  1. People I know didn't like Jim because his teams ran terrible iso offense with no movement and he brought in increasingly shitty mercenary players. But you're right, his teams were also very low energy and fell miles short of the "blue collar" ideal. That doesn't mean what we're seeing now isn't orders of magnitude worse, but the revisionist history doesn't help matters.
  2. Unfortunately agreed, but if he goes on to have a long NBA career I think he'd be deserving. Local kid too. We're staring down a serious drought in honor-worthy numbers post glory years if things don't change.
  3. Between him, Doty, and Cooper it seems like the staff is definitely targeting shooting and guard scoring. I am a bit surprised there aren't more offers for him among West Coast mid majors.
  4. Uptown Hibachi is an excellent nickname with potential for NIL opportunities with the many Asian restaurants around North Campus.
  5. Happy to agree that the refs made a blunder here not handing out matching techs, which was the obvious call. https://youtu.be/an0bVaTjF_Y?si=BpL4dq-dUnwHIU50
  6. Couple highlights from #7 in this package from just across the Peace Bridge. https://www.instagram.com/p/C3Vfh5iufDa/?igsh=MW9nM3FmeXpmd2Z3Zg==
  7. Ahh, Mets fan. I get a kick out of his cartoonish exasperation over teams I don't care for (especially the Dolphins, Devils, indifferent about Mets), but I totally understand it being unbearable if it overlaps with your own real passion. I enjoy him and Rico and any of the other wrestling/shock jock-style guys at Barstool because I treat them like the fictional characters that they largely are. Not sure I'd be able to share a 30-minute Uber ride locked in with either though. But then again, I'd take either of them over Nate Geary or Sneaky Joe any day of the week so 😂 Point remains though, Hodgson gets current college basketball as well as anyone today. He's a hustler, he was Nate's bag man, and my guess is he'll be HC at a second tier P5 after two more seasons.
  8. Lol what's your beef with the Tank?
  9. Say what you will, but Hodgson understands college kids, marketing, virality, etc. Never in a million years would we bring in some popular sports joker personalities for a big conference matchup. Our game presentation is too busy blaring Cotton Eye Joe at the couple hundred septuagenarians that make up our crowds.
  10. I'll defend this all day. First, it was hilarious. Second, he had three (3!) NIU players standing over him, verbally and physically taunting him after a big poster. I've seen show-ups 25% as bad as that T'd up this season. The fact that we came out of that exchange with the technical is laughable. I don't put this loss on him at all.
  11. If anyone living outside NYS has been betting on UB instead of hammering their opponents, well there's a phone number for that. We're 8-15 against the spread, better than I'd have guessed but miserable still. I had some optimism carried over from last game, so it was disappointing to lose to a bad team in that fashion. Honestly I didn't watch closely, it was a bad basketball game that didn't hold my attention. Adams and Chatman missing a bunch of FTs down the stretch is awful. I have to think Adams' injury derailed his whole season because his regression has been stark. His stroke is dead in the water. I won't be upset if he grad transfers. McVeigh and Wilson both look to be settled and developing slightly. Nothing impressive, but they're not lost causes heading into next year. Fulcher has a ton of juice and is playing to his strengths finally, so credit him and the coaches there. He's a nice piece moving forward. Boldin is too. The roster needs a ton of work. A transfer replacement alpha for Sy, a transfer big to have at least one rostered, a few combo guards that can handle and shoot. Brayden Jackson is a nice wing commit from Fort Erie. The rest may well be JUCO or transfers, we need to get competitive ASAP.
  12. Looking pretty good and GSU looks pretty bad, we should win this. #analysis
  13. Definitely needed his defense on the court to communicate and play with connected intensity. And yeah some of that comes from the bench. I'm Mr. Jimmy's and Joe's, believe me. I think the most important part of coaching is recruiting good players and developing their talents in practice. But maximizing a group's intensity, passion, energy is also important. A lot of games are toss ups that tilt on the little things controlled by energy. The "blue collar" scorecard (I know, my bad). No one's saying that energy guarantees success, example Hurley, but you better have some naturally intense guys on the squad if the coach doesn't bring it.
  14. Hmm. This was yesterday... All of the coaches you listed are fairly firey, so we may just disagree on the definition of the characteristic. Sure they're not always going wild, but they blow gaskets on refs and players multiple times per season. Dan Hurley, Bruce Pearl, Oats, Izzo, K, the list goes on and on. Whitesell's teams and benches were very quiet and unanimated. Sure he'd bark some instructions and flap his arms a few times, but his teams had terrible chatter on D and were marred by low energy. The crowds were also dead. Halcovage's are even more so. Nothing to do with age, obviously. It's not a requisite for a good coach, but unless you're a master tactician, you'd better find a way to instill passion in your guys. We've been flat for five years now.
  15. Picked up another commit. WR from Chicagoland/Indiana. https://x.com/UBFootball/status/1755375835278631403?s=20 https://www.instagram.com/p/C3EMlNeOUcr/?igsh=dG54aTZtNmI3eWw5
  16. Walk-ons, what are those?! 🙃 We're his only offer per VC.
  17. Rough one. Eight available players with only two injuries is kind of embarrassing. It's a disservice to the guys who played tonight, who I thought battled pretty hard. Sabol is one of the better freshmen shooters in the modern era at UB. Fulcher has tools to be a useful player once the game slows down for him. That's all I got.
  18. Putting this troll on ignore. Anyone who cares about the discourse here is welcome to follow suit.
  19. You're a clown man. Good luck promoting the semi-pro team.
  20. Engaging someone in bad faith and then abandoning the conversation when called out is most certainly a YOU problem.
