  1. I agree with what everyone has said so far. One thing worries me about this game...Western has a 7 footer who has had some big games. If Perkins doesn’t play that will be a tough cover. As said Bertram is slow, McRae is foul prone. So it will be interesting to see this unfold.

That said despite going on the road we should win. Go Bulls!

West Virginia is currently 0 - 4 in Big 12. So our victory there continues to lose its luster. Syracuse is currently an 11 seed per Lunardi...on the bubble. Southern Illinois - nowhere. San Francisco has been dropped from the in crowd by Lunardi. A Doms win against the Zags would bolster the Bulls’ body of work, but I suspect that UB will have to win the MAC conference tournament to qualify for the ‘Dance’. The MAC will get 1 bid.

I agree.  Especially since it seems no other team so far is going to separate itself from the pack with us.  The best chance for the MAC to be a two bid league is for us to run house during the regular season and lose in the conference championship game to the 2nd best team in the league.  And then our resume should get us in.  But I don't want to risk anything.  Take care of business and win the conference tourney.

Yep, it wasn't a good day for the higher ranked teams in my MAC tiers lol

I'm with you on your first point. It appears that EMU is one of the best teams in the conference despite their ugly start to the season.

EMU is going to give people fits with their rebounding ability and zone d.  Not to many teams play zone so credit us bc during the non conference we played Cuse and SIU threw some zone at us.  We were prepared for it whereas I'm sure other MAC teams aren't.  Scheduling matters.  Great job by the staff.

    What was capacity before renovation?

Like 8k plus.  The game in question set the attendance record.  I was there and there were plenty standing.  We also court stormed too.  Probably won't be broken bc capacity now is just over 6k.

Anyone offhand know what the highest attendance was? You’d think if we keep the success up when the students come we could break it. There’s a lot of extra standing room on that track...

The largest crowd was before the renovation.  MAC tourney game against NIU in 2004. I don't know post renovation.

  6. When you defend, force turnovers and rebound you can win when the shots aren't falling.  And that's what we did today.  The second half was obviously better than the 1st.  We shot 50%, made some 3s and hit FTs better in the 2nd half (FT shooting still needs to improve).  In the end it's another huge victory.  We are gonna get everyone's best shot and on the road it's gonna be tougher but our leadership and depth is too good.  At some point we will lose a game but I can't see us losing too many.

Hope the Perkins injury isn't too serious.  Grade 1 ankle sprain but we travel and play on Tuesday so maybe he's held out a game.  Would be a big blow to our size but his health long term is more important.

Yeah, he had that great drive and 1 but bricked a couple 3s very quickly after. I do love his aggressiveness though and quick release.

One his best performances of the season so far. Contributed in other ways and played instinctually. Rondo was solid too. Eventually he will develop a mid range pull up game like Wes Clark.

An old guide to the (it will always be Air Canada) Centre in Toronto sets minimum rental rate for public events at Air Canada Centre is $25,000 or 18 percent of the net ticket proceeds (whichever is higher). Tack on 42k in estimated expenses.

Capacity is 19,800. If you sold out with $30 CAD tickets:

    Ticket Revenue =       594,000
    Rental rate 18% =       106,920
    Expenses =                   42,000
Confetti clean up fee = 4,000 (lets treat ourselves)
Parking concessions etc = 0 (house keeps it)

    UB profit =                  441,080 CAD = 332,407 USD

If the baseline was to make 200k USD, you'd have to either sellout (19,800) @ $19 CAD OR sell at least 12,500 at $30 CAD both seem do-able. I'd imagine Keybank rental rates are similar...

Great insight. Obviously comes down to turnout. We can’t do this and draw 5k.

So maybe it becomes a one time experiment in which you budget for and plan ahead for. Set aside funds for it. Obviously when the time comes you promote and market the heck out of it. And deal with the expenses as they are and profit (if there is one). I just think for one night it can be done. And if it yields positive results then perhaps it’s something that we can do once or twice a year.

  9. Before we think hosting a tournament, how about we do one singular game. If the students don’t come out then shame on them. With our student population and 5k community support there’s no reason we can’t get at least 10k. Obviously there’s added expenses and challenges but for one game for this team and coach there’s gotta be a way.

Imagine a late season conference game against Kent St (I’m thinking conference game that way we don’t have to buy a game) and we draw 10k fans, plus a few hundred  KSU fans unfortunately. I think something like that could work. Gotta start small set the standard then grow.

  10. I think there’s a handful of teams that for specific reasons can present challenges, but this is our conference to lose.

From 2-8 you’re gonna see teams jockey and bang heads all season long. But I think going forward CMU, EMU (bc of the size and zone) Toledo, Ball St and Kent St are the biggest threats. Maybe Akron and/or Ohio can challenge but we should dominate. And BG tends to always fall off.

Interesting forward flyer. We seem to knock it out of the park with 1-3 players but for some reason can't get a 4-5 to come here. We were after a couple this year who wouldn't give us the time of day.

I'm fine with taking a chance, but I don't see much in him that screams potential starter. I think another late bloomer.

Nothing wrong with a late bloomer. Look at the senior leadership this year. We are still a school, despite the recent success, that needs to develop under recruited kids. If we pluck a 4 star here or there that’s great.

Oats tried to capitalize off the run last year but kids still aren’t sold. So he stocked up on Juco players. And is now trying to find a few kids to grow and develop to help the long term sustainability. Which if he does rounds out a pretty good recruiting class. One that could have us not have a big drop off next year that we may fear.

  12. While we may not be bringing in 3/4 star freshmen, the Juco route is proving to be prosperous.

Interesting to also see some of the other players who were either on our roster or verbal commits ranked too (Miller-Moore, James Reese and Javion Hamlet).
