 2 games when the division was already decided, I don't know. But they were depressing games to watch, at least on offense.

    Welcome to the board.

I see we're both a little let down by the way some of our season's played out. Trying to just appreciate the opportunity to play for a MAC Title and get excited for this one. Here's to a injury-free game from both teams heading into the bowls!
