Even as of right now, if the season ended today, this is an at-large team.  That isn't even a debate.  Problem is, as Derek said, this is still a long season and they've been starting to trend in the wrong direction.  Good thing is the errors that are costing them are absolutely fixable.  Except Jordan's free throws which are a lost cause.

I think this loss takes UB to an 8 seed. For every additional loss, expect another bump down. When you get to an 11, you’re on the bubble. Could the Bulls run the table from here? Sure, but I would bet they won’t. But as someone else has pointed out, there’s still a lot of basketball to be played. But wow...that second half was brutal.

I really hope we don't have a home game advantage essentially taken away by weather. Our schedule already sucked for student participation 😞

Can’t the students get a shuttle from the dorm to the game and then back? Probably not. Oh well, I’m watching the talking heads on TV. They’re giving all the worst case scenarios: Life threatening, blizzard conditions...wait until Thursday or Friday...

Still debating whether to head out there tonight.

If the clock stops at the foul, then Jordan got the shot off.  How can you put time on the clock but say no basket because time ran out but there this much time left.... Something was missed here.  No way that was the right call.  Kinda funny that Oats was trying to get the guys to run off the floor ASAP.  He was too busy trying to steal a basket then make the argument he should of been making.

I agree with you, Millennium: If the clock stops at the foul, then Jordan did get the shot off.

    When does the clock run?

The clock runs whenever the ball is in play. The clock is stopped whenever the ball goes out of bounds, a foul is called, free throws are being shot, and during time outs. When the ball is inbound, the clock starts once a player touches the ball.

I just checked the play by play of th game. There was 0.1 second put back on the clock. The basket should have counted. You can’t say that the foul stopped the clock (which the rule clearly states) and also maintain that the shot didn’t get off in time.

  4. If 0.2 seconds were put back on the clock, then the replay must have shown that the whistle (foul) happened then. So the clock stops at the moment of the whistle.

I had thought that there was no time left in the half after Jordan missed both foul shots. Stopping the clock at the moment of the foul makes more sense.

The problem is that the ball was released in time because they put 0.2 seconds back on the clock.  He was fouled in the air, so he was taking the shot.  It should have been a good basket and one shot.  However, if they say he was fouled before the shot it should have been 1 and 1 since it was on the  9th foul of  the half for Kent State, the double bonus goes into effect with the 10th foul of the half.

He was fouled in the act of shooting while there was still time remaining. Therefore it was a two shot foul (not a 1 and 1), as all fouls in the act of shooting are called. Time in the half had expired before the ball left his hands, so the basket did not count. The basket never counts, if the ball hasn’t left the shooter’s hand(s) when time expires. The only question is does the clock stop at the point of the foul or at the point of the shot: The refs clearly judged that the clock stopped after the foul - and Oats said it was a proper call. Are the refs and Oats both wrong? I don’t know.

Jordan is so good at so much...except...you know...the whole point of basketball.  He's such a bad shooter.  It's so sad because he's really next level at everything else.

Jordan’s effective FG% is 56.2% this season. He’s hitting at 33.3% from three, and 59.4% from two. Those numbers would be considered good by most. He is a very poor from the foul line, however, which is unfortunate.

I'm not going to say the games were perfect, missed FT, some poor rebounding at times, less than stellar games from Graves and Harris, but it's a 40 minute game and the guys did more than Kent to get it done. Kent was channeling Markus Howard early in the game, but beyond that, UB  won by 20 or so over the final 33-34 minutes. Winning at Kent State on the road is not a guarantee, for anyone, regardless of whether or not we have a # in front of the team name on the scoreboard. Walker had some sick shots off the dribble that no one was stopping. I just find it degrading to question their effort, because I think that it was pretty strong throughout. Dontay and Davonte were running their behinds off on Walker and whoever their 2nd option was at all times when they were out there. CJ had some beautiful D at times getting hands on the ball. Just because they blow by a guy who gets caught flat footed or is having an off night doesn't make me think that the team as a whole isn't focused or playing without effort.

Walker scored 15 first half points - some were simply step back jumpers that can not be defended. He scored 6 points in the second half. He’s a stud, but the Bulls collectively found a way to limit the damage. Missing a foul shot is never a question of effort, unless it can be demonstrated that the player in question refuses to practice or take guidance from the coaching staff.

The effort was there tonight. Segu and Williams made meaningful contributions. Still work to do: Rebounding, TOs, ...

Harris always strikes me as a lazy player that relies on his smooth shot, except his smooth shot has been off more than on this year in most games.  Apparently he often wins the hard hat so he IS doing hustle stuff, so maybe he's just one of those guys whose body language looks like crap but he's actually going hard?

I guess so. I like the kid, but that pass stunk. Hopefully his shot starts falling soon...like in about 15 minutes.

  9. Watching the halftime junk. Oats yelling during practice, “That’s a problem! We are a step slow!” Exhibit A (I hate to say it) is Jeremy Harris. Relaxed isn’t getting it done, so how about stepping it up a bit cause you’ve got nothing to lose. That Harris nonchalant pass that Walker stole and scored on is inexcusable for a senior.
