I’m no economist, but I have to imagine the $$ their men’s and women’s programs bring in from TV, merch sales, etc would offset a good a chunk of that.  That is, after the Big East gets their cut.

Nope. The athletic dept runs a $40-50 million deficit, even after all that. The university covers the deficit to balance the books.

I always hated them too, but now one of my kids goes there and all the winning has started to grow on me 😂

The winning vibe/culture/pride is palpable around campus, something it would be nice to see at UB if we could ever get it together  on that kind of level. 🤘

The university subsidizes the UConn athletic dept to the tune of $40-50 million per year bc they deem it important. It’s just priorities.

Wow, Ogden is a surprise. The other 2 maybe not as much since freshman and transfers are coming in at their positions. That opens things up a bit.

in other news, Syracuse women is losing one of their solid freshman to the portal too. Nobody is above the portal.

For someone like Hattie, I would think it has more to do with wanting to be re-recruited and see what your market is rather than unhappiness.

    D1 limits are 15 for women’s basketball.

If all of the roster and coaching movement is done, this is a massive win for Burke and she absolutely proved me wrong. Portal is still open for about a month, but so much happens early on. Retaining the MAC FOTY and the conference’s top scorer (who I have to think has a degree by now, meaning transfer without sitting out is a possibility) is also huge.

Again, any player can transfer infinity times without having to sit out. Graduate or not.

We had a lot of talent on the field, but much less on the sideline. We kept 95% of the team and all the recruits. I really think this could be an 8 win team given the improved staff

    I’d settle for a non-conference win to start 😂

That’s why I don’t understand the urge to remove the track when we don’t know if we will have the sport. I can’t imagine any SUNY school having millions to cover the worker’s compensation cost.

Almost all schools in the G5 down through FCS and Division 2 and 3 are in the same boat. Politicians won’t let that happen and the resulting Title 9 implications. Most student athletes don’t even want to be employees. Let’s just see where it goes.

No, when Graham was granted the ability to play this season, basically the court ruling said there can't be transfer sit-outs anymore so anyone can go anywhere, anytime regardless of previous transfers or what year you are in. It's currently the wild west. Maybe it will change, but it will be a court ruling and I'm sure everyone already in the portal will be protected.

Only restriction upheld was they can’t transfer in-season and be eligible immediately.

  8. Their Blue A collective is substantial and has many former athletes playing a role like Jordan Love. Their HC was also a successful former HC at Montana State prior to his job now, not a rookie. He’s also making $900k, more than twice what Halcovage III is making. Not an excuse as this year was an abomination, but the Utah State coach is more the exception than the rule, he did kill it this year and it’s an open secret he’s headed to Washington after this season ends.

As a university they also seem to prioritize athletics as their “front porch”. SUNY clearly does not.
