  1. Besides his injury, looks good, very happy his academic profile fits and he will find success through UB.

I guess they arent mulling over using Patterson at ILB with Thompson and Woetzel on board. And they want better depth to take advantage of Wright and Max Michel for pass rush depth.

  2. The podcast with Alnutt provided a lot of insight LINK

If the Kansas St game is picked up by Fox it would be a great bonus to having 2 money games, along with the late season game at Michie being on CBS Sports Network. Gotta think Ohio St would at least be a BIG 10 Network possibility, too. We've had the majority of our games on national tv broadcasts the last 2 seasons, so another 7-8 games this season would be great if we hit expectations.

An ESPN writer has already reviewed pre-season expectations and have us at 7-5 (5-3) second in the East...even without Ohio having any solution at QB(!?!)..hmm Link

And #2 in the MAC Link

  3. Buffalo News reported Vantrese recovering from a foot injury from the season. Myers still slow to get back in full practice but has been training and some 3 on 3. And UB says he won't get an injury redshirt per the NCAA process. So it will be good reps for Bycznski, Case, and Chase.

McDuffie sitting for obvious reasons. Dominic and Finegan still out with their recoveries.

  4. Our media love hangover from years past may finally disappear...ESPN had our SBU matchup in their Week 9 Viewers BB Guide, and for good reason. We were also in the Week 10 Guide at #6:

    6. Buffalo Bulls at Ball State Cardinals (Tuesday, 7 p.m. ET)

This clash is a perfect opportunity to see if Buffalo -- which came into the season as the favorite to reach the postseason out of the MAC -- has officially turned the corner under new head coach Jim Whitesell.

Losses to Dartmouth and Army dimmed the Bulls' outlook, but they've won three of their past four thanks to the recent success of Jayvon Graves and Davonta Jordan. Even sophomore forward Jeenathan Williams has stepped up, scoring in double figures in his past five outings.

On the flip side, Ball State has seven upperclassmen, including leading scorer Ishmael El-Amin, big man Tahjai Teague and the uber efficient Kyle Mallers. The Cardinals shouldn't be overlooked in this scenario, so expect the Bulls to bring their A-game in order to capitalize on one of their few chances to earn a quality win for the remainder of the season.

And we got out and get smoked by 20 in conference for the first time in years. I don't blame anyone who now may advise against watching as our "perfect opportunities" are squandered.

  5. For those of us who are not Bills fans our only solace today is in the women's team being 1-0, just reloading, and a 12 seed in ESPN Bracketology. Though NIU may not be so weak since they were picked 2nd preseason in the West. We knew who shocked us last season and I'm not sure why coach and the team didn't come out ready for German to ball.

We need a Caruthers, someone who just sets the defensive tone and can make plays on the other end. But a 2-time MAC D Player of the year is hard to replace. We have the bigs, the athletes, the [streaky] shooters. But it's not Johnson, or Graves, and Jordan has regressed/worn thing covering for others. Segu's offence is his best defence.

After he fouled out in 15 minutes against UConn, I was nervous about him being in foul trouble all the time.  Since then I’ve been pleasantly surprised how little trouble there has been... only gotten 4 fouls once in the past eight games.  Hope he keeps it up.

I used to think he was good for a few minutes and 5 fouls, too. He improved, and once I saw him starting vs Deamen, his stats fit what I imagined of his contribution: 11 mins, 3 pts, 4 boards, 0 fouls. If he can average 10 mins, 4pts 4 boards off the bench, body up the big uglies of the MAC like Vander Plas and Knapke, perfect.

Will Johnson ever have a good game scoring the ball again? 32% from the field is straight embarrassing for a Senior with his experience. We are 13 games in, there is no excuse.

I totally agree, he needs to show up tonight. If he doesnt pull more offensive weight Id prefer he comes off the bench and we start Mballa, Hardnett, and Williams together, when our bigs are healthy.

  8. Rice would be our true AAU peer, and Marshall would be the only squad whom we have some history. It would be cool to play ODU and the Florida schools for some reasonable recruiting in-roads. Otherwise the costs, potential lack of increased fan interest, and CUSA's scattered and low revenue media deals would make things tough. Plus, we'd likely have to drop wrestling since CUSA does not sponsor the sport and the MAC likely would not let us stay. CUSA has been ok for the former SBC schools and the start-up football programs, but has dulled the UTEP and Southern Mississippi brands, schools with high hopes of MWC and AAC, respectively, saving them.

  9. I had to work yesterday so I caught the stream at my desk, then lost it. So I started listening to the BGSU play by play. It reminded me of the UB calls from 15-20 years ago, no energy, feeling bad of the Sr's, few underclassmen bright spots to discuss. They were conceding there was no way Marks was not going to reach 1000 yards by end of game and began talking of Michigan-tOSU instead. I made me appreciate how our team found their identity and ran with it. 49 points in back to back games to seal the deal. The what-if's persist for me too, but are balanced by thinking of our 2-4 start and losing some hope for a bowl bid. I'm already trying to hold back feeling so pumped for 2020, because of key redshirts.
