This was my thought as well. Hopefully he enjoys it here enough to not be swayed by other offers, because power 5 teams won’t even blink at that buyout.

Yep, some Big10 program would reach into their petty cash drawer to pay that buyout.

Hopefully, as Nate says...his agent will just say "thanks but no thanks" to all calls.   With all the recruiting scandals going on and nonsense.. coach has a great thing going here.

I’m not sure I agree with that. I’d say Maryland is still a big step ahead of us. We had one good season now that ended on a loss in the conference championship and bowl game. Next year looks like it could be back to the basement. I think Maryland is way ahead of that.

Sad to see him go but wish him luck

Agree.  UMD wiped out all the coaches/staff that had any part in creating that so-called "toxic" atmosphere and also, those who mishandled Jordan McNair's collapse during a team workout.

So they are starting fresh with a new coach- Mike Locksley.  He was able to recruit some very good players and got a 4-star QB to commit , who was previously heading to Florida St.  Things looking up for the Terps.

  3. He had a great combine physically, but we all know he is a great athlete.  It's the throwing that everyone really needs to evaluate. Once Steve Smith intervened,  Tyree threw a softer ball in the gauntlet drill.  But then in another drill that required a long ball, he underthrew guys a couple times.  So not sure how much that jerk Steve Smith messing with Tyree's head on the field, in the middle of a drill, helped him..   There were 100 other ways to get the message to Tyree during that one drill to ease off the fastballs.  But Steve had to make it about him.

  4. I don't see where UB is a Lock for anything...  But they at least have TWO paths to be a LOCK,

    1) Win the final 6 MAC regular season games

    or

    2) Win the MAC tournament

I don't think either option will be easy.  Over these final 6 games the opponents are going to treat the games like their own personal Final Four experience.  IF UB can navigate through these last 6 games and win them they would be on a nine-game MAC winning streak.  That's really hard to pull off.

  5. Seems odd but UB plays it's best ball when they are losing for much of the 1st half.  Then they come out focused and ready for the 2nd.  We've seen this a bunch during the MAC games. When they are cruising through the entire first half and leading, the opponent makes a big 2nd half push which can be tough to stop on the road.

  6. It's the new normal.  Players are super excited about the transfer portal and being a "free agent".   They no longer have to seek permission to transfer,  only notify the school of their intent and then enter the portal. Bam, done!   The really big thing is all the undergraduate transfers now getting waiver requests approved to play immediately...like Justin Fields.   ESPN said something like 80% of the FBS players who have applied for immediate eligibility have been approved.  The entire "sit out a season" rule might even get abolished soon enough.  Right now the rules are vague and coaches can't stand it.  Seems like productive players at G5 schools want to move up to bigger programs...and players at P5 schools who aren't getting enough playing time want to move to another program to showcase their skills...    You would think G5 schools will benefit from that.

I think the NCAA has to figure out what's best for the students athletes and football programs.

Charlie Jones is the one looking to transfer per 247's excellent transfer portal site...darn. Explains why we signed 2 JUCO wideouts late.

    Transfer Portal

That stinks but gotta move on.   These college football players want to be Free Agents now that it's available to them.  If they feel they are not getting enough playing time, or not being utilized properly...or the talent around them is thin.,,or they don't like a coach...  then they are going to bail and try to find greener pastures.   Every program is facing this.

  8. It's nice to remain in the Top-25 for the UB Bulls brand and also i feel it solidifies their at-large chances.  If/when they fall out of the Top-25, I think all bets are off and they will likely have to win the MAC Tourney.   UB will have a huge bullseye on their backs,,,,they already do.

I agree but we never know who he knows in the coaching fraternity. The games against better quality teams we were out played and out coached. This will be the year if he learns from his mistakes in those games. Go Bulls!!!!

He's a smart, methodical football coach  I'm sure he will learn from past experiences.  Most coaches will.  But the fact is the results may not be as good in 2019.  Or a better way to put it is the team may not be as experienced in skill positions as it has been and therefore may take 1 step back.   That's college football though.  Guys leave or graduate and the program has to reload.  I think we're in good hands for the future and it would be a nice improvement if the Bulls can win 3 of their final 4 games,,,,rather than what we saw in 2018.

  10. BG is a pretty solid team.  It’s not like the Bulls lost to a lousy MAC program.  It was a close road game in a rough environment.  The NIU loss was more concerning.  But I agree with some, they may have one more tough loss to give before its wave goodbye to the Top25 for good.

  11. Yep, let’s win the MAC tourney. Gotta admit, I cringed a couple weeks ago when Coach Oats was interviewed and openly talking about NCAA seeding and the Bulls maybe deserving a 5 seed.

Too many signs that they were going to be pushed hard in MAC play. And now after a couple losses and plenty of tough games left,  the NCAA’s don’t seem like a given anymore.

  12. BG is good, especially in their barn. This loss hurts but it’s not a terrible loss.  I bet many high Major teams would lose games at UB and at BG if they ever had to guts to schedule them.

Anyway, it’s noticeable that UB plays it’s best ball when they seem to struggle a bit in the first half and make a big push in the 2nd.  They become Locked in.  In their losses, it has gone the exact opposite.
