Is anyone else surprised/disappointed in Williams? He looks mostly lost and last night (for the minute or so he played) super unathletic. I know he's a freshman but I thought he might contribute a little more even this year.

Not remotely surprised. He has a very high ceiling and has potential. For many players, it just takes time to adjust. Don't be shocked if him and Segu come alive during conference play and provide a huge spark off the bench. Same goes for Jeremy Harris. Last year, Harris struggled on offense outside of conference play, and once conference play began, he found his stride and was lights out, which carried over into the tournament. Don't be surprised with Harris coming alive during conference play again.

We start the season with EMU (zone) and Toledo (good record against a weak OOC schedule)

EMU does play zone but they're 2-5 against D-1 schools and have regressed greatly since last year. And you're right about Toledo, I don't think they have really been tested at all this year and have played a competent defense. Both of these should be wins.

Then again it's the MAC... there are always going to be tough games on the road.

A team in the MAC I am worried about is Ball State. Competed well against Purdue and Virginia Tech, but, have also beaten weaker mid major schools. Nonetheless, they have a talent group this year. That should be a real good game.

  3. Quite possibly one of the better team rebounding performances I've ever seen, considering the team we faced and inside the carrier dome. Out-rebounding Cuse 48-35, 18 offensive rebounds. Just insane. It doesn't matter if Cuse is struggling or not, that place is hard to play and we outplayed them extremely in the second half. CJ Buckets proving to the world yet again that he shows up in big games.

I couldn't be anymore proud of this team, and what they are accomplishing thus far.

    ONTO MARQUETTE! #HornsUp

  4. I just wanted to shed some light on a recruit that hasn't been talked about as much, Tajzmel Sherman, who is from Missouri City, TX, who currently is a 6'4" 185 pound JUCO Sophomore playing for Colin County CC in McKinney, Texas.

I had just browsed his stat line from this season, and so far, it is insane. image.thumb.png.f9cfc179667bb825377296d8a55f4f91.png

He currently has other offers from teams like Cincinnati, SMU, FIU, and East Carolina.

If we are seeking a player who has the potential to take over the role of CJ Massinburg, this could be one who does so for the next 2 years.

I don't want to see our players go into this cocky or arrogant but I do want them to be confident. I think they should take the floor knowing that, right now, UB is the better team - and we should play that way.

I think it's safe to say at this point, that's not how the team is. I think they know they have to work for the next 2 games. Which is why I'm confident they will find a way to win tomorrow.

No surprise in not moving up. Really going to be interested next week depending on how this plays out.

2-0: would probably put us Top 10

1-1 beating Marquette: would keep us around 14

1-1 beating Cuse: would probably drop us a 5-10 spots

0-2: would knock us out of the Top 25

(These are all my gut feelings with little to no research behind them)

    This sounds about right.

Agree. Several players have played better and more consistent making up for the loss of Clark namely Graves, Caruthers Jordan and Segu. As long as Harris does the other things like playing defense and rebounding even if he struggles from the field we should be okay. Hope Harris finds his touch before MAC play begins. Go Bulls!!!!

Even with Jeremy struggling shooting the ball, he contributes in so many other ways like defense, rebounding, assists, moving the ball on offense.

Even with his offensive struggles, we are fine.

I don't get why people are saying the team isn't finding their stride on offense when the stats say otherwise.

What I’m beginning to get relatively concerned about is our shooting.  We simply haven’t shot well consistently all year. Sure we’ve had our moments and some great games, but we simply may not be as good of a shooting team as we think. I don’t think that’s the case but going 7-30 from three is cause for concern as thats not abnormal for us this year.

Why are you concerned that the team is shooting 47% as a whole? And still shooting 33% from 3.

We're shooting way better 10 games in this year than we were last year. And right now, we're way better defensively. The only person right now who's been struggling shooting the ball is Jeremy Harris. But, the rest of the team up to this point has been pretty good.

This kinda brings up a point I’ve thought about for a while. UB hasn’t had much sustained success ever. We had the football seasons of 2008 and then the Mack season but not until recently has more consistent basketball success. I’m thinking/hoping that people who went to the school more recently and go on in life to be more successful will have the means to donate back to the athletic program.

Exactly, and that applies with any major college sport, football or basketball. In basketball we've had 4-5 years of success but it's not long enough to have a well-established fan base in the area to care enough, especially in the area that we live in.

In the last 10 years in football, we've now had like, 3 good years? Which is not good, especially in the MAC. Certainly isn't close to being good enough to build and sustain a fan base in the school and the community.

I've been saying it for a while, for something like basketball to succeed in WNY, they have to keep winning, and they have to win a lot. Like what they're doing right now. Sooner or later, with the success basketball is having. People are slowly going to come around. It's just, WNY is an area with no college tradition or culture, and for good reason.

"Armon will play when he runs out on the floor," Hinson said after the game. "You don't need to ask me anymore. It is a process that he and I are gonna go through, and when he plays, when he runs out there, you'll know it."

Hinson declined to say what the process was, or if the two were progressing toward resolving whatever is wedging between them. Fletcher did not respond to a text message from The Southern Illinoisan on Tuesday.

"It's a process, and that's it," Hinson said. "There don't need to be any more questions about it. That's where we are. I understand (the media) have a job, but I have a job. My job right now is to get nine guys ready to play."

I get it, it's for Fletcher's sake, to give him privacy whatever the issue is. And it's Hinson's job to focus on getting his team ready for a game.

Just reading the entire thread on Fletcher, their fans don't believe he is going to be playing. But, who knows.

I was watching this game.  Houston is a good team that will be dangerous come March.  Now on to their arena...I believe the graphic said it cost 60 million to renovate and they got 20 million in one donation from Tilman Fertitta (who owns the Rockets).  It seats about 7,000 and has all the bells and whistles.  No doubt its gorgeous but lets keep in mind, they got 20 million in one donation.  One third the total cost to renovate.  Heck I wish we could just get 10 million bucks in donations for a new practice facility.  If we had boosters with deep pockets we'd be just like everyone else.  For now we have a really good team and we must fill AA 6k strong every home game.  Maybe one day we can renovate Alumni.  Or perhaps play some games at KeyBank.  We can all dream, unless someone comes in with a massive donation like Fertitta did for Houston.

Maybe the Pegulas should consider making a generous investment. 😄

Scouts are in attendance. The buzz is he could be a lottery pick.  Would love to see him match up against our pitbulls.

He should be a lotto pick at some point, the guy can really do it all. Score and pass. Not only is he really good on offense but he is a dog on defense, really solid defender and rebounder.
