Agreed. I'm working under the assumption that Hodgson takes over and keeps the team and recruiting picture mostly intact. Not ready to consider the scorched earth scenario yet...

As I wrote in another thread. It's Oats part of what we loved about him... was well he scorched the earth for us. He gave people lop about how UB is better, deserves better, and should expect better. That worked great when UB was the ones to benefit. This may suck now. Oats is not on our team anymore.

  2. . A lot of the things we loved about Oats are working against us now. He was a take no prisoners type of guy super competitive, and ruthless. Great when on your side. He's not on our side anymore. This might suck. He has stated he would walk into living rooms and tell parents what other ranked teams are recruiting you son?

Now he can tell Hawkins you thought Buffalo was nice check out 'Bama. He could recruit some current Bulls players. But then again he might realize they are not cut for P5 and not do anything.

I’m pissed. Nate needs to address the fans and buffalo community. Already changed his twitter to Bama.

This needs to happen. It is looking like he's running away from something now. It is also looking like 'Bama was a done deal weeks ago.

Genuine question. What does UB need to do to be able to eventually be one of those big money schools? Like how do they actually become able to pay coaches 3+ million a year?

We can't. This is more of a NY SUNY system political issue then anything else. What would of done it was UB2020, but that turned into a complete dog and pony show once other schools complained that Buffalo would be better and students would want to go there.

For those that don't know. UB2020 was a grand master plan to transform UB by 2020 in to an elite top of the top school, not only just for the state, but the entire country. Plans were drawn up the whole 9 yards. But when money was being requested for grants and such. UBs multi billion master plan turned in to something like 54million split between 5 schools.

We also lost Simpson over it.

In his defense he NEVER lied.  He said he wants to build that and would only entertain major, can't ignore them offers.  I would argue that with the massive resources of a school like Alabama..that's a can't ignore offer.  I trust that he would have said no thanks to UNLV, Nebraska, etc.  But would YOU say no to going to share an athletic department with Nick Saban?

I just thought it would be a Kentucky, Duke, UNC, UCLA, Indiana, etc. I would put 'Bama one step below them.

I'm mostly just disappointed he didn't take a better job. As much as I hate UCLA, I think that would have been great for Oats, and great for our profile as a coach went from HS to UB to a top 15 job in the nation.

I think Oats proved more than Hurley, and I think he ended up in a worse situation...hopefully he got more money, but never seemed like he was in it for the money...

Gotta agree if he left for a true Blue Blood, I would have been much happier about this. If the ULNV story is true its more than 1.6 million.

We also have to look at the other side. What if the 'promise' of a dedicated basketball facility was all smoke and mirrors?

I think 1mill would be the extent of our abilities.  Especially if we are seeing another +400k spread throughout the rest of the staff.  Hate to say it but are students willing to start paying for tickets?  Could be necessary.

    SO:

    https://www.businessinsider.com/college-basketball-highest-paid-coaches-2018-3

    #25 starts at 2.6 million.

This list while incomplete puts him a #70 highest paid at 600k a year.

    http://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/salaries/mens-basketball/coach/

The list is very incomplete, however, it looks like $1 million a year will buy us a lot of in terms of competing with the P5 lower half.  I think a bump to 1 million with bonuses will be enough.

We also need to commit to a basketball facility. Something needs to be figures out both in the short term and long term. Maybe the feildhouse can be retrofitted for a basketball court as well?

Not sure that it's hate, but anyone matched up with CJ was going to lose at this point. He's our top player now, and has been great for 4 years, with  the potential of being an NBA draft pick this summer. Rasaun was great, but hard to beat CJ when comparing Mid-Con vs. MAC, the mid/late 90s teams vs today.

It was more of a joke.  The Dream got a bad match up. Final Four should be Jacon, CJ, Battle, Ibihi
