  1. Wow 63 pages. This thread got very crazy, reading through it now, Jim certainly has his supporters.

Are we all ready to move on now. I saw the writing on the wall for this team and coach 3 years ago to this day. He didn't have Nate Oats to give him players. Even one of their better players this season, Hardnett, was a Hodgson/Oats player that the team was passed through after they left.

The right thing to do for the team is to restart with a young upstart coach like Hurley or Oats.

  2. PG - Jones (SO), Foster (SR*), Ceaser (FR)

SG - Powell (*JR), Blocker (SO), Jones (SO)

    Wing - Adams (*JR)

    F - Hardnett (*RS-SR), Williamson (R-FR)

F - Sy Chatman (*SR), Mading (SO), Jack (FR)

*-have a covid year they could use

    No way.

Whitesell took over a completely stacked roster on one of the best midmajors in the country. In his first 3 years he bombed and now in year 4 we're saying he "might make his seat hot" with a dismal 5 wins! That's bull$hit. The low expectations for next season are the result of his failure to build depth on the roster. He might not need to win the MAC next year but if this team doesn't show it can challenge for the title the following year there's no point keeping him around. I'd draw the line at 13 15 games. - edited from 13 to 15 because that would be .500 in a 30 game season.

.500 is a number he knows well

And everyone drools over their coach, but still gets bit by the portal. Unless the coach is headed somewhere and it hasn’t been announced. This is the first real “post Covid” year so everyone that thinks they are better than their current situation are casting lines.

Their coach is a high level recruiter. They just got the highest recruit in their history this year. It's not as big of a loss when you can fill in for losses. Losses aren't the problem.

Thanks for transcribing this from verbalcommits.com. Does anyone know if the offers to Tracey, Bradberry, Tice, and Lobor are current and active? A couple are almost two years old now. This goes back to the old gripes from some of us - little recruiting activity, no one actually covering the program with insights beyond a fan's.

We gladly give whatever info UB athletics is willing to share

    Yes.

I'm small potatoes. The funds that I made available for donation didn't move any needles. I'm aware of this.

AND I donated for 2 years, watched the school get a significant buy-out and then went hired a "safe" coach with a non-competitive salary, perhaps that contributed to the lack of Basketball Excellence? What should lead me to believe that additional dollars would be used differently this time?

Where is the buyout directly generated from a ranked basketball team that guy a coach hired by Alabama + 1mil. Went to the NSC I guess

Is this a serious list?  Some research might be a good idea.  You are a couple of years behind on where most of these people are.

Those were options throughout the process that I had done research on. Not this second, though I updated their current locations so that bonnies fans wont be confused. The university is not eating 600k buy out fee regardless of how much we would like a change.

Also congrats on your Patriots fan coach big timing your university for 1.8M with UMass.

I really don’t care who the next coach will be.  My intent was to break the great ubfan divide.  Just because someone doesn’t slam a player twenty times every game thread, doesn’t mean they don’t want a better coach… as long as that coach is within budget.

There are plenty of coaching options within budget. This wasn't a Whitesell or NAIA discussion. Heck, they hired a firm for no reason that they paid. There are plenty of coaches out there who will take 400k to head coach in a solid mid-major conference.

There is no risk with the unknown, especially now. The risk is if you are worried about trading in Blocker for a reshuffle. I think it's worth it.

    1. Jared Grasso (head coach Bryant),
    2. Shaheen (~250k now)
    3. Steve Lavin (makes nothing as FOX analyst now)
    4. Desmond Oliver (ETSU)
    5. Dwayne Killings (Albany)
    6. ND's Antoni Wyche (up and coming)
    7. Tobin Anderson (head coach St. Thomas Aquinas)
    8. Gerry McNamara (up and coming)

It’s your money so obviously your call. But it’s part of the problem. The first speed bump and people bail. It’s why we can’t have nice things.

How do we know where the money goes though? To Jeseph's point, what is the point of donating when we aren't sure where/why it's being used and funneled elsewhere.

I'm sorry, but there is zero chance that Alnutt was caught off guard by Oats leaving or was unprepared without a list of potential candidates. Nothing in the way it all transpired would indicate that was the case. Plenty of potential names leaked, plenty of speculation occurred that "half our players could leave," and we went with an in house candidate after a process that took what, two weeks? Not sure where this legend bubbled up from.

I can't say for sure, but it certainly seemed as if he caught off guard. We can put up a number on this and it's certainly not 0. We talked to him in person after the extension and he thought he got enough done for him to stay.

I'll let @Kevin or @DooleyBull06 or somebody else post an assumptive depth chart, I'm too lazy.

My question: Who leads this team?

IMO that question was not answered any of the past 3 seasons. We know we'll field a complete roster, with varying opinions on the talent level. Who leads the team on the floor and in the locker room?

    Got you covered:

PG - Jones (SO), Ceaser (FR)

SG - Powell (JR), Blocker (SO)

    Wing - None

    F - Hardnett (SR), Williamson (R-FR)

    F - Mading (SO)
