Great post. 2 wins is a step in the right direction but I still scratch my head at squeaking out a win at home against a not very good Ohio team. I don't need to win by 15 but there's no reason we should be giving up 2 25+ pt performances against a team without much overall talent. Hopefully this is a trend and I eat all of my negative words in this thread come March!

We beat a mediocre-at-best Miami (OH) team on the road. A win is great and hopefully a sign that we're headed in the right direction but I still see significant defensive issues and overall offensive flow and consistency has yet to be found. I'm hoping this is a step towards positive things but I apologize for not getting excited about winning a game we should have won after getting demolished by Ball State and losing to NIU at home...

Time to start another home MAC win streak.

This (very young) fanbase is fickle. 3 years of struggle would likely erase all of the momentum and cache that has developed since the Hurley hire. Community support was just arriving and I think we're already going to see it leave, after ONE PARTIAL SEASON OF STRUGGLES. Is this unfair to JW? Maybe.. probably, but it's the reality of where we are as a program IMO.

BIE and Kevin have both excused themselves from the thread let's try to limit discussion about them. Are we still able to make "new group, new coach, give him time" arguments with a rough game tonight?

Play with the "same defensive intensity" that he talked about in his opening presser. Figure out an offensive flow that puts our athletic talent in better positions (pass the damn ball with purpose). FIRE THIS TEAM UP AND MAKE THEM LOVE WINNING AND HATE LOSING WITH NO EXCEPTIONS.

We have 4, 3 have been at home and 2 were not close. Are we? What indications of that are you seeing?

Can somebody please talk me down the ledge on this hire? We kept JW largely for continuity - - players stayed and I commend him for that but what else has been positive? This team plays undisciplined, often uninspired basketball and the defense is atrocious in almost every facet. Roster changes happen and there are “growing pains” with a new coach but we now have 4 inexplicable, losses. There is NO excuse to get blown out by a MAC opponent after the 5 years of growth in this program. As a fan and a recurring donor I am, to say the least, incredibly disappointed to see our momentum fizzle our and I am getting concerned about the future. Please tell me that this is a knee-jerk reaction. I don’t like our trajectory. Desperately hoping this post gets saved and thrown in my face when things get “fixed”...

If that's what you want to say that you're doing in this thread and that you feel that your post is a productive contribution to the thread, go for it I guess. My point is that a thread was made about Whitesell's job so far this year. If people disagree with OPs original post it's far more interesting to have a discussion about the topic.

Why does every thread have to devolve into personal arguments? Can you all just stick to discussing the topic of the thread? That's how threads/topics work.

It's not that I would have expected us to be undefeated at this stage in the game. But are we really calling HOME losses to Dartmouth, Army and NIU "growing pains" or "consequence of rebuilding"? It's either coaching or lack of focus from the team IMO. These are inferior teams that we're losing to, at home. The other losses are fine, those 3 are concerning to me. I will be ecstatic if JW rights the ship but I do think the ship needs to be right-ed.

Can't come out of the gate 0-2 in the MAC... Hopefully others have some more constructive input than I do right now lol

MAC play begins. NIU comes in just over .500 without any impressive wins on their resume. They "hung" with Pit (lost by 9 in a low scoring affair) Slow down German and find some offensive rhythm against a defensive minded team and start 1-0. Go Bulls.
