Perk was 6'6" 235 per recruiting sites coming out of high school as well. He seems like a pretty perfect comparison and everything you'd hope Zaakir could become. His offer sheet doesn't wow but always nice to beat out some other top MAC programs and ETSU who seemed to have been recruiting him when Forbes was still HC.

He received pretty high interest from Georgetown and Maryland I’ve heard. Probably wasn’t officially offered due to his size

    First...welcome to UB!

I watched his video that was posted in this thread.

He looks agile for his weight, which is good.  Likes to finish around the rim...doesn't seem afraid of contact.  Will, obviously, need to get in the gym to be able to run up and down the floor consistently.

I didn't see any defense in his video, which I would have liked to see. Who knows -- maybe it just wasn't what he put in the video.  However, UB is a pretty good basketball team now (and has been for the last decade) so if you can't play defense, there are other guys who will take your minutes.

On YouTube he has a tape with him playing some defense, not scared to get physical and uses his strength to keep players out of the paint

Loved this kid's videos. I don't care if he's a little shorter, he can finish around the rim and has the weight on him to body up in the MAC. I think he's gonna be legit. Welcome aboard!!!

He’s the same height as Mballa, should do fine in the MAC

I think the way this staff recruits is just different compared to the previous oats and hodgson. They seem to be much more low key and stealth. Really concentrate on a few rather than a lot (at least I hope, optimistic view)

Every time hodgson/oats made an offer it was an event, everyone knew about it. I feel like this staff is still going after and competing for the same quality players just not making as much of a scene with who they are going after

Maybe that’s it, Brewtons commitment came out of nowhere it seemed. I’ll always have faith in the staff but it’s a bit more of a guessing game with the new staff

I know Quarles and Jenkins last off season would do it. Seems like forever since we have had a recruit signing

For some reason I’m doubting the coaches ability to recruit. We seem to be failing on grabbing players we need or they straight up lose interest with some of them. Losing Jenkins was tough

Makes sense.  Thank you.  I guess the more burning question is whether there has been any buzz on our prospects other than mentioned above.

The only other prospect we seem to be recruiting hard is Victor Hart who’s a Small Forward. It’s been reported that we are recruiting him heavily. Williamson on the other hand doesn’t have much speculation on where he will end up. It’s seems like his top three are LaSalle, UB, and George Mason

I’ve heard rumblings from players like Segu and Williams on Twitter that the team has received word that they will be playing Syracuse this year, just rumors but it’s a good option for a non conference game

Curiousity is getting the better of me; so trying to get any rumors about potential non-conference games.  I came up empty in that regard, but did find this 'gem' from a Syracuse perspective:

'Buffalo - Those first four hypothetical games were fairly challenging, and so it’s safe to say from here on out, Syracuse basketball would have to have some easier games. While Buffalo isn’t the caliber of a UConn or Seton Hall, they would provide a decent mid-major challenge and would keep the ‘Cuse on their toes.  The Bulls actually beat the Orange two years back (again, another game I really wish I didn’t attend), during a year in which Buffalo couldn’t seem to lose. They’ve lost some key pieces since then, including Nate Oats. But if Oats could do that tremendous job after replacing Bobby Hurley,  current Buffalo coach, Lance Leipold, has some of the right keys in his hand already.

Sure, this isn’t the most eye-appealing matchup, but if it does happen, no one will be complaining.'

Can anyone tell me when Leipold started doing double duty? Ha Ha!

Dealing with size defensively is a different question but in this video he scores 3 or 4 times on 7'2" Hunter Dickinson (#1 in blue) who is a 4 star freshman at Michigan.  He does enough off the bounce/in the mid-range that he should be able to hold his own on that end against 6'10"+.  I don't know if he would provide enough rim protection to be a full-time 5 for UB but he could pair with Skogman who (hopefully) will provide some of that.

Charles Barkley, Zion Williamson and Mballa are all PFs who are 6’7 or under. They all are decent defensively. If Zaakir is strong enough to body guys out of the way he shouldn’t be a liability on defense

Depending on how he develops, having his size will be so complementary to Mballa. And also Hardnett.

I know the college game is different than HS but my HS team had a center the same size as Skogman, teams would sometimes let him shoot the three and he’d always make them pay. I can see Skogman being unguarded at the arc due to his size a bit, should be a tough player to guard on offensive because he’s reliable from everywhere

You mentioned replacing Brock so i thought he was a, center. Mballa also is a little undersized against the 6-10 guys isn't he?

Very, Whitesell seems to like smaller PFs, the only “center” we offered is John ese Orogun but it seems like we stoped recruitment on him

Was thinking it was time we get a verbal commitment.  Would like to hear something positive 10/8.

We seem to be recruiting him pretty hard along with George Mason, he follows pretty much every coach in the team which is a good sign. Would be filling the spot we lose with Bertram

Very tragic story indeed but if players can be tested regularly on a daily basis, things like this won’t happen. It’s highly unlikely a player will contract the virus during a practice or game, more likely to contract it while at the dining hall or in class. If players, coaches and officials on each team can be properly tested, it can halt the spread, unfortunately in the case of that young man that didn’t happen. I care about everyone’s safety and wish them well but who knows how long covid will be around for, have to find ways to live life with it until we can really control it, who knows how long that can be. In no way am I trying to argue your point, just sharing an opinion
