  1. Since we are talking about coaches on the hot seat, what about former coach Witherspoon now at Canisius. This guy hasn’t done anything and somehow year after year has a job. I thought he was average at best at UB and he continues to underachieve but no mention of hot seat for him. I guess our expectations at UB have risen and we demand more since we’ve won recently. Canisius on the other hand is stuck in mediocrity.

  2. It’s all about the future and with Hurley and Oats at least we new what the future rosters would bring. This is the first time where we have no idea who will lead next year which should be a sign if we have the right coach. Also, the one big difference between Whitesell and Hurley/Oats is both Hurley/Oats had the potential to leave to bigger jobs, I’d don’t think Whitesell is that type of coach. He’s probably content with staying until retirement.

Hi guys.  Glad to see the program you don't care about has three threads on your board.  I guess the Point Park and St. John Fisher games aren't moving the needle?  I expect a good game on Saturday.  This series is good for both schools.  If you guys would ever ditch football I think you would be a good addition to the Atlantic 10.  From an outsider perspective I think that would be a good move for you, but that is for you to decide.  See some of you maybe on Saturday

Didn’t you lose at home to Northern Iowa Community Tech College? Also, A10 is for private schools. UB is a public state school which can afford Football and other sports at the same time. Also, bummer you dropped out of the top 25 after waiting 50 years to be ranked but it’s a long season. All the best to you and the folks in little Olean.

I just don’t understand the obsession to hire a guy who hasn’t done any actual coaching. Jim has recruited well and our team has improved each year. BH can recruit better but can’t coach a lick. Think about it. In all of his years with Nate, he hasn’t even run a practice. If you can’t win, recruiting will then suffer as well.

You don’t understand the idea of hiring a guy who hasn’t done any coaching? I assume your talking about head coaching right? By that logic, our football coach shouldn’t have been hired…but people were talking about how great of a recruiter he was. Wonder why he got the job and Bryan didn’t.

  5. What is the status of Hardnett anyway?

Also, this game reminded me of the West Virginia game where we ended up pulling the upset. We chipped away at the lead. This time though we stopped feeding the best player who was Williams. He was having a CJ Massinburg game. But poor shot selection and the officiating was suspect at times with all these double techs killing our momentum and flow of the game. We’ll be good the rest of the way but I thought this one was winnable honestly.

Vantrease is a Tyrod Taylor type of QB - smart, protects the ball, but isn't going to do anything flashy or carry the team to victories on his own. Perhaps Matt Myers will add an element that would help us move the ball but I put very little blame on Vantrease for our current offensive woes. The problem is our run game.

I'm no expert but wasn't the success of our run game last year based on a lot of zone blocking and stretch plays? Everyone was in motion on every snap, yet now we seem to be playing a more basic handoff up the middle type of game and our linemen are struggling to open gaps, let alone reach the second level. Why not switch up the playcalling to something this team is a bit more familiar with? This feels a bit like Jeff Quinn's first year as a HC where he committed to his strategy without considering the personnel he inherited. I'm not sure what the answer is but it feels to me that it's more important that we fix our run game to open things up for our strong-armed QB instead of switching to our running QB to supplement our lack of a rushing attack.

And we lost our 2 best starting linemen to transfer Gall to Baylor and Novitsky to Kansas. That didn’t help.

  7. Back to the stadium discussion, hear me out on this one… why not follow the Bills path and build new but instead knock down current UB stadium and build new on the same exact site. While the new stadium is being built, play at the new Bills stadium and test it out to see if you can play 1 or 2 big games a year there with Notre Dame or Michigan. Forget lowering the track, go big and build new to get it right. The rest of UB stadium sucks anyway. Just rebuild on site and aim for 30,000k seats.
