Mballa has to start. Bertram has to earn his minutes. He certainly should not vault into the starting lineup—especially if it means displacing Mballa.

Yeah, can't see Brock starting in his first game of the season. Maybe after he's proven himself in game action and we face teams with a distinct size advantage, which NIU doesn't have. James is their tallest player at 6'9" and their only real scoring threat in the post. He could get some good minutes though if German starts getting to the rim at will on us.

    Wahoo! 9-4 Baby.

Enjoy these wins, everyone. This is fun, even if it isn’t as dominant as last year!

I'll take it! We didn't start or finish this game well at all but did enough good things overall to get the W. Great to see Graves looking like his old self and Mballa was huge in the paint, especially taking Osunnyi out.

It may have been ugly, but a clean sweep of WNY teams is always a beautiful thing!

  3. Ouch, glad I missed this one. This team has a lot of work to do. Seemed coming into the season that we'd have a deeper squad than last year, but it's really not looking that way. On a day like this where Segu is off, chances are about the only thing we're getting from our bench is fouls, turnovers, and missed shots.

Hello everyone. I'm a UB grad - live 5 miles from Dartmouth, and I'm well familiar with their men's basketball team, though I'm more of a hockey/football fan.

I was out of town all weekend and didn't check any scores.  At noon today I turned on the local sports talk radio, and I almost sprayed my coffee all over the dash.

    That is all.

I think Dartmouth could surprise in the Ivy this year, veteran team who was better than their record last season. Great year for the football team so far too.

Wow this was bad, unbelievably bad. And it wasn’t Dartmouth they weren’t doing anything special, it was us. How many wide open layups? So many players looked horrible, Jeenathan and Segu did not look good at all. Graves had a rough game even though I have confidence he’ll be fine. Besides Mballa, all our big men are soft. It’s just one game yes I get it, and yes not end of world. But boy we have no one on this team like Nick Perkins who can just get buckets when the outside shot not falling. This team has no chance against Harvard I just don’t see us winning that game unless we shot absolutely lights out.

Damn good thing we got the waiver for Mballa. I shudder to think how screwed we'd be in the post otherwise. Might still be on nights he gets in foul trouble.

I’m not sure those are the best five. I want to see more of Segu. Why not, nothing else is working.

I just think this team doesn’t have a go-to guy. Whether someone emerges during the year remains to be seen but we need someone to if we want to go anywhere.

Jordan's trying to be that guy right now. If only he had the same confidence from the free throw line as he does from 3.

It’s nice to see that Jordan apparently didn’t spend the summer working on free throws at all.

Looks worse than last year, didn't think that was even possible. Sloppy play from the team overall on both ends. Someone needs to show some leadership here and get this turned around fast.

  8. Excited to see how the team comes together! Particularly interested in how Mballa and Hardnett handle things in the paint. My expectation is that Dartmouth won't be able to do much if any damage underneath against them. They will be bombs away from 3 though so it could be a close game for a while if we don't lock down the perimeter.

Any ideas if the game will be broadcast anywhere else besides just the SEC network like ESPN+?

I believe games on SEC Network are always on ESPN+ as well. At least it has been that way for any I have tried to watch on there.

  10. Fact is, we really don't know what we're getting from just about anyone except Graves and Jordan until the games begin. We have newcomers with very good reason to believe will be strong contributors or better (Johnson, Nickelberry, Hardnett, Mballa if eligible), returning guys who should take a big step forward (Williams, Segu), and bigger unknowns/wild cards from there. Grant and especially Bertram, however encouraging their showings in practice, have a lot to prove but should get their chance to do so.

  11. The high-end talent may not be what it was the last few years, but we should definitely have more overall depth and versatility with this group (even without Mballa). Excited to see what the coaching staff can mold this into. True dominant bigs may give us trouble but there aren't many (if any) of those in MAC and I like our chances to get it done again come March.

I disagree completely.  Best site out there.  Barttovik is just using an algorithm, and putting out projections based on very limited data in a lot of circumstances for some 300+ d1 programs and some thousands of d1 players for offseason fodder.  But is probably one of the best sites for comparing said 300+ programs once the actual games and actual data is around to compare.  Wanna win some money come March, visit this site.

Fair enough, will see how it does once the games begin. As of now though, I see a lot of teams with projections on players who either aren't on the roster anymore or won't be eligible this season. Nothing quite like the Nickelberry duplicate, though 😂

We know he had an opportunity with at least the Mavs and I wonder what the decision making process was to go with the Nets. I feel CJ would have fit better with the Mavs NBA roster and gotten more opportunity in the summer league. Nets have probably 6 guys on their roster that will be regulars in the NBA and the Mavs have.. maybe 2?

It's a shame, he ended up on a much better "team" than Perk for summer league but got much less of an opportunity to show off his talents. Hopefully some team out there will still give him a solid chance in Europe or otherwise.
