If your style of play is killed by the refs evenly calling a tight game...then you don't have a sustainable or good style of play.  Sure, UB likes to play faster, but the talent on this team is more than enough to overcome that.  They solidly beat Syracuse who slowed things down with the zone.  They can, and should win games like that, especially in the MAC and especially against NIU.  The UB Bulls shit the bed in this game.  There was no ball movement on offense and everyone was chucking up terrible shots and praying.  They had no hustle or focus on defense, and they turned the ball over like a Reggie coached team.  This loss is 100% on the players in blue and no one else.

If you don’t think the refs had any influence in that game then you are naive and/or just haven't played basketball to fully understand. For example, that 5 minute call on the inbound. When was the last time you saw a ref call that? And at that time of the game? Comon. That was bs. We do have a good team when we play the other team even if they throw a zone at us but when we play against the other team PLUS the refs dectating the tempo, we get no rythym and no chance to build momentum.

  2. I know we didn’t shoot well but the refs controlled the tempo of this game by calling all those fouls. I’m not saying they weren’t evenly distributed fouls for both teams but these whistle happy refs kill our style of play and allows NIU to get a shot at the upset. We need to get out of the MAC.

  3. Huge week. Need to take it game by game. Stay focused. Defense needs to stay at a high level and that will lead to offense. Hope they are locked in and ready to go. Only thing that worries me is if the refs somehow decide they want to keep it close and make too many calls. Go Bulls.

  4. Anyone got a transcript of that article about Oats in the Athletic? Not sure how I feel about the writer talking about big time programs wanting him as their next coach. I thought that was a bit classless. Who says we don’t keep him or he wants to stay? A ignorant dig at Buffalo and totally uncalled for in my opinion.

  5. This is like foreshadowing for our basketball team. Not to sound pessimistic but more realistic that it could happen and people start leaving. Unless we get out of this conference and actually play at a higher level, our players and coaches will never be satisfied. I only blame the administration if this program goes back to mediocrity in a few years.

It’s not just that. His accuracy just drifts away for long stretches. That fade pass to AJ on 3rd down late in the game (where AJ hurt his elbow) , was an example of a complete garbage pass that had no chance to be caught inbounds.

You’re right. Accuracy is definitely an issue. Many throws that he’s completed were jump balls. He needs to improve accuracy the most and hit players in stride. Also, He has decent running skills but that wont save him at the next level. Hope he stays and works on getting better.

  7. Honestly, I rather us lose a few games in conference just so the team can stay hungry going into the tournament. If they are undefeated and lose say in the second round, that would be horrible and people will forget about their great regular season. I rather us lose in the regular season and then make it to say the final four. Thats more memorable.

    Nassau Coliseum is more feasible.

A few of the games that have been played there since the renovation are: Villanova vs Hofstra and Maryland vs Stony Brook.

I hear that about Nassau but I rather play power 5 programs than Hofstra and Stony Brook. If people see us playing them they’ll think we are on their level. We should aim higher and play syracuse or uconn every year.

And more. BuffaloBonnie is just like Bonaballa who on page 2 of link absolutely guarantees a Bona win. You can see the smugness of many Bona fans. Many have zero respect for UB while some do. Some believe Stockard will be the best player on the floor. Some think little of Perkins. I found one post laughable where one dude said it is widely known the UB is the second dirtiest program next to Rick Stansbury. What a fool. Nate Oats is among the most honorable coaches in all of college hoops. Plus wasn’t it Bona admitting a player with a welding certificate. Mostly you can see a whole lot more intensity in their fan base as they’ve been posting about the game since mid November. Good reading. Enjoy. http://bonabandwagon.proboards.com/thread/16306/12-8?page=1

Yeah I saw that too about us being a dirty program and laughed. Such bs. They need to make something up to make themselves feel better that we are able to recruit better players. Hope we run them out of their gym.
