UB Intimidates Akron, and the Announcers Embarrass Themselves

Congrats to the UB Bulls football team on another well deserved victory.  The Bulls were in charge the entire game and simply imposed their will on an overmatched Akron team.  The running game and defense shined as we now have come to expect, but it was something else that caught my eye.  Both Akron’s offensive and defensive squads looked to be completely overwhelmed physically, and actually intimidated by UB’s players.  Akron freshman QB Zach Gibson looked like a deer caught in headlights in the first half, getting hit hard repeatedly by the UB defense.  I recall one hit in particular where Gibson looked over to the sideline with compete fear in his eyes, seemingly begging the Akron coaching staff to take him out of the game.  He got his wish in the third quarter when he removed himself with an arm injury after yet another hit took him to the ground.  I never saw a college player look so received to be on the sideline.  The Bull’s offensive line just mauled the Akron defense and the RB’s ran over them, breaking tackles at will.  It was complete domination.

As much fun as I had watching the game, listening to the awful announcers from CBS Sports Network was making my ears bleed.  Can we please have a new rule next year banning announcers from speaking out loud the ridiculous nicknames that players have bestowed upon themselves?  I thought it was bad enough listening to these morons tout the talents of “Boobie” Whitlow from Auburn the past few seasons.  But yesterday was the absolute worst.  These clown repeatedly called the runs of Akron RB Jeremiah Knight by referring to him by his nickname “Boogie”.  Get it? Boogie Knight, like from the movie Boogie Nights.  Very original Jeremiah. How about we just stick to their given names until/unless they make it to the NFL.  Stay classy CBSSN.

I taped the game and watched it later, which allowed for speeding through time between actual plays.  But what I heard of the color commentary was typical for this network.  I know college football wants commentary from guys who played the game, but there are SO MANY who played the game and this is the best they can do?

Back to the game...too little JP, but I understand why.  You have Marks for a reason and this is why and next week is more important.   Lance did it right.

Many years ago I remember watching UB play NIU one Saturday and we could not stop their running at all.  Their guys made holes and we could not stop it, even though we knew it was coming.   That’s what it looked like yesterday.

On to Friday and Ball State.

Go Bulls.
