  1. Good hard fought game so far. Gotta make FTs. Defense is excellent so far.
  2. I’m not sure I would call it a rivalry in the truest sense of the word. But a few more wins by UB I think would go a long way to make it so. Let’s see how today goes.
  3. Were playing the griffs on 12/28 I believe. The purple eagles did not want to play us. Not sure why. But it does seem a dumb move by them.
  4. Unlike bonaking here’s some more arrogance and uppitiness from Bona fans just in case you were not already fired up enough for toda’s game. http://bonabandwagon.proboards.com/thread/16336/ub-st-bonaventure-rivals As they say, when you walk the walk, you can talk the talk even if it’s shabby form. Let’s get a W so we can stifle a bit of their chest thumping. And more importantly to continue this great start to the season.
  5. Check it out! http://www.oleantimesherald.com/sports/butler-southern-tier-native-hodgson-making-big-impact-at-buffalo/article_50fdc6d4-fa68-11e8-8ac5-030bb2fc24dd.html i didn’t know Bryan was adopted. He’s done a helluva job. UB is lucky to have such a great stable of coaches.
  6. Thanks for the info. Great post! Enjoy the atmosphere tomorrow. Just hope you’re wrong about the score. Having Bona and UB as teams excelling can only do wonders for college basketball in WNY.
  7. No surprise. He is a Jamestown guy. If truth be told I was a huge Bona fan back then too. Bob Lanier, Bully Kalbaugh, Matt Gantt were all favs of mine.
  8. Schmidt has been a godsend for Bona. He brought them out of the depths or corruption, restored the pride in Bona basketball, has developed great big men and has made Bona a good team year in and year out.
  9. The little 3 hit its apex with Niagara and Bona in the big dance back in 1971. The little 3 was huge back in the 50s and 60s. The Aud would have double headers and bring in top teams from around the country many of whom would move onto NYC to play in the Garden. I remember watching games on tv after I got interested in basketball as a punk kid. I remember being inspired by what I saw. I'd shovel the driveway, go out shoot hoops at halftime, get a replacement ball from the heating vent wen the first lost its bounce due to the cold air and then go back inside to watch the second half of course only to return outside after the game. Niagara has been to the tourney once I think since 71 and Bona several times, once around 1978, once in the 80s with Tim Winn where they gave Kentucky a scare, maybe once in the 90s and again last year. Canisius has gone once since the 60s with John Beilein quite a while ago.
  10. Let's give him further reason to keep liking this team with some big wins in the next slate of games with tough opponents. Go Bulls!
  11. Regardless of what is written on message boards or in the Olean Times Herald, Schmidt and his players are not fools. They will prepare and play hard realizing they have a tough opponent and a chance to advance the trajectory of their season. Oats is just as savvy. Leave the BS to the fans, writers and any players stupid enough to look down at an opponent. As Marv Levy would say, let your actions speak so loudly they cannot hear you speak.
  12. Every school has moronic fans. But this dude needs to get back on his meds.
  13. I’ve been to the RC several times. The best thing about the RC is that it brings you back in time when college hoops was played in field houses and not huge arenas. It has an old time charm to it. The fans are into it. The students are rabid. Some are way out of line, frothing at the mouth types. But it is a difficult place to play and is a great advantage to Bona. Nothing special about their concessions. I’ve never felt unsafe there. But every time I’ve gone it has been through courtesy tickets I’ve gotten through coaches from visiting teams so I’ve been behind the team bench and not among the Bona faithful. It is a great place to watch a game. Have fun. And most importantly bring home a win. Go Bulls!
  14. Some of it is just being a Bona fanatic. We have some similar fanatics here too. Of course there is a lot of pure haughtiness, which I always detest. My motto has always been conduct yourself with class, fight like hell to win, always give 100% no matter the circumstance and win with humility and if you lose do so with dignity and grace.
  15. I have the same hope. But I think it’ll be close. Stockard is a helluva player. It’ll be a great test. Which is what we want because every game is prep for conference play and hopefully the Big Dance.
  16. And more. BuffaloBonnie is just like Bonaballa who on page 2 of link absolutely guarantees a Bona win. You can see the smugness of many Bona fans. Many have zero respect for UB while some do. Some believe Stockard will be the best player on the floor. Some think little of Perkins. I found one post laughable where one dude said it is widely known the UB is the second dirtiest program next to Rick Stansbury. What a fool. Nate Oats is among the most honorable coaches in all of college hoops. Plus wasn’t it Bona admitting a player with a welding certificate. Mostly you can see a whole lot more intensity in their fan base as they’ve been posting about the game since mid November. Good reading. Enjoy. http://bonabandwagon.proboards.com/thread/16306/12-8?page=1
  17. Here’s some interesting Bona fan chatter. http://bonabandwagon.proboards.com/thread/16325/latest-polls
  18. BuffBona is playing games. Good to see fans from other teams post on this board when they have useful insights, but BB hasn’t ever done so as far as I recall.
  19. Williams is still a long way away from being a positive contributor. It seems every time he’s on the court he proves to be a defensive liability and mistake prone offensively. With his ranking would have thought he’d be further along. Still a lot of time to figure it it as he’s only 8 games into his college career. Segu on the other hand is ready skill and IQ wise. He just needs to get stronger and bring a little more in the defensive end. Bertram is still a work in progress. I suspect by his senior year he’ll be an important contributor. Hopefully the timeline accelerates.
  20. Well said Derek. Bona is playing much better now than they were just a few games ago. SIU is now playing like the team predicted to be tops in their conference. Cuse and Marquette well enough said.
  21. It would be fool hardy to take any team lightly as the first half of the lemoyne game showed. Bona is a much better team with Stockard. Combine that with the reilly center, the natural desire to take it to a highly regarded opponent and an improved Bona team the game has danger written all over it. Having played the game I know how important the mental part of the game is. I do believe our guys will be ready to go. Will have to play with top level defensive intensity, limit turnovers and rebound. If we do we should be good.
  22. I read somewhere tonight that Bona fans were chanting “WE WANT UB!!” in the second half of their demolition of Siena tonight. The boys better be ready to play.
  23. Not sure of the attendance but I’d guess 5k or better. There was a traffic jam outside the arena 10 minutes before the game.
  24. A lot of speculation here it seems. Does anyone have info about what his condition is. If it isn’t 100% or nearly so have him sit or play him sparingly if only to get his legs under him after long trip. If he’s anywhere near 100% then he should play as much as he would normally in such a game.
  25. A lot of good stuff here. Enjoy! https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/turner-podcast-network/march-madness-365-with-andy-katz
