  1. I guess Akron is getting excited and thinks we will be ranked.
  2. Just read the ESPN Preview and rolled my eyes at a statement that BG head coach Michael Huger said in regards to his loss against Miami (OH). "It's hard when you get on a 10-game winning streak to sustain that intensity that you have to play with," Bowling Green head coach Michael Huger said after the loss to Miami. "We are taking team's best shots." http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/preview?gameId=401088407 Take a step back now, I am pretty sure you aren't getting every team's best shot. That luxury is for the only ranked team in the MAC P.S. Wow, once you are ranked I can see where arrogance starts kicking in.
  3. Buffale News Rachel Lenzi. Wrote an article on Dontay that I thought was interesting, highlighting the transition to more of a defensive mind. https://buffalonews.com/2019/02/01/dontay-caruthers-ub-mens-basketball-defensive-specialist-mac/
  4. BG coming off a bye and had a week to recover. Even with that rest, I can see them being gassed in the last 35 minutes if we are able to play at our tempo. (Let's hope the refs aren't trigger happy) BG isn't really deep with the most minutes to their top 3 guys. I guess it depends what defense shows up to see how they handle Turner. Is it the defense against Kent (Walker - 21 points) or Ball State (Persons - 6 points)? Either way, should be a good game. Not sure what BG's crowd will be like but I am expecting the place to be rocking.
  5. People in front and behind me are older alumni who struggle walking up the steps to get to their seats. I am content with them not showing up for the game when the weather outside is terrible. Safety first. We will have more home games this season. I have friends in NYC who barely watched games as a student, sending me pictures of them tuning in. Some guys in Houston as well. Loving the buzz we are getting
  6. Have they? Yes they bring NJ and NYC. But we bring all of Western NY. Did not know this. Thank you for sharing. It makes sense from the standpoint of the Big Ten that I did not think of.
  7. Beating a dead horse. Doesn't matter the name. If we win, people will follow. Our original name (when we failed starting in 1836) was the University of Western New York. Imagine if we kept that!
  8. I think we have more of a chance to apply for the Big Ten in my opinion. Top public universities similar size and in relevant areas. We would bring in the NYC market more than Rutgers (IMO). Rutgers is struggling right now. UB can capitalize.
  9. Students will be there tonight. As for general public, I dont know. I expecting a lot of the 300's filled but the season ticket holders will be empty. To be fair, it is pretty bad out right now.
  10. For those interested in tracking some ballots, Rachel Lenzi has been on top of it. I have been following her since she started. Definitely posting some good stuff/photos of games.
  11. So far, not too bad on some ballots for dropping too much. Let's hope we stay between 19-22
  12. I would agree with your prediction on ranking. I think we stay 22. Certainly hope we stay in the Top 25
  13. It would be crazy if this was the case and Bowling Green pulled off the upset and we would have UB vs Bowling Green playing for a Sweet 16 spot.
  14. You know, reading stories about NIU's victory is awesome. Yes, we lost it sucks but it needed to happen. But look at how much we are respected. People see us as a powerhouse. A year ago, I wouldn't have thought we would be where we are. This quote is what struck me: “When the opportunity comes along to play a team like (Buffalo) that’s ranked in the top 25 and play in front of the home fans and get a win like that, it’s a marquee win,” McCarty said. “It definitely means a lot for the program. (Beating Buffalo) gives us a sense that we belong and a certain level of respect we should be given.” Link: https://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/college/ct-spt-northern-illinois-buffalo-upset-20190124-story.html
  15. While some may think the sky is falling, Jay Bilas feels otherwise. He released his top 68 this morning 9. Buffalo Bulls This team is legit. With top scorer and shooter CJ Massinburg, lefty wing Jeremy Harris and super-sub Nick Perkins, the Bulls can beat anyone. Until they tripped at Northern Illinois on Tuesday, the only loss for Buffalo was at Marquette, when Markus Howard turned into a video game. The Bulls might not lose again until the postseason. If there is a non-Power 5 (or Gonzaga) that can reach the Final Four, look no further than Buffalo. 16. It was something like "Are you serious? Did you not see that?" To be honest, it was very hard to see and I think Coach Jack went at it because she saw how hurt Cierra was. That is uncharacteristic of her to act injured so I think Coach Jack jumped in. I thought it was a good game. Loved our fast style play. I was incredibly impressed by Hamilton and the guard play. It is going to be a real treat watching Hanna and Finess grow to the leaders of the program. I feel like the growth of Hanna from last year to this year is similar to Graves of the men's team.
  17. Akron coming off a two game losing streak with a loss to EMU and @NIU. This should be a game that we win. Dillard was pretty cold from shooting (6-25) against WMU but still brought in 16 points and stacked the Box Score. With that being said, she also averages 25 points per game. I expecting a 30 point showing from her tonight.
  18. Give credit where credit is due. NIU played fantastic last night. They brought their A game and we brought our C game. That is the reason we lost. Our offense was terrible last night. All of our guys were driving and forcing shots, which works only when the other team is tired and can't keep up. (Though I do not blame the refs whole heartedly, they were part of the reason that we weren't able to play at our pace.) Where did all these turnovers come from? Why are we forcing passes to covered players? How did our offense become so predictable all of a sudden? We only had 11 assists last night! We average 17 and had 25 against Toledo for our home opener. Speaking of offense, how about our defense? Before anyone jumps on the refs bandwagon, there were times where our players were flat footed against German and Thorpe. We are the more athletic team. We have to act like it. And McRea, stop biting the 3 fake from a big man that shoots 3 3-pointers a game. Let him take it. Because if you take the fake that means they have a mismatch going to the basket. I am not ready to say the sky is falling but the difference between how we normally play and the last 3 games have been worrisome. I would be content with a loss to Kent as long as we play to our normal standard/play. Though if we do, I don't think Kent can hang around.
  19. Say what you want about Barstool but it looks like they are high on the Bulls. They are talking about sports betting for today's games and then throw in a bold claim: Starts at around the 1:24 mark about UB.
  20. Saw this article and thought it was interesting. https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2815904-could-buffalo-become-the-next-gonzaga-of-mens-college-basketball
  21. I agree that basketball needs its own practice facility. Is the Ed Wright gym something that Oats wants? As for student facilities. If you haven't heard, UB is in a campaign called Boldly Buffalo to raise $650 million. Each unit has it's own priorities. Athletics is Here: http://www.buffalo.edu/campaign/priorities-and-goals/UB-athletics.html One of the priorities is endowing head coaching positions, which makes sense. Another is upgrading facilities and adding a strength and conditioning center (which the RFQ for that development was posted on NYS website). Back to the main point, students use the Ed Wright facility and main gym. Here is Student Life campaign priorities: http://www.buffalo.edu/campaign/priorities-and-goals/student-life.html Notice the #1 priority (according to the website) is a new wellness center that has fitness areas and courts within it. (Location between Commons and Greiner Hall, close RMA!). This will free up alumni arena (if done correctly)
  22. He also talks a TON of trash too. Probably part of the reason Holiday and him were screaming at each other at WMU
  23. Seems as if CBS Sports has grown fond of the Bulls. Here is their latest Basketball Power Rankings. Has UB at #9 https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/college-basketball-power-rankings-michigan-up-to-no-2-after-duke-falls-and-michigan-state-jumps-into-the-top-five/ 9 BUFFALO ⤴️ Last week: No. 11. It's not just because Buffalo sits at 16-1 that it's cracking my top 10. (And you won't see more respect for the Bulls anywhere else, I can promise you.) Nate Oats' team has nine wins away from home and is plus-5.2 in turnover margin, which rates top-five in America. In the MAC, which is arguably performing collectively as the best non-Major 7 conference this season, UB has won its first four league games by an average of 19.8 points. My prediction for Selection Sunday is this team getting a No. 5 seed. Also, looks as if they are shooting some video material and interviews on campus with players and Nate.
  24. Three ball. That is the only way that I think they win. When the shoot the ball well, it opens up the inside for the big guys to take helm. They don't shoot the three ball as much as we do but still. With all that said, we beat EMU because they got gassed. I am expecting a lot of ball movement around the perimeter to start tiring the guards. I also think that our team will be fired up to bounce back from that WMU game. 98-72 Bulls. Going up 8 at halftime and pulling away with 10 minutes left. We go up by over 30 but they end up trimming the deficit. Too precise?
