Does ADMA have a friend who is a wrestling coach that needs a job?
That's what I was wondering. Seems like a move you would make if you had somebody lined up. Or maybe it was something petty like Stutzman wanting more support and Alnutt got sick of hearing it.
-
Probably not going to find anybody more passionate to lead UB wrestling than Stutzman, especially with him being an alum. Headscratcher for me.
-
Interesting list. Miami OH made the top 10. JMU is leading the pack - by a lot.

A great 1st followed by a dreadful 2nd, outscored 26-7. Are we going to just let our season end like this?
Just read that Monmouth had a school-record 12 game road winning streak. Not really a team you want to host. Hope we didn't pay for it.

Doesn’t guarantee it. But I’ll bet the teams in the Final Four or heck most teams in the second weekend have a strong NIL program.
NIL is just another way for the rich to get richer. A strong NIL program just shows that there was probably already strong financial backing from donors - now they're just funneling their money into players rather than programs. As far as parity goes, it's a flawed system at this point.

UB’s NET ranking is 185. Seems like we may be a little short of making the cut
I'm optimistic that UB will get an invitation to one of the tournaments.

Your definition of "rip some ass" must be different than mine!

I’ll just drop this here for everyone’s reference. The comprehensive fee covers pretty much everything outside of of tuition, the break down is included in the link. Currently the fee is approximately $1,484 (so 1500). Athletics receives 12.3% of that per student, multiplied by the student body, that brought in $9,580,417 last year. Interpret all this as you choose
https://www.buffalo.edu/studentaccounts/tuition-and-fees/broad-based-fees/comprehensive-fee.html
Keep in mind that the Athletics portion "Supports 20 competitive sports teams, open and structured recreation (payroll and infrastructure), intramurals and sports clubs." So even the $9.58 million isn't an accurate picture of the money that goes toward D1 athletics.

A tough test against JMU, but you never know.
On that note, ADMA should take a hard look at whatever JMU is doing. They just moved to D1, have a 30-3 basketball team, a juggernaut mid-major football team, fantastic facilities, they are also kicking ass in many Olympic sports and are in a far superior conference. They should be a model of how this should work. I'm guessing they have something going on with NIL, but I don't know. They certainly seem to have the right coaches in place.
They are also a Virginia state school, not sure how that compares to SUNY, but it's not like Liberty with buckets of donor money pouring in and decades of tradition that is pulling in vast amounts of cash.
From JMU Wikipedia: "In 2020, the annual athletic fee for each student was $2,340, which finances three-quarters of Athletic Department revenues."
I'm not sure how this fee compares to UB, but I'd guess that UB students don't pay nearly that much toward athletics.

...and was fired along with football head coach Rich Skrosky after Elon's 2016 season because the team was trash
And who did Skrosky work for before that?
Skrosky coached the offensive line under Ball State head coach Pete Lembo at Elon from 2006-08 and was promoted to offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the 2009 and 2010 seasons
What's your point?

Horton was an assistant at Temple from 2017-2019 - he was fired from Elon after their 2016 season
It's right on his resume:
Ok, so from 2014-2016 he oversaw 17 programs and 400 student athletes at Elon.

Elon Phoenix record with Ryan Horton as Director of Strength & Conditioning:
2014 - 1-11
2015 - 4-7
2016 - 2-9
"Horton was the director of strength and conditioning at Elon from 2017-19. He oversaw the training program for 17 sports consisting of over 400 student-athletes."

UB football coach Pete Lembo presses the flesh to help program's profile
Rachel Lenzi
January 24, 2024
Pete Lembo sat in an upper corner of Alumni Arena on Tuesday night, about 15 minutes before the University at Buffalo men’s basketball team’s tipoff against Ball State. He was barely two days on the job as UB’s new football coach, but already making the rounds, chatting with the Bulls’ football season ticket holders and campus stakeholders.
Lembo made his first foray into the campus community. During his introduction earlier Tuesday, he reiterated the value of public engagement – a facet that’s especially important as Lembo has immediately become the new face and personality of UB football, and one of the highest-profile employees at UB.
...
The initial engagement with UB’s fan base is both timely and necessary. Lembo’s arrival to UB comes as the football program has seen a drop in attendance and in contributions, and is coming off a 3-9 season.
...
At the under-12 timeout, with Ball State leading 20-18, Lembo sported a UB athletics quarter-zip – a more casual change from the blue patterned sport coat he wore earlier in the day at his formal introduction – and took the court during a media timeout and addressed the 2,000-plus in attendance.
Is this to prove that Lenzi is a "propaganda arm of UB" ?

Other schools around this time of year filled their vacancies in 2-3 days, so 5 is not unreasonable.
True, and UB was one of the few (or maybe the only) head coaching vacancies in FBS at the time.

I was never a big fan of mo (too much salesman for my liking), but this guy I think will be solid.
Interested in learning how he shapes the roster
He sounds like a guy that knows how to do it
Lembo needs to bring in someone who can recruit as well as Mo could.

How telling is it when pretty much the entire fan base (as small as it seems to be these days anyway) is either happy that Mo is gone or basically in the mindset of "whatever"? It's incredible to me that someone who made $2mil+ here, with incredibly subpar results, is being hailed as a "great hire" by those online and by the fans of Alabama. What has he ever done? Prior to UB's <.400 record (including .333 versus FCS teams) he left the "co-DC" job before even coaching a game. What a racket this guy has made for himself.
He says things that student athletes want to hear, not necessarily the fans. That's why he's a good recruiter. He speaks in soundbites and hyperbole - stuff you can capture in a Tik Tok. I think he will do well recruiting for Alabama.
-
What about Joe Harasymiak out of Rutgers? Young, but has some head coaching experience in the northeast at Maine.
-
Not sure if I saw it anywhere on here but 247 is reporting:
Buffalo
In: Dave Patenaude, offensive coordinator (Virginia, analyst)
Edit: late to the party - just saw it was posted in the thread about Maurice Linguist.
-
I'm optimistic that we'll get another couple of MAC wins, but too bad there's not an NCAA draft - I'd be rooting for a tank-job.

Here is a ranking.
https://247sports.com/Season/2024-Football/CompositeTeamRankings/?Conference=MACLast year we were number 1. This year? Not so much…
On the 247 site, what is "Average" a reflection of? Whatever it is, UB is 3rd in that category, behind Toledo and Ohio.

From what I know, especially with that top girl, they are basically Instagram models at this point. I don't think any of their $$ are for their athletic ability TBH.
Might want to re-phrase this. They are D1 athletes in major conferences, so to say that none of the NIL is for their athletic ability is false. They wouldn't be in the position they're in now if not for their athletic ability.
