  1. Having been in the parade I still have no idea why people come out to get beads and food thrown at them.  From the people I know who were at the parade the key phrase was "thrown at them".  People reported having beads and boxes of food being whipped, as opposed to having them tossed, at them.  May be I am just not a parade person.  I went to two in my life.  Both were the Macy's parade on Thanksgiving Day.  Too cold to enjoy standing outside to see floats and balloons.

I'm looking for some suggestions as well. I'll be heading to the game with a few friends.

I know Dinosaur BBQ is amazing but we already have one in Buffalo. Was trying to find some other go-to spots.

The one is Syracuse is the original and by far the best one.  Much better than the one in Buffalo.

Jeremy Jacobs being the prime example.

The decision to go D3 hurt us for decades longer than we were actually D3. The generation that has a ton of money now went to school when there was no sports culture.

As someone who spent my last three years at UB the first three years of Division III i can tell you there was a dedicated fan base that at times appears to have been stronger than the fan base until a few years ago.

How does an AAU school not have alumni with deep pockets...  Even D3 schools can raise money for athletic facilities...

UB has such alumni.  They have donated to the university to parts other than athletics.

I feel like we played vs Manhattan a few years ago and nobody (including Manhattan fans) showed up.  Maybe I'm just making stuff up.

We played Manhattan seven and five years ago.. Seven years ago at home and five years ago in the Barclays as the return game for  the ESPN Bracketbuster.  That was part of a tripleheader at the Barclays.  That was up against the  Potato Bowl as predicted in May 2013, http://www.ubfan.com/board/index.php/topic,14167.msg161931.html#msg161931

Can you guys take this to another thread? I just want to talk SIU

    Sorry.

If you want to look at a comparison St. John's has drawn 5,000 only once this year on campus in a 5,600 seat facility.  New York City is even less of a college sports town than Buffalo.

I think the problem people have is that they see these facilities from big conference full of fans and think that UB should be like that.  Look at schools like Kansas State, Cal, Miami (Florida) or Virginia Tech* how do they draw?  These are non-basketball schools, in the Power 5 conferences, that are rarely  on TV at home.  The true blue bloods of college hoops will draw, the rest are in the same boat as UB trying to make a dent in the market and get people to games.

    * I did not look up their attendance figures so I may be wrong, but it just a gut feeling that I have.

and the 3 scholarships were self imposed.  we talk about our clean program and the character of those who run it, but would we do that?

Most schools who are under investigation try to figure out what the sanctions are and self impose them before the NCAA comes down with the penalties.  Self sanctioning softens up the NCAA.

Soccer...yes, I am sure the eyes of WNY will be glued to their screens for the West Ham - Fulham matchup (the story lines are endless...can Fulham get out of the drop zone?)

I know...the affiliates are contractually obligated to show it, but it is not like they are dumping any of the Big 6 teams.  They could do it...

By the way...a shopping tip for you:  Christmas is Dec 25th, so you actually have two more weekends to shop.

Forgot about the the following weekend because I will not be able to shop it because I will be at the bowl game and flying around the country.

I understand how important it is to get people out to the game, but increasing regional interest by showing the game on TV...that's good.  Unless our region is really interested in Utah State vs North Texas in the New Mexico Bowl...

Yes...get the game on TV.  If it means 500 less people show up for the game in person, but 50,000 watch it (I am making up numbers here), that's good!

First channel 2 would have to dump out of Premier League coverage.  Not sure the network would be happy with them doing that.  Channel 4 will have CBS college basketball coverage on.  Channel 7 will have bowl games on.  Local channels have very little options to be able to show a local sporting event over their obligations to show network programming.  YOu need a perfect storm to be able to have a game on local TV like the football game this year.  It does not appear that lightning is going to strike twice this year.

The other big thing that could work attendance (which putting ht e game on local TV will hurt walk up ticket buying) is the date.  It is the last Saturday before Christmas and it is huge shopping day.

    @admin

After a few months of using the new site, the new software is a great improvement - kinda like our teams the past few years.  UBFan is one of the few sites that I have whitelisted on my adblocking software.

A suggestion - Can we enable editing of posts?

You can edit your own posts.  Look for the edit link next to the quote link.

    Speaking of welding certificate.

So, I was probably a HS SR when the scandal broke. I vaguely remember some GR talk about Bona but couldn't tell you anything more than they had a program altering quasi academic issue.

So this week I read the wiki for the first time (cause they in my mind are kinda irrelevant and no need before this to research them) and it was one ineligible player? That was the program altering scandal? The U does that every 3 years.

It's like they built a house of sticks and when the wolf blew it down, they just retconned history to say that a hurricane hit to distract from the fact that the program was already poorly positioned for the future.

The scandal may have involved the enrollment of one player, but it had major repercussions throughout the university.
