This was a big issue and one of my major complaints.

It was a complete mismanagement of the transition.  It also displayed a huge misunderstanding of the coaching labor market.

You only pay the elevated buyout if you need to move quickly to secure a coach that won't be on the market long.  But we couldn't do that.  And we couldn't do that because the job wasn't as appealing as the admin thought it would be.

Coaching hires are not the main obligation of an AD and are done by committee with only a minority of the decision making coming from the AD.  Though they tend to be given the credit and the blame for the hires since they are the ones that announce them and lead the department.

I still don't get why they just didn't keep JW on the "payroll" for those 4 weeks.

Jim Mora Jr. is 100% correct and I've been preaching that on this board for a few years now.

NIL from Jim Mora's point of view is millions.

The MAC there NIL deals would be thousands. Its insanity that UB dosen't have well funded NIL programs. The school doesn't need that much money at the mid-major basketball level and MAC football level to compete for Athletes.

Yes.  Whether it is deserved or not Miami called itself a "public Ivy".  Kent State is no where close to that level.  Academically Miami is either the second or third best academic school in the conference, with Ohio.  UB is a clear number one on the academic level.

If Miami is a public Ivy, then I'm a overweight near 40 year old "Josh Allen"....

Wayyyyyyyy too early for that.  Elite pash rusher yes, but HOF?  I'm not sure (yet).

Hard to say he has had a lot of injury and down years. But his first few years was playing at an all time level.

Khalil Mack’s Buffalo Bulls number should be retired by UB Bulls in my opinion. UB Horns Up! Go Bulls! Let’s Go Buffalo

We would have to retire numbers for that to happen.  We have a long list of players who numbers should be retired or at least discussed.  Starks, Means, Oliver, Wily to name a few with Starks and Means both winning super bowls. Mack isn't the only one.

Would imagine Reggie didn't like GH poaching Cage.

If Reggie is even half the great person we think he is. He would be proud of one of his former players, then coaches moving up in the world and advancing his career.

If Cage is half the person we hope he is, there were a few conversations with Reggie about this as well.

Some articles discussing two time transfer waivers

    https://www.on3.com/teams/kentucky-wildcats/news/ncaa-announces-new-waiver-guidelines-second-time-transfers/

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/theathletic.com/4450771/2023/04/26/college-basketball-transfers-ncaa-waiver/%3famp=1

I take away that a waiver would be unlikely due to very few available reasons for a waiver, but you can never tell with the NCAA.

The reason  below is viewed as most likely to be used

    • (1) for reasons related to the student-athlete’s physical or mental health and well-being.

Also known as make up some BS and get them on the floor/field?

SUNY has nothing to do with it. Collectives are private entities created by donors. The school/state has nothing to do with it.

It's SUNY. They have along repeated history of mucking things up when they start going well or a something involving one school shows some initiative. I would not be shocked if it ends up needing to be a SUNY wide collective or something.

Not to my knowledge - and this was the point of me sharing the above tweet. I guess I should have made that more obvious...

UB is a SUNY school. The red tape is probably going to require UB to invest massively into some grand plan of the future of how this collective will work. Let's call it the UB 2030 collective. Then after years of planning the state government is going to say its unfair to the other SUNYs. The collective is going to be highjacked and instead of UB creating an avenue to give student athletes money, each school gets $6.75 and a pack of bazooka joe.....

The Pegulas didn't charge for using Highmark but UB was on the hook for snow removal for that game, which hurt. I still think they need to play at least one game there a year.

The stadium is owned by the county and the state. I really don't think the Pegulas can charge anyone to use it.

If a school sets up a collective, how long before a lawsuit is brought to make sure that the money distributed is in compliance with Title IX?

Good question. But isn't the NIL money ultimately money from private sources and not really subject to Title IX?

Kevin wants more top 150 recruits, instead of diamonds.
    Duh.
There are still extra scholarships in this class, that we don’t know how many recruits are actually being pursued.

I agree 100%, if an option is available that could yield longer term success, you go with that option.  My view was not a matter of desperation, but a desire to balance the future with possible success in the upcoming season.   There may be some young long term success guys still available, but there are fewer of them, so I wouldn't totally rule out a one year rental.

We may need some transfers or holding back a scholarship or 2 to rebalance things a little as well.

The above is from TBN article from yesterday.  Maybe this is old news but clears up the salary splits. Here’s hoping GH3 has great success and UB somehow finds a way to keep him here, while some of these guys move up and get their shot at a HC job down the line somewhere if not Buffalo.

That Cage number seems low. How bad was his pay down the road? I doubt he took a pay cut to coach at UB.

Can't believe Jerrod Calhoun turned that down for $300k at Youngstown State and Hodgson preferred $385k in Arkansas /s

Jokes aside, this does point to Alnutt telling the truth. We probably got turned down by Cohen for whatever reason and then Halcovage was the second choice. Any other "candidates" "turning us down" were just trying to pump their own stock

From what the article says I am shocked UB did not structure Whitesell's termination to owe him only 400k and not 500k.

Their could of been some favors being done by bringing some people in. Pump their stock up the recruitment firms gets a higher commission, and in return helps us out. And I'm describing kickbacks at a public university.....

If the coaches who left aren’t saying why they left and niether is Coach B. The AD has not indicated there is a H.R. issue with the coaches leaving or with the coach B. The players that chose to decommitt are not providing explanations to their decision and neither is Coach B. What exactly do we want? Coach seems to have turned the page and  put together a solid team.   Won’t know until the fall for sure but the roster today looks good compared to others in conference.

I put on an extra tin foil hat for this one.

I have a guess what happened it involves Scott Johnson and Wyatt Foust doing some pretty nasty collusion to try and damage the program, along with influence and pressuring these kids to do what might not be in all of their best interests.

It's to inflammatory to come outright and say. I know lame by me.

I will just leave it at it includes recent events at the school and the state of divisive politics currently in the US.

100%, it's all about fit. My question is, these young ladies I would think watched UB games during the season and came to practices, visits, etc. Did they not think she was intense? It's more than that I would think since it is 4 months after the commitments and signings. Someone must have heard or said something about behind the scenes or whatever or the departure of the main recruiters caused it. Maybe it's the reason behind the coach's departures that was the trigger. High intensity coaching can't be the main thing, if it was, the players obviously didn't do their research.

I'm going with some outside influence. We had 5 decommit there is a 0% chance that happens without some else pulling strings or influencing people.

I wholeheartedly disagree with this. Every major institution holds their athletic alums in high regard and they roll out the red carpet in any way that they can to support them - including stuff like TBT. Just look at what Syracuse, Wichita State, and Dayton had for their teams in TBT last year. They pony up cash and their fans come out in droves. Meanwhile, we hold out because we want to earn a couple thousand bucks in profit for using the facility.

If that isn't the case and it's truly about Air Conditioning, can the school just come out and say that? Our PR has been a friggin' nightmare for the past month and a simple statement explaining the details would clear a lot of this mess up. Either way, it's still amateur hour with Alnutt in charge.

    This.

UB is all over TBT when Blue Collar U is winning. They just want to sit back and reap the benefits of the team's success without looking into a more active relationship. Hopefully Coach H continues to communicate the value of an alumni network of players and this changes.

I did say it's a hill I'm willing to die on.

I'll amended my stance a little. We need to get PR and our students in a good place first before we worry about TBT and Blue Collar U. I view TBT as step 99 in a 100 step process and we are on step 3.

UB has a lot of work to else where first.
