ESPN has him rated as a 3 star recruit. Usually 3 star prospects have more offers than just the three others. Great job by the staff finding him. Don’t think I’ve ever seen a 3 star so lightly recruited since Jalen Pickett (yes I know I’m a Siena alum) but it’s incredibly rare

Rated 7th best player in Virginia, that wingspan is insane!

His team is really stacked and young. Seems to be a top of the scoresheet every game, surprised nobody else offered him unless his game really took off this year in particular. I saw one of his teammates is committed to Harvard.
from what I’ve read and watched he’s a three point shooter, whether it’s spot up or pick and pop. Has really good range and decent ball handle. He’s Collin Gillespie type player

Isn’t Jay Wrights offense a lot of ball screens? Players like Gordon could thrive in that, especially if they like to shoot the two pointers

Raw skill + Correct system + Chip for being overlooked = Potential stud
Look what CJ and Perkins were able to do when surrounded by the right opportunities.
Jason Preston as well. Saw that he’s averaging more points in AAU than in HS. Not uncommon but it gives you the sense that he’s actually “good” and can score against decent competition. He also has a fairly clean shooting stroke. Hopefully we land him, definitely a person I can see being loyal to the program. Interested in seeing who else we offer, will get a sense of what Coach is looking for in a player

Says he's a Senior class of 2023, so would assume he would a recruit the upcoming season.
Haha I totally read right over that lol. I did some digging, people seem to think he’s pretty damn good. He’s played really well in some showcases and is considered a “sleeper”. I trust George with his recruiting. He’s seen some great recruits in his time

From what I see on film he’s a lot like Zid Powell, drives the rim hard and throws down some monster dunks. Also has some decent defensive abilities. Definitely someone I can see developing in a system. Looks like his team is fairly stacked. Have a 4 star guard on the team as well

First one I have heard. 6'6", 180lb, 12 games, 1.5 ppg, 0.3apg, 0.3rpg
Diamond in the rough or a good player on a stacked team? Team is 29-3 and 12-0 in conference, so it may be full of D1 talent.
Could be a combo of both, not sure what year he is

Rumors I hear is it always comes down to cost and facilities. From what I understand club hockey is just as good as D1 at large schools too.
I played ACHA hockey for Siena, the talent in our league was incredible. Probably not d1 good but we could definitely compete at the d3 level. ACHA is a lot like the NAIA, under recruited players who are absolute “dogs” as some would say 😂

This is unrelated but I saw today that Binghamton might be adding a D1 hockey team
I wish we could get one lol
I’d love to see D1 hockey at UB, would keep some High level talent from the Buffalo and Rochester area around. Surprised Oswego isn’t in the mix for a d1 hockey program, they’re better than some d1 programs.
On a UB basketball note lol… hoping to hear some offers and 🤞a transfer/commitment this week. Hopefully Halcovage becomes a bit more open in his recruiting efforts.

We could go undefeated in every sport and win every MACC and National title and you would still find a way to complain and make thinly veiled backhand compliments about how UB is only a public school for the poors and we should just be happy our basketball hoops have nets.
We should be happy we have D1 athletics, very few SUNY schools do. The University at Buffalo is the poster child for SUNY, the only schools that come anywhere near close to UB’s pedigree is Stony Brook and Binghamton. I’d love to see UB go to a major conference but it’s not going to happen, unless we drop SUNY. And dropping SUNY I can’t see happening

I know it’s early into HC’s time here at Buffalo but I’m wondering how long it will take until we see some transfers/commitments? Gotta think he’s been making some calls. Hopefully coach Halcovage is a bit like Burke and tweets out something if a commitment is made. Hated that Whitesell had no energy online (as well as on the court)

It could be simply that Halcovage told Jack that he may not be a right fit, especially with the timing. @DooleyBull06 may be right, the quicker coach gets “his” types of guys here. The sooner we will be good
-
Liked what I heard from Halcovage. Short, sweet and to the point. Seems to have a ton of enthusiasm and a willingness to succeed. I’m intrigued to see the types of players he will bring in through the portal and the types of recruits he will go after. Seemed to hint that he’s already started his recruiting ventures. Also excited to see who he will bring in as assistants

Wonder if this gets Jeenathan’s jersey retired at Alumni? Second UB player to make the NBA, highest rated recruit and all around great player. He’s making Buffalo and his hometown/city of Rochester proud

Dickinson’s never coming to UB so it’s a moot point. But hypothetically I think he’d have a much more positive effect on the Bulls’ win total than Bates had on EMU’s.
As long as we’re being hypothetical and having some fun, if Dickinson did come to Buffalo I’d put the over/under on MAC wins at about 13.5 and I’d venture to guess UB wouldn’t go 0-6 vs the Top 3 teams.
Let’s turn jack into our Hunter Dickinson. Jack played really well as a true freshman, just needs to get a bit better defensively which comes with time for young centers.

I don’t know if I want Powell back. He was exciting and showed flashes of strength as an overall but seemed very focused on himself. Iona fans want him bad.
I feel the same, I liked his defensive abilities and of course his vicious dunks but he wasn’t the greatest team player. I could see him at Iona, they’ve been the Kings of the MAAC for a while. Really only St Peters and Siena are their biggest competitors. When I was at Siena, Iona always had a powerful guard who could drive the to the basket with authority. If their system doesn’t change with their new HC he’d be a perfect fit

How many of our guys that entered the portal have actually signed with other schools?

looks like Powell is close to transferring as well, getting some big time looks

Seeing Jalen Brunson, a guy I love watching for my NY Knicks, shouting him out is incredible

Would likely need to recruit an excellent staff but not a bad record. I literally just learned of his name but at a glance a bit less exciting than some other...
Being in the MAC he’d be able to recruit more higher end mid major talent than at Nicholls. However he did bring in a 4 star transfer SF the past season. He also heavily recruited JUCO players there, which is fairly common for low mid majors. Won the conference championship in 21 and 22. Was also voted the top coach in the Southland conference in 2021

90-60 head coaching career. Only 33 years old. I don’t mind this at all- 1

Is it to the point where Alnutt is going to have to get on his hands and knees and beg for someone to take the HC position?

15 years at Villanova and hand picked by Jay Wright to stay on after his retirement. Would be pretty wild hire and has recruiting ties where we would want to recruit. Maybe a couple Villanova portal guys come along for the ride? Too much? 😂
Only reason I think this is positive is due to recruiting and ties in the bball community. You’re exactly right, this would be a shocking hire but I’m for it if it gets us a new HC
