I fully expect Burke to bring in a handful more players over the next few weeks...would not be surprised to see a JUCO or two as well. Players like Bone and Wilson may have realized their best chance at playing time was likely not at UB, despite the coaching change.
With the addition of Stone, Watson and Perkins, we will have a good chance at replacing a fair (no pun intended) amount of the scoring lost with Fair and Woolley. Stone and Watson in particular are scorers at multiple levels.
Has anyone heard anything on Gaba? Did not see her in any of the workouts but do not see her in the portal either. If she has a full off-season, she has the potential to be a real asset on the offensive side down low. Hopefully Christie will stay but again, I'm sure we will be bringing in a few other bigs.

Good for Ade, should provide some needed leadership there after losing the top pick in the draft.
-
Watson is, from all indications, a very strong shooter. Assuming both Camp and Young both do return, that would give the team a true pg in Camp, a solid combo in Young, a wing in Perkins and a true SG in Watson. Good start thus far.

Perkins will be a grad transfer...solid player. Guard with great size, streaky shooter but should provide some stability at the 2/3 during the transition year. At the very least, we will have very experienced guard play with Camp, Young and now Perkins.
-
With the number of players in the portal, we will get some decent talent. The real hard yards will come in getting whomever comes in the gel into a team.
-
We just offered Re'Shawna Stone, the D2 POY from National champions Glennville State, who is in the portal.
-
Young was one of the 5...not sure on McEvans and Camp as they have not yet entered the portal to my knowledge but did not see them today. Possibly, some had class?
-
Rose from Upstate now in the portal.

Take the fact that she has only stayed at her previous jobs for a few years with a grain of salt...that's how it works in D2, D3, low majors, etc. As you work your way up the better jobs and desirable openings get less and less plentiful.
The important thing is Coach Burke is young, is a winner on the court and on the sidelines, has plentiful "big time" connections and has a chance to keep UB on the right path.

D2 Coach
and a first round exit in the Big South tourney as a 3 seed.
I'm not impressed
Lol...you think we were getting an established mid-major or higher HC?
-
Like this hire...young, energetic, already proven she can build programs (build back up here), high level connections.
-
At this point I just hope Fair goes somewhere other than Cuse to really show what she can do.
-
Also, no one was ever forced to stay anywhere, but there were consequences. Again, need some middle ground between "stuck" for four years and the ability to freely up and leave every year or enter the portal at one's leisure consistently.

I think that all of that can be said about kids when they first go through the recruiting process too, so I don't understand how then making them spend 4 years wherever they first went is a better solution. At least they're 1+ year older and have an idea of what they did/didn't like in their last school.
I do not think they should be "locked in" to four years at a given school/team, but their needs to be some middle ground. How many chances does one get to "get it right."
One free transfer, ok, I can live with that. Some switching 3 or more times? There has to be a caveat.

The best interest of the players is to constantly think about skipping town bc of what persons of varying expertise put into their ear? Sounds great.
Yes, a percentage go about the process with sound logic and thorough insight but I'm willing to guess that number is south of 50% Hey, they're just kids right?

Both teams might be dancing in one of those dingy, dank basement keg parties.

Entering the portal is just another way to let them tell their story.
-
The moral here is kids have no clue what they want/think they want...the lack of responsibility due to the current transfer rules breeds apathy.

Happens even with blue bloods. Vic Schaefer and Kim Mulkey left very successful programs.
Yes but a far better chance the success of the program can be continued at places like that...at a mid major you need to hit the proverbial jackpot.
-
Rooting for a mid major sucks...no wonder so many ppl fins their way to blue blood fandom.

I obviously was not referring specifically to Michigan State.
Also, these are slightly different times for our women's program...instead of our head coach stepping down to head to a MAAC school, our head coach may be going to the ACC.
-
The situation that played out at Missouri State would be an ideal scenario for UB is FLJ does indeed leave...after Harper left for Tennessee, they brought in Agugua-Hamilton, a top young assistant/associate HC at a solid program (Michigan State).
Missouri State has not had any drop off, if anything, they were even more successful, with a sweet 16 appearance last season and an at-large berth this season.
If we need to hire a new coach, hopefully we will make something close to as good a hire as Missouri State did.

Wow...CMU had a wide open drive to the basket to force OT after a Toledo missed ft and instead kicked it out for a 3 but time expired. Unreal.

The same thing is happening now as the same time as last year, getting hot toward the end of the season. We are beating people we should be beating, which that in itself is quite satisfying. The last 2 games of the regular season Toledo and Kent State are going to be the games where we will see where we are at. We should beat Kent, but Toledo is going to be a tough game. They even got the best of Ohio. Ohio and Toledo are what is going to stand in the way of the ncaa tourney. Hopefully this 4 game win streak isn’t a complete sham.
Kent is on a 7 game win streak, including winning in Toledo last night by 13. I'd say they are just as big a threat rn.

I liked McEvans game...another thing to consider is she is coming off of a major injury. Not sure how long she will be out for but shoulders can be very tricky.
