I strongly suspect it will be Ianello for a few reasons:

    • This is Alnutt...I have low expectations.
    • Ianello has head coaching experience in the MAC
    • He has been with the team for 5 years...he is an associate head coach.  Since he is also the recruiting coordinator as well, keeping the recruits by moving the recruiting coordinator to the head coach is probably helpful (since he likely has a relationship with the recruits).
    • Umm...it is April 30th.   Who are we going to get?

I am sad that LL made this decision.  I strongly suspect he will be a former coach of Kansas in a few years...and not for the good reason.

This is a team that ended last season ranked #25, so it isn't an undesirable job and the last two coaches we got (Quinn and Leipold) had pretty strong resumes. I know the timing isn't ideal, but we shouldn't just give up on a good search. Would love to see them bring in Emmett Jones, the now former interim coach at Kansas. Fan base loved him and was only making $225,000.

I really hope it isn't Ianello. I'd be willing to give one of the other assistants a chance, but not a huge fan of hiring a guy who has failed as a HC in the same conference.

Not hard to get this point. When someone that tries to throw the it's all quiet line at you, ask them how recruiting looks and who is going to play guard with Segu next year? It's literally empty.

We will see if they don't get bounced by BG/Miam/Ohio next week before gloating about potentially finishing 4th-5th in the regular season again.

As said by others above, we don't know who is leaving and who is staying, not sure why you are so negative.

IF all seniors leave, we'll still have Maceo and Malik at guard to go along with Segu, PLUS 5 open scholarships to get a grad transfer.

    Cupboard is far from bare.

I saw a tweet a few months back from a national media person  that basically said, in the Northeast if LL offers a kid, the next day the kids school has about 15 calls to learn more about the kid. He is an extremely well respected identifier of talent. It shows with our team too, we have a significant amount of Walk-ons in our 2 deep and obviously the under recruited players succeeding speaks for itself.

I hope this is true, but I think he is a better teacher than identifier of talent.

I agree, at times the play calling is suspect, but he is in the running for assistant coaching honors, so I'm with you, get the win, have better players and let's keep staying at the top of the conference.

Also, to get a WR from Florida to come to Buffalo, that still continues to amaze me, but I hope the young man becomes a star!

Trevor Wilson and Antonio Nunn both from FL

But who cares about these ratings? Sure maybe some of the dedicated fans here monitor them (and I appreciate the detailed insights at times) but if they don't translate to wins the general public doesn't care, potential donors don't care, media outlets don't care. The "state of the program", IMO, is simply judged on Ws and Ls. Sure, if we play a bunch of power teams and hang with them that can help but I don't think anybody cares about an "almost comeback" against another middling MAC team...

So, should we play a non-conference schedule of cupcakes just to increase win totals? Seems counter-intuitive.

Sure, wins create excitement on the surface...but quality games prepare the program better for a tough conference schedule and the NCAA tournament.

He'll get playing time for sure with his experience. WKU has 19 players looking elsewhere in the portal, mostly recruits of their former coach. Tons of transfers coming in too.

I guess we don't have it too bad. I can't imagine how you rebuild off a losing season in the worst conference (CUSA) with 19 players in portal

  7. Although LL has stabilized the program and delivered the best two seasons in history, I don't see him fitting well with a Power 5 school. The fanbase would likely sour quickly on his style of play, and he doesn't have best the best recruiting resume.

Additionally, in his 6 years as Head Coach at UB, he is 12-20 against winning teams and 12-25 against teams rated in the top 100 (Massey Ratings). Those aren't exactly earth shattering figures, though much better than any of his predecessors.

If he does leave, he leaves the program in much better condition than he found it in, which should help the candidate pool.

Better now than leaving thru the portal in a year if he doesn't think Buffalo is where he wants to be. I guess he doesn't think our current success and the program that we are becoming is better than a mid-level ACC team. I trust Lance and Co. they will fill the hole.

I don't think this had anything to do with Lance or the team. It seemed like he was waiting for a offer from Pitt for quite some time. Once he got the offer, he committed to them immediately.

With the recent success, hopefully UB can fill his scholarship with another highly ranked prospect that truly wants to be in Buffalo
