  1. For those concerned about free throw shooting in the past few years you’ll love McCollum’s teams full of shooters. Where his team from last year would have ranked in D1: FT%: 77.6% 18th/363 3P%: 39.5% 3rd/363
  2. Charleston was the country’s hot mid-major this year and they started two D2 transfers, an NAIA transfer and had another D2 transfer play heavy minutes off the bench. Pat Kelsey did the same thing at his previous stop at Winthrop. I’m not suggesting he go that route, but not relying on landing a team full of 4 stars to win seems more sustainable as a mid-major program. It’s certainly something to consider but I don’t have much doubt McCollum can identify undervalued talent and I’d be excited to see what he could do recruiting to a D1 school. I think I’d be pretty pumped if we bring him in
  3. Xander Rice was definitely from before Whitesell got fired and he has since committed to Monmouth. I’m guessing Snoddy was also pre-firing although that’s less clear because the first mention I saw was after the firing
  4. Literally on this page there’s an article about a coach turning down a head coaching job. Even during a period where there’s reason for optimism this board reeks of pessimism lol
  5. I wanna preface with the fact that Mike Anderson would be at best my third choice among who we’ve been connected to. His press hasn’t been solved, his offenses were the issue at St. John’s. Almost all successful mid-majors need a niche to recruit to and excel at, his press is not an issue, (think SFA, VCU, etc.) He’s recruiting fine, he just pulled in the 38th ranked class and there are a ton of P5 retreads killing recruiting at the mid-major level. He’d instantly be the most accomplished coach in UB history (prior to coming to UB) and the only one able to say they’ve produced NBA players. I won’t argue that he’s the best option because I agree I’d like an up and comer, but call UB and say NO is wacko shit
  6. Fair enough, wouldn't want a retread, but anyway here's a guy who got fired for not winning enough in one of the worst conferences in the country. We can look the other way though because he had a good season in "The Basketball League". Is this Will Brown's account?
  7. I looked at your post history and literally none of it is Xs and Os. You also suggested Will Brown. Thank god you're not running the search
  8. If we had 3 offers out there would be some sort of news about it lol. We're using a search firm which is dragging it out
  9. I don't know the quality of sources but this is the first mention I've seen of Michigan assistant Saddi Washington Also mentioned the other usual suspects (Hodgson, Cohen, Hartman)
  10. I think the answer is yes, I'm just surprised to see any level of recruiting going on without knowing what direction the new coach will take the team. I suppose reaching out doesn't hurt though
  11. Not sure if our interest was pre-Whitesell firing or not, but:
  12. I don't think so. I didn't thoroughly research this so maybe I missed a hire, but Kansas won the title last year and didn't lose any assistant coaches. Prior to that Baylor won and lost Jerome Tang to Kansas State, but he had been at Baylor since Drew took over that shitshow in 2003 and turned them around. Prior to that Virginia won and didn't lose any assistant coaches. The opportunity to make the jump from assistant to head coach doesn't come around that often, it usually requires a drop in level, maybe requires a paycut. I'd frankly be surprised if Hodgson is truly interested in making the jump to head coaching and we offer him the job and he says no.
  13. It's definitely intentionally left vague. On these lists I almost always assume the best schools on the list are not actually offering. Recruiting in general is casting a wide net to say you were one of the first school's recruiting them when it comes time to make an offer. I'm sure with the transfer portal it's a lot of questions about why they're transferring and what they're looking for at their next school. I still have hope for Mading, granted probably at a lower level. He was the 240th ranked recruit nationally in his class, low to mid-majors don't usually have a shot at recruits of that pedigree even if it's on their second go around. I'm sure he will end up D1 if for no reason other than his recruiting pedigree. He's got potential and he can probably see the court more to develop that potential elsewhere
  14. We're like 1/7th of the way to the total amount of transfers that will probably hit the portal and only a handful of them have verbally committed anywhere (for whatever that's even worth). Then there's also JUCO, D2, and HS players to consider. We only need to fill 5 scholarships so far, and up to 13 if everyone were to leave. Depending where our coach comes from some of our scholarships might be filled with transfers from the coach's previous stop. Patience.
  15. Looks like he was making the same salary as Hodgson at Alabama. I see Georgia Southern's previous coach Brian Burg was making $230k FWIW. Seems likely Henry will be taking a paycut and would be within UB's salary range if that portends anything for the possibility of Hodgson.
  16. I don’t care anymore. I’m just saying we’re not losing much. I’m excited for a fresh start
  17. Williamson was recruited as an undersized center who then redshirted to lose all the bulk that even made that possible. He looks like a small forward out there even when he's in at the end of the game with walk-ons. My guess is he goes D2 and is productive there. Blocker got 42% of minutes this season and was the worst contributor on the worst UB team in 10+ years. We don't need to see anything more from him. Mading is clearly raw with high upside, but the injuries/family situation was out of his or anybody at UB's control. You can only do so much development if you can't practice. The "we need to see what we have in them" comments are always weird. The coaches see SO much of them in practice, if they couldn't help our worst team in forever they're not long term pieces in all likelihood. That said I wish them all the best and appreciate the work they put in at UB even though it didn't pan out.
  18. I think this info was previously available but I'll consolidate it here MTE: Gulf Coast Showcase in Estero, FL (Valparaiso, Wright St are other teams I've seen in this MTE so far) 12/2 vs. St. Bonaventure TBD @ UC Irvine
  19. I'd hate for us to bottom out with an 88th rated team (per kenpom) after unexpectedly losing our star player to the pros two years early (Champagnie was a 0 star recruit). That'd be terrible for UB. Or when he bottomed out at 54th at Arkansas with 2 future NBA players still on the roster he left (Mason Jones was a 0 star recruit out of JUCO). Mike Anderson is a good coach.
