  1. How might this affect NIL? Many companies forbid employees from accepting compensation from outside sources.

How could this impact schools with unprofitable sports programs?

Should school administrators be allowed to fire athlete-employees without coaches making that decision?

Will the hiring of athletes have to follow the same rules as other hirings?

I am calling BS on the stadium as why people are not going to UB games.  I have decided against going to see any game because of the facility it was going to be played in.  I have never gone to a facility and said that I am not going to see another game because of the quality of the facility.  For all the people on this and other message boards or spying platforms (Discord for those of you scoring at home, or even if you are alone) claiming that the stadium has issues, I do not remember one person saying they were giving up going to games because of the facility, and yes I have gone to basketball and hockey games as well as concerts in the Aud.

For those who complain about soccer lines on the field, have you seen a Patriots' home game recently?  Soccer lines do not seem to be an issue for people in Foxborough.

Also, how many people beyond these boards are complaining about the stadium?  At most, and this is being very generous, there are maybe 15-20 people here who complain about the stadium.  As for removing the track, I know it has hurt UB for conference realignment in the past, but look at other stadiums that used to have tracks.  YOu can still see the make out of ht the track inside of them.  For four schools, take a look at Ohio State, Maryland, Wisconsin and James Madison.  If you look at the picture of the James Madison's facility in another thread, you can still make out the track.

I’m a UB alum. I go to every home volleyball game, women’s basketball game and softball game. I used to attend every home men’s basketball game (since 1971) but stopped very recently. Why? The facility, the parking, the concessions, the restrooms, the postgame traffic control all suffer from even moderately large crowds at AA. For me it’s just not worth the aggravation. I don’t attend football games for other reasons but the perception that you’re sitting a mile from the players certainly doesn’t help.

So UB needs to get "serious about building and supporting winning programs" before making a donation.  That is an assumption without basis, that UB does not want build and have winning programs.

But they need money to get "serious about building and supporting winning programs".

You have a created a chicken or egg situation, with the result of UB not having the money that you believe that they need.  That makes you part of the problem and not the solution.

I don’t throw good money after bad.

To paraphrase Lance Leipold's, football is football and to paraphrase Sabrina Ionescu's, if you can shoot, shoot; money is money and it can be used for anything.

Since you have given a total of of $0.00, you do not have the right to mock anyone who donates anything for athletics.

He has the right to mock anyone he wants and you have the right to not like it. Until UB gets serious about building and supporting winning programs, and until someone can show me a positive correlation between private donations and success on the court/field, I’ll keep my money in my pocket.

Hockey was looked into years ago.  It was too expensive and there would need to be either the addition of women's sport(s) or dropping of existing men's sport(s).  The cost has not gone down since the last time it was looked at.

And didn’t UB cut a handful of sports around 7 years ago to save money? They’re very unlikely to add another sport.

  6. Couple of unusual moments in the game…UB scores easy layup inbounding under their own basket after bouncing ball off the defenders butt. Late in 2nd quarter UB player drives to basket and gets called for foul…she then threw the ball onto the floor near the defender and very clearly mouthed “a$$hole” in front of the ref - no call.

That’s how you lose games like this versus a lesser opponent on your home court.  A couple less turnovers leading to points the other way, and another made 3, and Bulls probably win.  Frustrating loss to say the least

Yes. Any of 1 or 2 fewer unforced TOs (traveling), 1 or 2 more kick-outs to an unguarded Ogden beyond the arc, 1-2 fewer attempts to drive in the paint against 3 defenders, 1-2 fewer cheap calls from UB-killer Steratore.

Agreed on the uncalled 3 second violations but, assuming you're talking about the inbounding play at the end of the third quarter, the it was the correct call. Because it was an out of bounds call, KLW (the inbounder) needed to have one foot planted when inbounding. Amazingly none of the Akron players noticed it despite it happening right in front of them.

Oh, I wasn’t excusing the inbounding violation because I couldn’t see what happened from my seat. Rather, it was my dismay at refs for not applying the same attention to detail when it came to 3 sec violations. As far as the throw-in, I thought players could move but not more than 3 feet. No?

  9. Just an aside…

In a close game like this every possession counts. I had to shake my head when ref called an inbounding violation on UB (I assume the player stepped on the line), but completely ignored several pretty obvious 3-second violations by Akron.

Basketball always seems to get more engagement than football. I wonder if it is because there is no NBA team in Buffalo. But yes I agree, I love the activity.

Could be in some small part that I can go to a BB game and be close to the court instead of sitting 100 feet or more from the action at a FB game; that I can see the BB players’ faces and recognize them on and off the court; that there are several-fold more home BB games than FB games. Basketball is by its very nature more intimate than football.

Likely to be plenty more of that in the coming years.

Personally I'm glad the players are finally being paid what they're worth, though I acknowledge that UB will likely just end up a feeder to higher-profile schools.

I’m unclear how to find a player’s “worth”. Is that an objective or subjective value?

What an ending by SDST. Good thing some guys can still make mid-range jump shots, eh?

Perfect storm of crap for FAU…phantom calls by refs, epically bad defensive rebounding, really poor strategy on last possession (I know the arguments each way, but I hate the one they chose).

  13. Anyone watch Kansas State v. Michigan State? Toward the end of OT it appeared that MS player fouled KS player’s 3 pt attempt. I had a few distractions and the sound was off, but when I returned to the game  a minute later KS was not awarded any free throws. What happened?

In all honesty, I just got my annual letter asking me to re-up my donations to the university.   It's been sitting on my desk, I hadn't written the check yet.

With the university showing today that they're willing to invest in their athletics programs and not settle for middling performances on the court, I'll be donating more than usual this year.  The School of Management and Honors Program will be getting a little bonus this year as a result of this one.

How do you know how much they are willing to invest toward the basketball program?

I don't know how you can, by that time ub would be a bottom feeder program where other suny schools could very well be considered a better program

Maybe I am be being dramatic

It’s impossible for any other SUNY school to be better…UB is NY’s Public Powerhouse. It says it right on the court!
