We've had players that flash excitement. We've had games that flash excitement (I was at the Ball State game in Muncie and thought "hey, maybe I can get behind this team). We have not had an exciting team (one that makes you think they can win games of consequence) in 4 years. IMO there's a difference between a fan like you who understands the game and can see potential in statistical categories like efficiency and then there is the general public/donor base that says "I want to support a winning program". We are currently seeing what happens when the latter is left unsatisfied.

And this department will just keep saying "but we need donors!" after spending 4 without putting an exciting team on the floor. "Hey, we just got turned down by 3 straight coaches... care to throw us a couple hundred grand?" They do nothing to support the ask. No effort, no accountability, no hope for the future.

This is why "just give him a chance" doesn't play out. Mediocrity left us with no donor base, no energy from the department and no interest in the job. What a travesty of a hire (they I desperately wanted to defend)

I have to assume the department is feeling some shock from this as well. How long does a re-group take? Do they have to start interviews again? How fast are they slinging out offers? Were these denials done days ago but we're just learning about them? How many offers can they realistically make? This sucks.

I'm trying to imagine a scenario where a coaching search could go worse...

Do they even have a list left? The plan was to have somebody named by Final Four weekend. Are they just going to mail merge offers out and hope somebody responds?

This search went from anxiety to a complete embarrassment that is going to lead to, at best, a 4th choice leading a team with a downward trajectory. This is an absolute dumpster fire of a job by the AD.

No matter how you cut it we're clearly not a program that is able to go out and get the guy they want. 2 hires in a row and we're targeting 2nd, 3rd choices late.

At least legally speaking this is more like driving to Wegmans in a nicer car and maybe a better outfit. That $200 is maybe $100 at best after Whitesell through away our cache.

I get that YSU isn't a basketball mecca but he's not exactly coaching against the greatest teams so I would expect more than 1 finishes above 6th place in... 6 years. What should show us that he wouldn't come in and middle in the MAC given it would be essentially the same [geographic] recruiting base?

Yea, I have very little interest in Calhoun. No real success as HC outside of a decent single season in the Horizon League. Sounds like a fall back option to me and I agree if he's truly in the mix I am losing confidence in this hiring campaign.
