  1. I can’t remember who Bona played in the NCAAs last year, but the Bonnies got smoked. They couldn’t buy a bucket. Their forte was defense of course. This year they were considered money in the bank. But they still had the same weaknesses: inconsistent offense, short bench, and over-rated. Virginia Tech blew them out of the gym. Northern Iowa schooled them in Olean. Expectations were way too high. A good team, but really not a great team. They’d be crazy to fire Schmidt. He took them from scandal ridden laughing stock back to respectability. UB surely will balk at having to pay Whitesell to take a hike, and then pay his replacement the going rate for a MAC coach. Schmidt’s contract is up at the conclusion of this season. Who’s out there? Tom Crean, Reggie or Sean Miller? Bruce Weber? I can’t see it.

No way on Nit. Cit and Cbi are stupid. Also, Nate just lost round 1, lost to a 1-17 georgia team (their only league win), lost 3 straight, he must suck!

Alabama lost to Vanderbilt, not Georgia. Alabama never played Georgia this season.

    1-6 against the top 4.

It mattered. Sorry I'm a troll that showed up in 2019 during the message board review.

    Fire the head basketball coach.

Erie, it’s not necessarily the message. It’s the ubiquitous nature of your message. I get it: Whitesell has to go. I get it: the players take bad shots, make dumb turnovers and fouls. No matter how relentless you are in repeating it, you aren’t going to change anyone’s opinion.

  4. I root for my alma mater, Canisius. When I matriculated there, St Bonaventure was so good, I cheered for them, and still do. I hate Niagara, but could be for them, if they made it to the Dance. I’ll be cheering for Michigan because my daughter works there. Other teams I could support: Gonzaga, St Mary’s, Wyoming, any Ivy, just about any underdog. And any MAC or MAAC team - I’d be for any team that could make a run. Hopefully the Bulls!

I have no confidence in the mental state of this team. We got into a straight up brawl with a local high school team, had one of our players arrested and thrown out of the program, then proceeded to lose to that high school team downtown.

    Choke much?

  6. Many have said that the Bulls didn’t bring defensive intensity tonight. The opponent scored 92 points. I said the Bulls’ defense wasn’t to blame. stand corrected. However, this game could have been played 100 times, and the Rockets would have won at least 99 times. Toledo is a better team. Guys were making mid-range fade-away jumpers, 3 pointers with a hand in the face, and give and go plays. Once again - Toledo is a better team because their players are better athletically than the Bulls.

This has been hard to watch. I'd argue the offense has been as bad as the defense.

I disagree with calling the defense bad. Toledo has guys making fade-away jumpers. They are indefensible. Toledo is making them. It doesn’t mean the defense is bad.

Anyone who says we have the "most talent in the MAC" is out of their mind.

I’m watching this. The Bulls have some really good players. Really really good. But Toledo has got some kids that are just flat out better.

As I posted in another thread, there appears to still be a scenario in which Buffalo can win the MAC and get the top seed.

    UB would need to:

    -Win out against Toledo/Kent State

-Have Ohio lose one of final two games

-Have Kent State win on Tuesday against NIU

That would set up a situation in which UB is tied with Toledo. In that scenario, they would split the head-to-head. Next tiebreaker would be record against next highest ranked opponent. That’s where Kent State comes in. If Kent State is 3rd, UB would win that tiebreaker. If Ohio is 3rd, Toledo would win the tiebreaker.

If wrong, please correct me but that’s what some of us concluded after looking into scenarios earlier. It’s unlikely but possible.

This is possible. I think UB will win its 2 games, Kent St will beat NI, but I don’t see Ohio losing either game.

  10. Another look at the MAC’s decision to go to a 20 game schedule: If it had retained an 18 game schedule, it probably would have been easier to reschedule and play all the games, instead of resorting to its debatable course of using losses as the sole arbiter of place.

  11. Assuming the Bulls clinch the third seed, it would appear that their first round opponent in Cleveland will be Ball St. If favored teams win, it would mean Ohio most likely on Friday. Assuming the Bulls win, it could be Buffalo/Toledo for the right to the NCAAs. If the Bulls should falter in the championship, they would probably get an invitation to the NIT, but let’s hope they get to the “Dance” and win a couple.
