Lots to think about with this game. It was a fun season and I think the school did earn many new fans but the 3 big games with most opportunity to really grow a fan base, the D was a no show and other than the 1st half tonight the O was disappointing in those same 3 games. I really think Tyree's play dropped off the second half of the year compared to first half of season. He was really rattled by pressure tonite and ran into 3 of the 4 sacks. I will be curious if he declares for draft before their bowl game and decides to sit it out if he is going pro. Lastly....can UB please find a reliable kicker?

I noticed after his knee injury, Tyree didn’t run at all, barely moved around in the pocket. He stuck his foot in the ground and made some laser throws.  At mid season he started running again and it seemed like his passing game went downhill.  Not sure if that’s just a coincidence. But yeah I agree his game dropped off quite a bit. He’s not NFL ready imo.

  2. Well that was a brutal ending. I guess this is where I’m supposed to say it was still a great season?!!  Well they worked hard to put themselves in position all season to get to Detroit and late in the 3rd had a 19 point lead and somehow blew it. Definitely a team loss as the O couldn’t do anything in the final 20 mins and the D inexplicably gave up huge plays.  This one hurts.

Maybe on the plus side, Lance feels he now has unfinished business and won’t get poached by some other program.

Not sure what NIU team we will see??? They were 7-5 overall. Beat Ohio 24-21. Lost their last two games Miami(Oh) 13-7 and Western MIchigan 28-21. Who are the players that we should be concerned about??? Go Bulls!!!!

I think NIU were more of a stout defensive team this season and good rushing attack. Didn’t they win a game at BYU 7-6 ?!?   As long as their running back isn’t named A.J. Oulette we should be ok!

  4. Unfortunately when you lose to that magnitude, it takes some of the luster off a great season.  Maybe some AD's who were hot on the trail for Coach Leipold before the game have cooled afterwards.  That would be one good thing to come out of it, i like what's he's done overall and the team is much more athletic than they used to be.   They were not prepared though.  And as others have said, too many believed their press clippings of how great they are/were.

Maybe against BG next week they should prepare a run heavy gameplan.  I don't think the RB's can be held in check if they commit to it.   The passing by Tyree is just way off and this time of year you get crazy wind, rain, snow, etc..

  5. That was such a horrible beat down, I’m concerned it might carry-over to next week. Not to mention if/when they play good teams in the MAC Championship and a Bowl game.  They looked like one of the worst FBS teams in the country out there and Tyree was so inaccurate.

The Bulls really need to lean on their running game and less of the 30 yard passes that go a mile over their heads

  6. I think Ohio is going to be the slightly more desperate club, and they're coming off a tough loss...and they're good.  I can see why they are a slight fav in betting circles.   That's doesn't mean UB won't show up and pound em anyway.  We'll see.  The defense has been solid for the most part, and the O can throw it or play the Ground n Pound game if they choose.

  7. I was also really impressed that UB came out and won a tough road game on the same day they were ranked #25.   The box score shows nine players scored with the high scorer being only 11 points.  To me that's a great sign and is sustainable.  They showed they can win if it takes a 40+ point superhuman effort by one guy, .... but they are more likely to stay in the top 25 if everyone is contributing nightly.

  8. I don't think conferences are going to beat the doors down to get UB an invite.  But I do believe if the University is looking to move up, make athletics a larger priority, more revenue, higher profile, keep coaches, etc..  that the time is now.  The new indoor field house is a game changer too.   If they lose these coaches and the play on the field/court levels off in a couple years, UB won't look all that attractive anymore.

It's a tough call because I feel that the U at B should similar in athletics stature to programs like:  Temple, UConn and Rutgers...  BUT we aren't.

However, on the flip side,  having to play programs like SMU, Tulsa, Memphis, Tulane, etc.. in all sports won't be all that novel after a couple years and will be expensive in terms of travel.

For now, it's great to be in the penthouse of the MAC conference and I'm enjoying it!

  9. Other than the sports betting chatter, there was no national interest in the game.  It was outta hand so early.  I was hoping for a top 10 play or whatever on ESPN but nothing materialized.  Maybe the punt that went backwards was the most unique thing that happened!  The poor Kent State punter probably lost 10 yards off his season average in one game.  Brutal.

  10. Any buzz for this game?  I'm ready to watch some weeknight Maction.  Hoping UB comes out and looks crisp on both sides of the ball.

This game has to be a tough sell for the locals.  Not because of the team but everyone is tired and hungover from staying up late for the Bills game.  That would take some hardcore fans to attend both games on back to back weeknights.

  11. Hey I'll take any of the Bowl games, especially if it's coupled with a MAC Championship game appearance.  That will be two nationally televised games to continue to show off the Bulls fball program and UB in general.

  12. It was a beautiful weather day and a brand name opponent, along with an exciting 4-0 Bulls team.   It was really the perfect storm for a big crowd.  I think there's a sizable group of locals that attend one Bulls game a year (and there's nothing wrong with that).   Based on the factors above, this was the game.  Win or lose those once a season folks would probably not be back for a second game this year.  People have kids and Saturday activities, etc..

I don't think the crowds for Akron, Miami or Kent St. will be anything close to this, but hey, maybe the student body and alums can lend more support for the later season games.

  13. In Maryland, very few people are aware or care. But they barely talk about the local teams unless you are hanging with alums of that school or they are in the Top-25.

It was chilly last weekend so I wore my Bulls hoodie.  A guy noticed it at my sons morning baseball game and told me he's originally from Syracuse..  struck up a conversation how he played D-3 football at Saint Lawrence in the early 80's.  He recalled playing against UB back then and thought it was cool they were probably going to give Big10 Rutgers a beat down,, (which they did a couple hours later).

  14. Coach already said that Army will WIN the time of possession.. so that aspect of the game is not worth worrying about.   But obviously UB has to take advantage of their opportunities with the ball, but not press too hard.  They won't have as many possessions.

Having played Army the past couple years, I think our coaches and players are better prepared on Defense than say Oklahoma was.
