  1. I always felt bad for our Royals after learning they had won 2 ECC women's basketball tournament titles and no post-season.

I didn't attend UB until Fall 1998 so I missed the fresh-restart-at-D-1-to-decent Bulls ECC/Indy/ECC/Mid-Con years, and only Kleidon, Libomi, and Alexeev were roster veterans in 1998. So I had to start cheering through 5 seasons of rebuilding men's basketball and 10 losing Football seasons. At least the women's teams were competitive under Dozier. I assume that is why I am more optimistic than many others at times; I've soldiered through the worst MAC years.

The 4 from before are still shown along with Coach Mo. Rob Ianello is now listed as WIDE RECIEVERS/RECRUITING COORDINATOR. Might not be bad to keep him if we can.

Now he is updated to Tight End/Recruiting Coordinator. So they will have a new WR coach hire.

  3. Right now the coaching roster is updated with Ianello and Kotelnicki still there. I thought Kotelnicki would be gone the same as the others. Wondering if any chance he stays or it is just a matter of time he is off to Lawrence. Burrow, Reed, and Ricumstrict as expected still in board.

  4. Nothing specific in tweets or on message boards. I went through several B10 boards and no posts worrying of losing an assistant. Rutgers gave a few of their coaches raises, including $600K to Fran Brown. I like Moorhead and Lembo but they are so fresh in their P5 jobs I doubt they would jump now. CMU fans have worried we'd scoop up the Ferris St coach, another with big win totals at a lower level, but I haven't seen him mentioned for the job.

  5. So based on what Thamel has tweeted Lance's staff should be filled, 7 from UB with 4 from Miles staff staying, 2 in limbo, the OC, DC, OL Coach, Recruiting guy all out. All coaches out are midwest/southeast roots. More Kansas players entering the portal, too.

It's not even worth being a fan of a non-power 5 athletic program any longer. Coaches leave, players can come and go with the wind...it is impossible to get excited about what might be a good season upcoming when everything may change at any time at a moments notice. I just don't care any longer.

I think I will go look for an SEC team.

You'll have to look at the top of the top. Even for me, as a mild, secondary fan of WVU sports, the 'eers lost Beilein AND Rich Rod to Michigan within a calendar year. The majority of P5's are no saving grace for fans, either.

  7. I'm sort of relieved it would not be Ianello or Kotelnicki, I don't assume staying in the family is the best move, nor that they are the best choices. But now the challenge for any new coach will be a smaller free agent assistant pool this time of year. Lots of work to be done seeing which assistants with jobs a new HC can pull to UB.

Maybe you should follow the Bills a little more. If you knew what the Ryan regime was like you'd never want them near this team.

Not a fan but hard not to follow the Bills media since I live here. True, he hammed it up while the D was crap and terribly average football. I still appreciate the Ryan name and his Ravens D and Jets teams. But, tough to imagine calm, professional Alnutt trying to corral Rex coaching as Rex coaches.

So far no posting on the NCAA job site

Brad Riter and Scott Wilson did a podcast last night with a pretty comprehensive list of options for coach. Good listen.
    https://www.trendingbuffalo.com/commentary/podcast/ubbulls/now-what-ub-coach-lance-leipold-heads-to-kansas/

I had to listen to it twice to believe it all. Wilson explained the situation very well and was on fire with some of those coaches named. Herman, RichRod, Doc Holliday, Tebow..whew, attention grabbing names for sure. I am not a Bills fan so I have even thought, why not call Rex? Not coaching, Buddy and UB, toss him $1M (he already has enough $) and bring Rob along and our games would always be televised as their defence kills MACtion..or not.

I wasn't too hot on Moorhead during the last coaching search but I'd be all for it now. Though his $900K salary with the Ducks might mean some private donations are needed. A tweet from an Altoona reporter stated Pry is not interested, which makes sense with his salary and loyalty to Franklin. Phil Parker (Iowa DC) and Nick Sheridan (Indiana OC) could get more cash coming to UB.

  10. UB has never had a HC who was an 1-A/FBS HC before being hired. Maybe that could change with this hire.

Pollian grew up here and has the family name, an actual former HC, ran the 4-3 and pistol at Nevada, special teams coach skills would be nice, lots out there on why he didn't get extended at Nevada. Lembo has the MAC history and is well regarded. Tim Beck and Lance Taylor would also be impressive options. As a former assistant, Liguist is someone whose career I hadn't followed since he left here, but I recall he was a strong assistant. I'm very impressed where he is now. Kenres the Toledo DC would just be another Leipold, with a gaudy Mt Union D-3 record.

The other names are basically what the media tosses out when we have searched for a HC in the past, NJ-based names and a bunch of lower-staffed P5 assistants.

Honestly, I think ADMA will get this hire right.  2 things have me saying that.  1. He's a football guy.  2. He will likely want to make a splash that will look good on his resume.

Agreed, and we should have more money on hand too. The athletics portion of Boldly Buffalo was already doing very well reaching Athletic Department goals, now it is Boldly Buffalo Billion

A school: Yes. Kansas lists its institutional peers as: BUFFALO, Florida, MSU, Indiana, Colorado, Iowa, Missouri, UNC, Virginia, Oregon

As a program: No, not yet. And Kansas in a state with not much else going on to invest in, and a school getting Big 12 checks of close to $40M. We could fund our entire athletics budget with a check like that.

  13. I'll continue my daydreams of the last 10 years of Jim Haslett, Dave Clawson, or Sean Kugler. All guys with local ties and lots of experience, but not realistic. We have seen certain MAC schools take former FBS head coaches in Solich and McElwain, but it is far from the norm. My first bet is also Ianello.

Maybe we can steal Sean Lewis from the Flushes 🤪

Is there a coach on staff that will be promoted?

Borland would likely go with him.

Ianello is there, great recruiter and personality, but his stint at Akron and the "I-Coach" name by their fans was a really a bad look.

  15. Battle is no longer an assistant at ETSU. Based on tweet I read, it seems Desmond Oliver met with Battle and they agreed to part.

I have wondered if he could become a head coach at the HS or non-D1 level somewhere. I am one who would like to see him become a serious candidate at UB in the future, and for him to gain some team leader experience would make him stand out with UB in the future. Being an alumni, pro player, and 4 assistant coach stops so far, hadn't pushed him past other UB finalists.

  16. Some Tennessee intrigue with UB and WNY ties. I saw ETSU and their coach parted ways this week after disagreements with the team kneeling. Turner Battle is still listed on the staff with one other assistant.

Today I read none other than Desmond Oliver could step over from the Vols and be named ETSU coach. Who knows if Battle could hold on there if that happens, or move elsewhere. But one tweet also mentioned Gaines could follow Oliver to ETSU.
