I think some team will draft him in the 2-3 just because of his physical attributes. Watch out for the Broncos, Elway loves tall QBs.

That would be interesting.  When they list NFL comparisons I've seen Paxton Lynch named as a comparison for Tyree.  He was one of Elway's worst picks at 26th overall in 2016.  TJ could go to Denver but Elway won't reach to grab a project QB this time around.

  2. Even a day before the draft, some sites have Tyree getting drafted on day two (Rounds 2-3) and some peg him as a 5th or 6th rounder.  There's no consensus.  So I guess based on that, look for Tyree to get drafted in the 4th round!   I'm thinking Giants, Falcons or Buccaneers.

  3. I feel like this will be the norm for reasonably good players at most FBS schools.

If they don’t enter the portal at some point in their college career, they aren’t doing something right. At the first sign of adversity, bam...heading straight to the portal. These college players love having the ability to be free agents.

  4. What's the deal?  I feel like people would be killing Oats if he were openly interviewing for an upgrade while still at UB ,,, It's got to be tough to keep the current players happy with this.. and not have potential recruits disillusioned by a possible coaching change.

  5. Several people who know Jim well (Oats, Hodgson, Danny White, etc.)  think it's a great hire and are congratulating The Bulls program and our AD on social media.    So I'm more than willing to give Mark Alnutt the benefit of the doubt here that this is a good hire.  He took his time, checked out the landscape of potential candidates and then pulled the trigger.

  6. I’m not inspired by this hire and I’m a little concerned as to what the AD and search firm were doing all week?  But ok, he’s the guy so I will get behind Whitesell and see where it goes.

I’m assuming those de-commits were Oats/Hodgson guys anyway so they weren’t staying at UB regardless.  Hoping he can keep the rest of the team intact and play up-tempo

I loved Turner as a player. I'm not sure I see him as our next coach.

I feel like the UB job should be a bigger deal now.  This team was Top-25 all season and they are a recognizable basketball brand.  No offense to Turner Battle...just hoping for someone who brings some top-shelf experience here and an exciting up-tempo style.    I know Hurley and Oats were first time NCAA coaches at UB.  Not sure I want to go that route for this hire?  It's a tough call.

  8. How do you think Oats' first few years at Alabama will stack up to Hurley's first 4 years at Arizona State? (listed below).    Both Universities have had a few good years and many years of mediocrity in college hoops.

    Hurley, Arizona State

    2015-2016  15-17

    2016-2017  15-18

    2017-2018  20-12

    2018-2019  23-11

Really bad look for Hodgson. He is on UB's payroll and he is down in Alabama working for someone else.  I have no interest in this guy being my head coach.

What the he!! man?  The guy is wearing an Alabama shirt hanging out with their recruits.  Was Hodgson fired by UB?  I have no idea what the story is here.  There's no way he can be the Bulls head coach.  Not welcomed back here.

For me, it's just still a bit of a shock. Once we get a new coach, and I embrace it, then I'll get over it. But I'll probably never like Oats after he just disappeared in the fashion he did.

Pretty much agree with ya there.  With each passing day thoughts about Oats and his amazing vanishing act erode away..   I'm way more interested in who we hire and getting UB hoops momentum ramped up again..

ha, now we're going to believe all the pr scrubbed, edited, friendly news articles that make everything sound better.  😄

He and his family really liked it here. There's no disputing that.  He is taking a hit in the short-term family happiness department.

In another article i read somewhere...the Alabama AD said he's had his eye on Oats since 2018 when they beat Arizona.  I'm sure he knew everything about Nate and his background..got numerous first hand references leading up.  Then pounced as soon as the Bulls run ended.  Oats went to Tuscaloosa without ever seeing the place.  It's all about the life-changing money and chance/resources to get to the Final-4

  12. We don't have any idea of what Mark Alnutt's intentions are?  This is his first major adversity, and gigantic upcoming hire.  Maybe he has a short list of candidates from outside the program.  Who knows?!?  Danny White went outside the box giving a huge name in college hoops his first big gig.  He also went off the normal road and hired the D-3 leader in winning % on the football side.    This will be interesting for sure.  Sounds like there are UB influencers pulling for Hodgson which may throw a wrench into Alnutt's plans.

It is pretty cool that the fanbase here cares enough about this program to be watching flights and trying to interpret "Likes" on Twitter.

Here’s the thing...there are currently over 400 kids in the transfer protocol...whoever comes in as coach can get a few of those. We are going to have to bottom out before we can rise again. Good riddance Allen it was nice never knowing you.

Is he the kid that had the "UB" logo cut into his hair last weekend?   One of the recruits did that on Insta i think.
