Insane to not call a timeout after Maddox hits that three to make it 56-48
Ehh. Not calling a timeout wasn’t a mistake. The following possession they ran a slip screen and Williamson turned the ball over on the catch/dribble. The bigger issue was all the empty possession down 1 before that 10-0 Toledo run. Possessions included turnovers

This is great news for the MAC. Adding UMass is tremendous for basketball and also signals the conference might still want to add Western Kentucky to round things off.
Can you imagine a MAC with:
UMass, WKU, Akron, Toledo, Kent State, Ohio, Buffalo etc...
That's a pretty good mid-major league most years!
We need to get our sh!t together in the two big sports.

Fully aware that's a now 3-10 MAC play EMU team... but I'm not gonna deny that we are playing better basketball since the Georgia Southern game. Some promising signs of life for next season perhaps?
8 assists for Fulcher. Zaakir giving us huge, productive minutes with Jo in foul trouble.
Go Bulls 🤘
I’ve not posted a lot this season bc of overall down state on this board but objectively speaking it’s pretty clear that we are playing better ball. We will worry about next year in two weeks when the season ends but it is nice to get a win. And show some signs of life that can possibly bleed over into the next game. Agree that it was the two worst teams in the conference but maybe to end the season we can find a way to get wins against WMU and NIU and just compete strong in the other games. Scrapping the bottom of the barrel here I know but that’s where we are. Go Bulls.

How about the bench production! 3 guys accounting for 24 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists.

UB battled and gave a solid Akron team a tough fight which is encouraging. They do seem to be improving. That said, they just don't have the right collection of guys. Huge roster turnover will be needed following this season.
Agree. What it boils down to also is upper classmen not being leaders and having little situational awareness. Two examples…Smith dives on a lose ball and instead of calling a timeout he throws the ball into an Akron crowd of players. A possession or two before that Adams tried to dribble penetrate from the top of the key and turned the ball over going 1 v 2. Both those possessions were late in the game when we were down 3-5. We have a young and inexperienced roster but what’s compounding our issues is our upper classmen aren’t taking control. Plain and simple we are a team that doesn’t know how to win. We don’t know how to execute in the crunch to win games. For what it’s worth, I thought GH3 called the timeout at the right time, dialed up the right plays got the ball where it needed to go…players just didn’t execute. Against NIU players did hit their FTs. The last week we’ve been playing our best stretch of basketball yet yielding negative results.

Kent ran it up from 23-17 to 31-17.
Halcovage timeout.
1:26 later, Kent had run it up to 39-17.
Halcovage timeout.
Brutal stretch.
At least he calls timeouts to try to stymie the runs 🤷🏻♂️

I’ll take Fulcher’s energy and drives to the hoop all day long. Minus the turnovers 😂
We average the 8th most turnovers in the country. They just said on the broadcast.

You know what the saddest part of this season is, that we started conference play 1-0 and currently are just two games out of 8th. I always thought the goal for this season was to get to Cleveland and in a year where 5-6 wins can secure the 8 seed, this display is especially bad.
-
They just said on the broadcast…we shoot the most 3s per game in the conference yet we are dead last in 3pt FG% in the conference. And 5th worst in the country. Literal definition of insanity. Combine that with poor defense and we get blown out every game

Every time I watch a game on CBSSN I cry when they show bump shots of our glory days.

Does anyone think we'll need big NLI to keep Boldin and Sabol?
I do not think either player is ready for a step up in college basketball. Remember jumping into the portal is as much about wanting NIL as it is having schools interested in investing in paying you. And while I like them as prospects they are no where near ready for a jump. I think the eventual outcome is a transfer but not after this season.

Better days are ahead. I definitely saw some positives. Akron just rubbing it in now for no reason. Posting Ali Ali in an 18 point game under 2. File that away for the future.

I give guys like him and Freeman credit for sticking around with one team so long. It’s a rarity these days
Also Ali Ali who transferred back. It’s clear they are the MAC favorites.

That was a really nice 3 point play the old way by Boldin, I think he is going to be good.
Agree on Boldin. He’s a player. Hope he stays and can develop here

Graham just looks lost. Sabol is close on his 3's but not quite there. Adams was starting to get a rhythm towards the end of the 1st half. Hopefully he can get it going again. Chatman is like Watson for the WBB, he's doing everything he can to keep the team in the game.
Agree on Graham. Looks like a guy who hasn’t played in years. I feel like this team needs more from Adams. He’s an upperclassman. We need more from him. He needs to be a number two to Chatman.

Plus Tribble with a full arm extension no call. I really don't like that guy.
Crazy that wasn’t called. Full extension!

There’s a lot that I see that I like. There’s a lot that tells me that Halcovage can coach. This team is developing and that we need to give him time. All that said, Sabol is not a PG. The lack of a PG continues to be an issue and will need to be addressed in the off season by bringing in multiple PGs. Turnovers are an issue. And the biggest issue is consistency. In stretches we’ve played very good D. Functioned as an offense. We’ve had set plays off of timeouts. If coach can recruit players, I think he can turn this around.

Maybe one day someone will get smart and bundle all these apps into one
Won’t ever happen. Companies are too greedy. What you’re likely to see is content licensed out to other platforms. And/or mergers. ESPN buying the nfl network is an example.

So this is point where we usually start collapse right? At the under 4 first half mark?

Granted, WMU has beaten 3 of the weaker teams thus far, but still impressive start with 2 road wins for a team picked to finish in the bottom third of the MAC.
We had a soft 3 games to start conference play including two at home. I’d trade our 1-2 start for theirs. Essentially with 3 wins in the bag, they may only need 4-5 more to find their way into Cleveland.
