  1. Yep, I ran into Victor E. in Norton today but he just danced and high fived me. I took that as a good omen.

UAlbany board saying UB was very good. Albany was picked 4th in AE. Also BGSU topped Depaul.

  2. I asked myself that question many times back then, sitting in 0 degree weather, snowstorms, blowouts, close loses where we could move the ball but end drives in futility. We did not have a single player named 1st team All-MAC until 2007 and just SIX All-MAC 2nd Team selections between '99 and 2006. I went for love of UB. We had to stomach few sacks, even 800 yard rushers, 2000 yard QB's, and at most 1 reliable reciever, most of those years.

I think Kato Nelson might be better than all QBs we had until Willy, but their team looks as bad us UB in it's worst years. Without him and our D playing outstanding they had no chance.

  3. For me, Ohio and Kent St. We have played them more then any other MAC squads, we have a winning record vs the Flashes, and we are the only MAC schools with enrollments over 30k. Through those early 2000 suffering years I could count on good (bad?) contests with those teams. So I looked forward to them. Our first MAC road win was at Kent. Our first 3 year streak defeating a MAC foe was Kent. After them I like playing Toledo, because of their yearly toughness and their nice stadium.

Being born in WV, I liked Marshall when they were winning 1-AA titles, but in the MAC and my attending UB, I grew to dislike them. Shady recruiting, bombing our early 2000 teams in football, but likely hurting our 2004 at-large MBB chances as their teams were so bad in RPI.

  4. I haven't seen any updates on Myers. As it is now, with some injured players possibly back next week, it may not matter who starts, because Akron hit the 0-6 record today with only 3 points scored vs the Flashes. We should come out fired up after last week and ready to pount the Zips.

    Also today of note:

Temple wins again, Ohio was edged by NIU, Miami lost to WMU, BGSU surprised Toledo, Ball St beats EMU.

When you're a program who has won 4 of the last 5 conference tournaments, were regular season champions 3 of those seasons, have the highest rated recruiting classes 4 years running and have a low amount of transfers out of your program comparable to conference foes, you should have every expectation that you're going to be the top program at the end of the year. Sure we graduated a lot but we're bringing in better talent every year. Buffalo has transfers from Houston, Cincinnati, Texas Tech, Middle Tennessee State - all were top 25 caliber programs at the time those transferred players were on their rosters. Our decommitted  recruits from last year all went to power conference schools.

They're on another level from the rest of the MAC until they prove otherwise or until another MAC school rises to the occasion.

Great post, and don't forget Nickelberry was originally at Memphis, too! I wouldnt be shocked if he steps right in and makes a bigger impact than Johnson or Hardnett, maybe a top 3 scorer and rebounder, with even better passing and stronger finishing at the hoop than Harris had.

Ugh. Just awful. The story of this season are a Really good Oline and RBs getting offset by Poor kicking game, and nothing special at QB or WR.   Although it was good to see some of the other receivers get some action today.  D played hard on the home field, made some plays, just couldn’t close it out.

I think this game showed there would be little drop off if Vantrease gets more playing time. He was 10 for 10 to start, and would have finished 18-23 for over 200, if not for 2 very bad third down drops by Lefebvre. Myers may become like Rourke, but the last few games with him the passing game was truly lacking, and his turnovers killed us.

  7. I sat there thinking if it goes to OT there is no way we win when we dont have a quality kicker vs their All MAC specialist. Bingo. I don't fault the time out on the 4th and 1 since the clock was running down, but how can you trust a true frosh there for over 40 yards? Just because he made a prayer from 52, that is 1 kick vs the sample size and percentages. I prefered to go for it and if you come up short, then fine. But we were so good on short yardage today.

  8. Bronstein dropping a huge bomb! But not toally surprised. Lance has been talking up young players when pressed for specifics. Yesterday he named 5 players possible at Center, then said Novitsky is getting the 1st team reps. So a R-FR, snapping to a R-FR, handing off to stud Soph. RB's. *Fingers crossed*

  9. The newest UB Football Insider gives the sense that we will use our backs much more in the passing game. Even Ron Cook Jr has shown well and could get some snaps, possibly as a return man. There was also a comment from Awosika gleefully saying Lefebvre being our TE/WR weapon.

In the News today said "Ruiz, Nunn, Daniel Lee, Jordan Overton and LeMaro Smith" missed Saturday's scrimmage. Leipold said many WR's will be used this year.
