If highest mid season for some reason is more important to you, Bowling Green made it up to #7 during the 62’ season. They finished #8.  They stated at #8 in the preseason poll that year as well.

That team had two future NBA players on the  team.  One was Howie "Butch" Komives, whose biggest claim to fame was being traded by the Knicks to the Pistons for Dave DeBusschere., that led to the great championship Knick teams of the  early 70s.  The other was future Hall of Famer Nate Thurmond, who played the early part of his career in the shadow of Russell and Chamberlain and the end in the shadow of Abdul-Jabbar.  Thurmond was a great center.

Ha, I have no affiliation with the city or any bar, restaurant, site, etc.   Born and raised in Mobile and just happy to help out those making the long trip to spend some time down here.

My wife's family is from Grand Island, NY and Orchard Park so I'm familiar with Buffalo.  Awesome place to visit in the summer.

    Even better in winter!

    Barclays or MSG.

If done as part of a Alumni event that reaches out to the NY Metro alumni base, it shouldn't be a problem.

Remember, you're not playing a off brand team.  You will be playing a brand name team that will draw their own fans too.

LIU-Brooklyn and St Francis have hosted home games at Barclays.  LIU hosted Niagara there.

Saint Louis and Pitt just played there.  You don't think Saint Louis has more local alumni and fans than UB, do you?

Yes, it would take a commitment from multiple departments and is not the type of thing Buffalo has been willing to do in the past but it can be successful.

St. Louis and Pitt played there as part of a tournament like UB played in Belfast.  It was not them scheduling a home game there.

Gonzaga said it took 10-12 years of winning before they could schedule home games.  The closest they got was scheduling a game in Seattle, which would be like UB scheduling a home game in NYC.  So maybe that's what is needed.  Schedule a home game in NYC and then get a top-100 team to agree to that.

And exactly where would this "home" game be played?  Taking a wide definition of New York City, from MSG to Barclays to the Nassau County Mausoleum Coliseum  to the Prudential Center which one of these facilities would be cheap enough to guarantee that UB would break even on the  road home game?

I agree, but for some reason the local UB students (which there are plenty of) don't seem to support the sports teams when school is not in session. When I was a student, it seemed that most of the biggest student fans were not from the Buffalo originally.

The night before Thanksgiving would be a tough night for local students to go to a game.  It has become a huge night for college students to go out with all of their friends as the come home for the holiday weekend.  All the locals who went away are home for the first time and they all go out.

Doesn't help the Sabres were home at the same time. Considering that, the crowd was excellent. Gotta try to avoid those conflicts.

I do not think that basketball and hockey fans are they same market in Buffalo.  If they were, either the Braves would still be in Buffalo or both teams would be gone.

5 Seasons ago at least two things happened.
    1) SMU moved from the C-USA to the American (better opponents)
    2) SMU renovated their arena with a focus on improving premium seating and hospitality options.
    3) SMU won 77% more games.

So based on SMU some combination of better opponents, arena improvements and winning is probably what we need.

Around that time SMU hired Larry Brown and he brought a lot to the program that increased interest, until they found violations.

That is the reason no one will go to the Carrier Dome.   You can't share a football, basketball, and lacrosse facility.  The people will revolt and not show up in protest.

If it is one thing we know about people of Western New York it's that they are accustomed to fine things.  When you live a life of luxury, you expected to have the best arena in the world and wouldn't be caught seen in anything less!

From what I remember the Sabres drew pretty well in the Aud.  I believe the Aud at the end was a dump.  I had a chance to be on the floor when Gonzaga had a walk through in 1997 and the floor had more dead spots than the meadowlands has dead bodies in it.

I am fine with AA, my thoughts were on outside perception, of the multipurpose gym. It is fully functional, unlike UBS. I feel outside of the functional issues of UBS, the perception of it as "not a real college football stadium" also hurts community fan engagement. Sometimes, you have to look the part.

Well the World's Most Sexist Famous Arena, Madison Square Garden, is a multipurpose gym.  Basketball, hockey, tennis, concerts, dog shows, political conventions and more.  So multipurpose is not really a problem for getting people to a venue.

The Defense was downright putrid. The roster should roll from that game. Brandon Williams #14 allowed 3 TDs on his own, the guy has been super bad.

Jackson looked terrible. He missed every throw and decided to try to make the NFL last night throwing deep every play. Brutal gameplan by Borland/LL.

The biggest worry is that NIU BEAT Ohio. That's a scary thought for the MACC.

And UB beat Miami who beat Ohio.  Which means we should have beaten Ohio.  So I am not worried that Northern Illinois beat Ohio.  Last time in UB was in Detroit, Ball State was undefeated and 12th in the nation.  Hoe did that work out?

Its always the high school football playoffs at this time. Early rounds in the South/Southwest and semis/finals in the colder states.

Logistics with travel/coaches availability, etc aren't right to have early signing period at this time.

If you source isn't made up to not look quite as foolish. How did they not know that?

It's their job to know the information.  They made a mistake in giving the date to me.

I have not and never will make up anything that I have posted or will post and will usually link to the information I am posting.  It is very difficult to put a link to a conversation with a person.
