I predict same thing as basketball coach. Because we have no “NIL” collective, it’ll take 5-6 offers to get someone in here.

It did not take 5-6 offers.  Do not believe everything you read.

As soon as I heard the Linguist news Alex Van Pelt came to mind. I have no idea how he would be in college. But he is available now.

Unless something has changed since 2006, he will be a very hard hire.  Turner Gill wanted him as an assistant.  They had to get waivers, because he never graduated PItt.  They got the waivers and then he went to the NFL, the Bills I think.

    Paul “Bear” Bryant at Alabama

What about Bryant at Kentucky?  What about Bryant at Texas A&M?

Something is seriously wrong with someone to leave $675,000 a year job

How far do you think that more than $675,000.00 goes in Tuscaloosa?

This mentality is what is a generational difference today between my generation and generations before me. You don’t leave a head coaching job where you are your own man for the assistant to the assistant co coordinator because it pays more there is more important things than money it’s ridiculous.

I have had three jobs in 40+ years.  One move was a "demotion". The next one was for a "promotion".  Although not the only reason, more money was a factor in both moves.

Insulting the intelligence of Community College transfers might not be the hottest idea since that seems to be the entirety of UB's potential talent pool

Grammar is a major issue for all recruits.  How many times have you seen a post that a person is thankful for their third offer from East Succotash State?  They only received one offer from that school. The first two offers were from other schools.

Ah, this board and it's constantly shifting goalposts.

Hundreds of millions of dollars in taxpayer money for new sports stadiums - "good investment!"

Investing in the health and financial well being of student-athletes - "FILTHY COMMUNISM, WHERE WILL WE GET THE MONEY, THEY SHOULD USE THEIR DEGREE TO BOOTSTRAP THEMSELVES" etc. etc.

Just admit once these kids graduate and you can no longer place bets on their performance, you don't care at all about what happens to them

City after city shows that investments in stadiums/arenas is bad economically.

The student athletes get scholarships, medical care and now over the last few years mental health assistance.  Not sure how giving students that is communism.

Not paying students for paying sports is a position that I have believed in for decades.

You won't have much company in your boat implying that it has to be one or the other for a D1 program with the resources UB has to offer.

Demanding excellence in both doesn't seem an unreasonbable requirement for a D1 AD, and many many schools are doing it every year.

I never said it had to be one or the other.  I like the winning.  I enjoy the trips to the bowl games.   I have been to Columbus, Providence, Tulsa, Albany and Storrs for the NCAA tournament.  However, education is more important to me than winning.

Between the OC (3) and DC role (4), this is not a positive sign for the program or a quality of great leadeship ability.

Reasons might be many, but coaching consistency in the MAC is critical for player development.

Unless you look at that UB has coaches that others deem good enough to poach.

Is it just me or is the off court "experience" at the Men's and Women's basketball games bad.

Today during the women's halftime, there was technical difficulties for the outside dance group (of about 40-50 kids).  They stood waiting for the music to start and it never did. Lucky, they go rescheduled for after the game and many of the fans stuck around.

Also, hardly any on court promos during the women's game. Only the half court shot.

Then, for the men's games, some crazy free throw contest were the contestant wears vision distorting ski glasses. Then, you have the blind folded person at center court attempted to be directed to the prize by screaming fans.  Didn't tjhey also have for a brief time a "guess the price" game.

Only "interesting" contest was putting 3 people at center court to search through pizza boxes for a prize.

What happened to the putting contest, normal free throw contest. Or even bring back the sumo wrestling in inflatable suits from about 15-20 years ago. Even bring back the kids playing basketball at halftime.

I used to bring people to the games and they'd at least enjoy the entertainment if the game was bad.  Not true this year. Both are bad.

Was nice to at least see the cheerleaders there today (No Dazzlers or Pep Band).

Are the new event people to blame for this sad show of entertainment?

You are telling me that somebody goes to a basketball game for what happens during media timeouts and halftime?  I though people went to basketball games to see basketball.

For the ncaa to burn a year of eligibility when a player played under a court ruling would be very wrong.

The court ruling would have only applied to the one person at West Virginia who brought the suit.  Without the stipulation one game played by someone else could have cost a year of eligibility.

Free tuition and a minimum wage for all athletes is the absolute least the NCAA should be able to provide. Minor league baseball players got treated like dirt for years until they recently unionized - there's no reason why college athletes can't do the same.

First the NCAA would not be providing anything to the athletes, it would be the individual schools.

Do you count the value of the education and fees as income against "minimum wage" payments.  That would require taxes to be paid.  Where does an 18 year old get the money to pay taxes on the value of their education?  Think about a kid at Duke.  Where do they get the money to pay taxes on over $60,000.00?

As for unionizing, only 14 FBS schools are subject to the National Labor Relations Act.  The rest are public employers and only subject to their individual state laws on employer-employee definitions and unionization.

Have you also taken into account all of the extra expenses that go along with students being employees?  For example New York State employees vest for a pension after five years of employment.  Do the athletes qualify for a pension and lifetime health insurance like of New York employees?  How much will it cost schools to cover all of their athletes for workers' compensation benefits?

This would not be limited to football and basketball teams.  It would have to apply to all teams.  Furthermore, everything that wants people give these benefits to Division I athletes, the same relationship between schools and athletes apply at Division II and Division III schools as well, as it relates to employer-employee relationship.

  12. The number of players who end up nowhere or in lower divisions, where the never wanted to play has been high the last few years.  When the payers realize they may never play again at the FBS level they will start to stay and play.  IT will take time for the see to the numbers as this has just started.  After a few years the experience of time will helpful bringing this to an end.

UB moving to D-I was a complete fluke that no one was asking for.

Not true. Within weeks of UB dropping to D-III in 1977 people were already talking about UB getting back to the D-I level.  When the Run to Division I was put into effect the idea was to go what was then D-IAA football.  The building of the stadium for the World University Games was the key to getting back to Division I.

What was not planned was the move to D-IA, that was decided when President Greiner got the offer to move into the MAC.
