Might want to re-phrase this. They are D1 athletes in major conferences, so to say that none of the NIL is for their athletic ability is false. They wouldn't be in the position they're in now if not for their athletic ability.

Once NIL became official, academics started to matter less. Athletes are now going to college for money (even though they are already receiving scholarships and stipends on top of it).

What it means is recruiting for mid majors has changed My thinking is you recruit up tell these kids they can start as a freshman. If there are as good as they think they can transfer and get the big bucks, then. The mid major coach who has the right message can recruit higher rated talent and will succeed. It will be like the one and done high majors just with a different carrot for these kids. We are not going to see 4-year kids playing for mid majors.

People keep saying this, but this isn't pro sports where we need to tank for a high draft pick. There is literally no reason that this team should be the worst in UB history by a wide margin. Is the idea that the recruiting gets easier after the mystery of what could be is gone and Halcovage is just a coach leading a team coming off of (what we can hope is) a 5 win season? Spoiler alert: even without a coaching change there is no guarantee that any of these players are here next year. We are not rebuilding anything currently. Next year Halcovage will be rebuilding from the depths that he has plummeted the program to. If he thinks rebuilding is recruiting off a 15 win season then he is about to find out what rebuilding is.
