The recruiting by this staff is underwhelming. As incredible as it is, I actually feel worse about our chances next year than I did at the end of the season.

I actually like this recruiting, I like this build

This past season I didn't really see a path forward but I'm at least seeing a path

Granted I think overall talent is down currently but the team might be up

CuJo leading Iowa St with 21 pts as they trail Illinois by 6 with 4:00 to go.

With Bama advancing it’d be pretty wild to have another former Bull make it to the Elite 8.  Illinois not making it easy

Update:  Curtis finishes with 26 including 8/8 FT but didn’t get enough help from his teammates to win.  Will be interesting to see if he starts next year as a senior (assuming he stays).

He was insane in this game, I didn't think he had this type of game in him. He was taking pretty much anyone off the dribble

I've enjoyed having a rooting interest in a random big 12 program this season

Personally, I'm not worried about seniors. I would rather get juniors that we can help build for a couple years and help mentor the young guys.

The reality is, we may just end up with Sabol, AJ, McVeigh and Wilson. That may be our core and I saw improvement from all of them (AJs injury was unfortunate, but I think he has a good ceiling).

I think Fulcher and Zaakir are 50/50 for returning. Zaakir has been thru a lot here from the previous staff, coaching change, injuries, etc. He may just need a reset and I wouldn't blame him.

I would rather have a full clean slate, no holdovers, get the guys in that the staff wants and put their system in place 100%. If it doesn't work, then it doesn't work. I would much rather have that than this Frankenstein we had this year, where it was clear not everyone was working off the same sheet of music. We can be successful with the right system, get some NIL in place.

We have to remember, Nate Oats left 5 years ago (that was our heyday), look at what has changed since then. His model is going to be really hard to replicated with the current transfer rules, NIL, etc. Would we have been able to keep CJ and Perkins? Maybe they like Oats that much they wouldn't have left, I don't know.

We do need to rally behind the group and do what we can and if we have the ability to build a comparable NIL package to other mid-majors we should be peers with, then we need to. If NIL had been around when we knocked off Arizona, don't you think we would have pulled one together pretty damn quick when the feelings were high? It wasn't, I don't think JW pushed it when it became a thing. I heard that GH3 wanted to get one going when he first got hired, but it really didn't get legs until Lembo started. We can lament the lateness, but now that it's here, we need to get on board or get left behind.

    **END OF RANT**

Seniors won't make or break a season but I think the staff can find upper class men that would fit their system and not hold back any development of the under classmen

I like how the team is being built with freshman from the ground up, put in the tough time the first couple seasons and reap the benefits of it later. Making team management easier down the line

It hasn't been optimal, frankly it's been worse case scenario in my opinion. They need upper classmen with experience or they will be staring another four win team in the face and not being able to see the a third season

Excellent news. He felt like kind of a lame duck leftover from the failed roster build last year. His skills disappeared at some point between Maryland and here.

Three open roster spots now for a PG, a big, and a dealer's choice (another wingy big imo).

Didn't think he would enter, but does open another scholarship to tweak/change over the roster further

I guess they may as well grab what they can. A very small number of transferring players are going to the NBA, some may play professionally abroad. It is a shame though that the college experience is being diminished. There are definitely players in the wrong situation, I get that and they should be able to find a better fit, but i seriously doubt 800 players are in the wrong situation.

I think eventually and likely pretty soon if it isn't already there, going in the portal will be the equivalent of having a resume on indeed or LinkedIn where employers can contact you.

At the end of the day, take care of your own and transfers will be minimal

  6. If anyone has a subscription to the athletic, there was an interesting article about how Jay wright influenced Illinois offense this season. Illinois decided to incorporate more nova principles and play "booty ball" as they termed it

Decent look into how GH3 is likely building the roster and his shared thoughts with Jay wright

A point in the article references brad underwood saying that he starts 5 power forwards since they have all played that position at some point in their season/career. Which sounds familiar with the ub roster construction as everyone seems to be a wing and 6'8

I'm intrigued by the prospects we have coming in, but I feel like we're deeper at PG than big. Fulcher, Sabol, and even Boldin at point feels deeper than a raw unknown freshman Brit in Oboh and 6'6 Zaakir as our only bigs.

I get positionless ball but that's about as thin a frontcourt as I've seen.

I'm not as confident in sabol or boldin doing the heavy lifting at point behind fulcher. Solid secondary options on the floor or if the team is in foul trouble but to be the main I'd be worried. College basketball is a guards game

Would feel more confident in being able to scheme defensively to hide the lack of size

Some incomers like Jackson and Akot also play the SG position. We  need a PG and Center transfer next. Many players can be interchangeable on the floor

    Really just another PG

I assume coach is aiming for a roster similar to what Villanova does where they have a big so they have the ability to play a more normal line up but will prefer to play a small line with 4 guys that are 6'8 and can switch and defend 1 through 5

The number of recruits brought in by this staff that are not rated by the recruiting services is shocking. I was at a game about a month ago when I told the person next to me that I could beat McVeigh one on one. Truth is he’d beat me 9 out of 10, but I could get him once. The difference between the types of athletes and players today compared to the golden era is stark.

UB commit Brayden Jackson is playing/announced to the all Canadian team. I'm not familiar with it or it's history but it's something

If you're bored check out the names also announced to this team while Jackson doesn't have any stars where I find him listed on recruiting sites the guys on this all Canadian team are all power conference recruits with 3/4/5 stars

    Gotta mean something good

That will likely require a sitout season right? Or did he redshirt this season?

I think the sit out season is currently on hold, but it's tough to keep up with all the rulings

Anyway I think he would be a solid candidate for a waiver. Since I assume he is transferring because the coach that recruited him there was let go

Tre Dinkins is listed as CG by barttorvik 2.4 PRPG!, averaged 15.4 ppg shooting 36.5% from three and had 3.6 assist per game.  Defensively may not be ideal with only 1 steal per game and turnovers are a little high.

Not much on that roster on paper at least. Haven't watched enough of them to know for certain

Did notice Joe Jones local buffalo kid who has fairly sought after for minute on their team though

No. NY Bulls was an attempt to raise UB's profile. But locals are allergic to anything ambitious.

It's the best thing about buffalo but it's also the worst thing

Im also not sure if ambitious is the right word to describe what I know you are saying though
