The pressure and length of vandy is giving ub fits
-
8 fouls already
Gonna test our depth
-
I'd imagine we see some zone this year with the lack of big depth, especially if mballa hardnett or brock are in serious foul trouble

Speaking in defense of Williams...he has to shoot 3s to keep defenses honest. If not defenses will sag off him and thus take away his driving ability. What he can’t do is chuck up 3s willy nilly. He only took 2 yesterday. 2 isn’t a big deal. But he has to take em to keep defenses guessing. I see growth in his game from a year ago. And growth on a game by game basis.
As for Rondo starting, he can’t. Plain and simple. Why? Bc then we have no reliable backup PG. Yes I know Gallion is there but we can’t entrust a freshman with that big of a role, just yet. It’s a role he will have to grow into. An example is Rondo a season ago. Furthermore it’s not who starts but who finishes. Rondo should be on the court when it matters.
I strongly agree with you that guys are finding their roles and the rotation is starting to take shape. Grant can be a guy off the bench who comes in and scores. Nickleberry can come in and buy minutes and just contribute but not be a focal point. Hardnett I’m falling in love with. Mainly bc we are playing him out of position but he is still out there hustling. Just imagine when we play him at the 3 or 4. There was a great profile on him during halftime in yesterday’s broadcast.
Tuesday against Vandy is very winnable. Let’s go Bulls!
Williams hardnett mballa will be an absolute terror by the end of the season if brock can provide some decent minutes and allow all of them to play different spots on the floor
The ability to switch defensively on this team will be unseen of at the mac level. This team defensively has a lot of potential. We have seen it already with the amount of turnovers we are forcing. They just need to build more chemistry and continue to communicate

DePaul will likely be ranked when we play them. Would def. get some looks if won both but one at a time for now.
Depaul is a very beatable team. I watched their game last week and nothing really stood out. Probably similar to uconn.
We also play DePaul after they play their biggest game and test of the year(texas tech), which could be a benefit to ub

If we can win these next two games we will see just how far the brand of ub basketball has come.
Wouldn't expect to be ranked or anything but a single vote would start to show the name recognition even if the vote was a throw away vote of sorts
-
Starting to settle for bad shots
But there have been times so far this game this team looks like the team last year
-
Only saw the final 10 minutes, but seems like it was very similar to the other games this year
Inconsistency
To be expected with a pretty much a new team as while as a younger team
I love that Jordan is starting to take over and be the go to, its well deserved
-
Hardnett reminds me a lot of Williams, both very athletic and long.
I have thought he has shown progress each game. The same with nickelberry but not quite as much as hardnett.
I forgot about Fagan, he would be huge to have right now
-
Johnson should be used as a spot shooter, have him run around screens, catch and shoot. Or get him the ball while he is moving/slashing. He is an off ball guard. Has struggled when running point
-
We definitely need to pressure on defense more often, think it will help speed the tempo and hide our lack of big depth. Plus our big depth right now are all long and quick

For the gamblers on this message board or those interested, the point spread was 5
-
It seems our best 5 is Jordan segu graves williams and mballa. They always seem to be making stops and scoring points so far this season
-
Only caught the last 10 minutes or so but they look as if they're continuing to grow
In those mballa was unstoppable offensively was that good the whole game?
Also really look forward to see where this team ends up by seasons end. Still a lot of talent on this roster and going forward
-
This team is definitely starting to figure out its rotation and player roles
Another great game by graves and rondo

It's getting obvious hiring Whitesell was a mistake. Totally undisciplined team. If they were going to hire from within FLJ world have been better.
What makes you say this? Its been 1.5 division 1 games thus far
A lot of the undisciplined actions have been from freshman or sophomores, they'll learn. Besides Johnson who has tried to do too much hero ball and whitesell seemed to have sat him for stretch that half

Bulls getting murdered on the boards. Shooting 20%. I've just seen back to back uncontested air balls from 3.
Sloppy game so far
Considering all the 2nd chance points harvard has and the poor shooting percentage by ub if they can clean it up thus becomes a very winnable game

A big thing I noticed about last night was the communication and talking on the floor. Very little of that happened against Dartmouth
Also hopefully it isnt because of the competition but the players we are counting actually played aggressive. Against Dartmouth it seemed as everyone was hoping someone else will step up
-
The intensity they have played with is a good sign.
Hopefully they're getting a rotation down and building chemistry

I agree there should be no panic mode after one game. Before the season there were many positive vibes about all our new players but only time will tell if they will become good div 1 players. Maybe there was more positive vibes about this team because of our last few years of success. Johnson and Grant did not have good stats on their former teams and Mballa was not a first tier player or TT. You never know how Juco’s are going to perform against better Div 1 talent. Not sold on Williams as a Div 1 player as he showed no progression from last year as he forced shots on the offensive end and was as bad on defense as he was last year. Segu showed promise but only time will tell. Whitesell showed little during the game and seemed overwhelmed at times. I do believe this team will need some time along with the coaching staff to become comfortable and gain some confidence to play as a team. Even if they have a good game against Div 111 Nazareth it will not be a good barometer on how we will play against Div 1 teams. Our family will be with this team every step of the way. Go Bulls!!!!!
Agree
The whitesell comment is a very good point. The bulls looked slow and let Dartmouth dictate how the game would be played.
Whitesell needs to adjust a bit better. We were playing at a slow pace, would have liked to see a press earlier and more often. Help your team correct its play.
A loss like this can be a great learning experience and even increase team bonding/building

Also
Johnson & grant first game against a division 1 opponent in nearly 2 years
First division 1 game for hardnett
First meaningful minute division 1 game for mballa (also segu and williams to an extent)
-
They started playing better the second half of the second half. Just can start as poorly as they did and expect to win games
I think it might be segu's time. Let him run the offense and allow Jordan do what he does best pressure defense
The transfers besides mballa had a rough go tonight.
I'll be positive because how they ended and the intensity they ended with. So I hope they used this game as a game to get rotations and chemistry down. After all its basically an entire new team

If he is still planning on announcing today, its gotta be a commitment to ub.
