  1. btw - congrats to Tunney Murchie for his UB Athletics Hall of Fame induction! Let's take a look at those Hall of Fame stats!
  2. His kids run the show now and are already naming buildings after themselves: UB breaks ground on Brittany Murchie Mulla Sports Performance Center The Brittany Murchie Mulla Sports Performance Center will be connected to the west end of the Murchie Family Fieldhouse on the North Campus. Mulla is the daughter of UB alumni Tunney and Deanna Murchie. .... Brittany Murchie Mulla is an avid athlete and fitness enthusiast and competitor, who has pursued personal and professional interests that promote the value of lifelong health and wellness. Her extensive professional experience in the fitness industry includes certification as a personal trainer focusing on Pilates and rehabilitative exercise.
  3. DII or DIII coach won't make donors open their pocketbooks Meritocracy reigns supreme in wealthy circles - a failure with a good resume is always hired over someone without experience
  4. If it's Lester, that vague tweet from earlier in the week about UB announcing a head coach as early as tomorrow morning would make sense Have to wait until Green Bay is out of the playoffs - tomorrow would be the earliest they could announce him
  5. Tim Lester, former Western Michigan head coach and current analyst for the Green Bay Packers is under consideration:
  6. Got paid, stopped trying Ball State football coach Pete Lembo contract extended, pay raised $79,000 The Board approved a personnel report that included giving Lembo the title of associate athletic director, a contract extension and a $79,000 raise to set his salary at $475,000. Based on last year's contract information, that would put him in the upper echelon of coaching salaries in the Mid-American Conference, but the change in title will bring with it additional duties. Ball State coach Pete Lembo resigns, takes job on Maryland staff A Georgetown alumnus, Lembo coached at Lehigh and Elon before he was hired by the Cardinals ahead of the 2011 season. At Ball State, he compiled a 33-29 record and went 23-17 in the MAC. He led the Cardinals to consecutive winning seasons in 2012 and 2013, with Ball State going to bowl games in each. Lembo then signed a five-year contract extension following the 2013 season, but he has since experienced his two worst seasons, going 5-7 in 2014 and 3-9 this season.
  7. Buffalo Coaching Search: Coaches Who Would Be Good Candidates For Buffalo Football’s Head Coach Vacancy Former Syracuse Head Coach Dino Babers Dino Babers was recently fired from Syracuse, but he would be a good fit for Buffalo. He’s obviously been a head coach in the state of New York and has been a head coach in the MAC. Babers went 78-70 over eight seasons with the Orange, who made back-to-back bowl games for the first time in a decade at the end of his tenure. In two of his final three seasons at Syracuse, the program was in the top 25 in the FBS in total defense. Syracuse reached three bowl games with Babers as head coach. He also mentored seven All-Americans during his time there. Before that, he was the head coach at Bowling Green. The Falcons were 8-6 overall in his first year there in 2014, winning the MAC East, and went 10-3 in his second and final season there en route to a MAC Championship in 2015. He was also 19-7 in two seasons as Eastern Illinois’ head coach before that. He’s been an assistant at a variety of other places like UNLV (1988-89), Northern Arizona (1990), Purdue (1991-93), San Diego State (1994), Arizona (1995-2000), Texas A&M (2001-02), Pitt (2003), UCLA (2004-07), and Baylor (2008-11). If Babers desires to keep coaching, Buffalo should at least think about hiring him Toledo Defensive Coordinator Vince Kehres When considering coordinators in the MAC, Vince Kehres, who has head coaching experience, stands out. Not only has Toledo thrived as a team, the Rockets have also been successful on defense the past couple years. This past season, the Rockets were third in the league in scoring defense (20.3 points per game allowed) and sixth in total defense (331.8 yards per game allowed). The year before, they led the MAC and were 18th in the nation in total defense (326.1 yards per game allowed) and were 10th in the country in defensive passing efficiency and 12th in passing yards allowed (183 per game). In Kehres’ first season at Toledo in 2020, the Rockets were second in the conference in total defense (362.2 yards per game allowed) after finishing last (475.7 yards per game allowed) in 2019. The following year, the Rockets were first in the MAC in scoring defense with 21.8 points per game allowed and second in total defense with 349.7 yards per game allowed. They also ranked in the top three in other metrics like defensive pass efficiency and passing yards allowed (198.2 per game). Before Kehres went to Toledo, he worked his way up the ranks at his alma mater, Division III Mount Union. As the team’s head coach for seven seasons, he went 95-6, which was more wins than any other collegiate coach at any level during that time. He led Mount Union to national championships in 2015 and 2017. He worked with the team’s defensive line from 2000-03 and with the program’s offensive line in 2004 before becoming its defensive coordinator from 2005-12. He was Mount Union’s head coach from 2013-19. Kehres is obviously familiar with the MAC and has proven he can be a successful head coach. Tennessee Running Backs Coach Jerry Mack Jerry Mack’s resume includes time as a head coach and a coordinator. He’s also recruited and coached all across the country. Mack has been Tennessee’s running backs coach since 2021. This last year, the Volunteers were ninth in the country with 204.8 rushing yards per game. Before this, he was an associate head coach, offensive coordinator, and quarterbacks coach at Rice. He’s also been a head coach at North Carolina Central, a wide receivers coach at Memphis and South Alabama, an OC and quarterbacks coach at Arkansas-Pine Bluff, a passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach at Central Arkansas, and a wide receivers/tight ends coach at Jackson State. Mack certainly deserves to be a head coaching candidate for the Bulls. UNLV Offensive Coordinator Brennan Marion Brennan Marion was in just his first season as UNLV’s offensive coordinator in 2023. However, he’s done well with the Rebels and has other coaching experience as a coordinator. He also has some experience coaching on the eastern side of the country. Marion helped UNLV’s offense thrive in 2023. The Rebels were 22nd in the FBS in scoring offense with 34.4 points per game and were 42nd with 412.7 yards per game gained. Before this, Marion was a passing game coordinator at Texas in 2022, a wide receivers coach at Pitt in 2021, a wide receivers coach at Hawaii in 2020, an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at William & Mary in 2019, an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Howard in 2017 and 2018, and a running backs coach at Oklahoma Baptist in 2016. The expertise he brings would benefit Buffalo. Kansas Co-Offensive Coordinator Jim Zebrowski Jim Zebrowski was promoted to co-offensive coordinator at Kansas before this past season. He followed Jayhawks head coach Lance Leipold to Kansas from Buffalo, so maybe Zebrowski would be open to returning to the Bulls as their head coach. At Kansas, Zebrowski worked with Jalon Daniels and Jason Bean. Those two are top five in KU’s record books in career passing touchdowns and top 10 in career passing yards. He was Buffalo’s co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach previously from 2017-20. In 2018, he coached quarterback Tyree Jackson, who was the first player in Buffalo history to become the MAC Offensive Player of the Year and first quarterback to earn all-conference accolades. Jackson threw for 3,131 yards and 28 touchdowns, both single-season school records. In 2017, the Bulls set a school record with 3,490 passing yards with Zebrowski’s guidance despite starting three different quarterbacks. Before that, he was a quarterbacks coach at Minnesota (2011-15) and Northern Illinois (2010). If Zebrowski was willing to leave Kansas, he would make plenty of sense for Buffalo.
  8. First time I've seen Conlin's name show up:
  9. He just moved JCU to a lesser conference today after 35 years in the Ohio Athletic Conference:
  10. Buffalo football coaching job pluses, minuses and candidates after Maurice Linguist So what names could get in the mix? Kansas co-offensive coordinator Jim Zebrowski served in the same role at Buffalo under Leipold from 2017 to ’20, winning two division championships and developing quarterbacks like Tyree Jackson (the MAC’s 2018 offensive player of the year) and Kyle Vantrease. At Kansas, he has helped develop Jalon Daniels and Jason Bean, both of whom are top-five in Kansas history in touchdown passes. Zebrowski also has head coaching experience at Division III Lakeland, going 28-12 over four seasons and reaching the playoffs for the first time in school history. Toledo defensive coordinator Vince Kehres has developed one of the best defenses in the MAC. The Rockets finished 16th nationally in yards per play allowed. Before joining Toledo in 2020, Kehres was the head coach at Division III powerhouse Mount Union, posting a 95-6 record from 2013 to ’19 and winning two national championships. The last time Buffalo hired a D-III coach (Leipold), it worked out. John Carroll athletic director Brian Polian could be an interesting name to watch. Polian, who most recently coached LSU’s special teams in 2022, grew up near Buffalo and worked as a UB assistant in 1998 and from 2001 to ’03. He was Nevada’s head coach from 2013 to ’16, reaching two bowl games in four seasons. If he’s interested in getting back into coaching, perhaps this could be a fit for the son of former NFL general manager Bill Polian. Illinois wide receivers/assistant head coach George McDonald has coached at three different MAC schools throughout his career. The Illinois native has been with the Illini since 2021 and was Syracuse’s offensive coordinator from 2013 to ’14, so he has experience in Upstate New York. Syracuse quarterbacks coach Nunzio Campanile is a Northeast guy. A longtime New Jersey high school coach who won a state title in 2017, he moved up to Rutgers from 2018 to ’22, twice serving as the interim head coach. He joined Syracuse last season and was retained by new head coach Fran Brown. Kansas analyst Joe Dailey is a New Jersey native who coached at Buffalo in 2008 and ’09. He spent 2022 in the NFL as the Carolina Panthers’ wide receivers coach and previously coached at Boston College, New Mexico and Liberty. Would former Syracuse head coach Dino Babers be interested? Babers was let go in November after eight seasons. He only reached two bowl games but won five games three times. He has MAC experience, going 18-9 as Bowling Green’s head coach from 2014 to ’15, winning a MAC championship, and he posted a 12-2 season at Eastern Illinois before that. Albany head coach Greg Gattuso is coming off an 11-4 season in which the Great Danes reached the FCS semifinals. He has had more losing seasons than winning ones at Albany but has won at least nine games twice in the last five years. He also went 97-32 as Duquesne’s head coach from 1993 to 2004 with eight conference titles. The 61-year-old Penn State alum has also coached at Maryland and Pitt. Syracuse offensive coordinator Jeff Nixon just joined the Orange after four years in the NFL with the Giants and Panthers, where he coached players like Saquon Barkley and Christian McCaffrey. The Rochester, Pa., native played at Penn State and was Baylor’s play caller for the 2019 team that won 11 games and played for the Big 12 championship and Sugar Bowl.
  11. Starting to get a feeling they picked Polian weeks ago and all the unsolicited "HEY WHAT ABOUT BRIAN POLIAN?" tweets are just his idiot St. Francis friends trying to drum up support He's white and Catholic, so I'm sure UB Horns Up will be creaming himself UB Basketball and Football both coached by nepo babies - what a world
