Akron is better than those teams but I don't know if any of them are teams I would want to avoid

The loss to akron, was a quick schedule change plus no mballa or Fagan and a still injured hardnett.

It's akron in Cleveland though. Have you been when they are playing? That's always a game to avoid. I think UB wins, but they could use Ball State.

For the first round as of right now is there that big a difference between akron ball st and miami?

What seed id like to be is really based on who is the 1 and who is the 2

I think so. Akron is better than both of them.

UB is 0-1 vs Akron, 2-0 Ball State, 1-1, Miami

the 3 seed path is the right fit for this team specifically, in my opinion

In my opinion (in honor of BSF) as someone who doesn't post during the games but reads it after the game, there are a lot of observations:

    1.  It is true -- you see the glass less than half full almost all the time (even when it is half full).  All games have ebbs and flows.  It is a known that the bench is weak and there will be ebbs when they are in -- and flat lines on the game flow, but the starters can't play 40 minutes.

    2.  There are some rose-colored glasses posters here during the game threads, that's for sure.  And they go out of their way to comment positively on certain aspects...perhaps they see the glass as 3/4 full (or more) when it is half full.

    3.  You are 100% right about the "Told Ya So" posts from some (typically one, but sometimes more than that) individuals.  That has been happening all season, though.  It's what they do.  With this 7 game win streak (that, I know, we all are happy about), that individual (those individuals) are out in full throat.    Once again, the "ignored users" option has been a great addition to this site.

    4.   There is a huge common ground that most posters have, but it seems that the disagreements (albeit small) are the ones that run the narrative.

    5.  At least there is alot of action during the game threads. That's a positive.  Perhaps it can be less combatitive, however.

    Go Bulls!

I agree with most of this. 3, 4 and 5 are particularly true.

The problem i have is with number 1 though.

"It is a known that the bench is weak and there will be ebbs when they are in" - Part of the argument here is that some people do not agree or think this. It's actually been frequently discussed that the bench is as good or better than other teams. I think that opens the bigger debate to.... why is the bench weak? And that opens up a can of worms on missed recruits and need to show Oats had misses too, albeit, way more hit. The problem here that I have is that the current best players on this team are Oats players and Whitesell's are only through Hunter Jenkins who is no longer here. He has only hit two players, Mballa (Jenkins recruit/forged documents) and Skogman (under Jenkins again).  So believe it or not, the bench and further discussion is the point you are referring to with #4.

Was not aware that Western managed to lose 14 games in a row this year. Hopefully this isn't the Josiah Freeman revenge game (he's having a dreadful season looking at his stats). @skrabukes feel free to put your feet on my buddy sitting in my seats, I'll be at Pitt-Georgia Tech.

They have somehow beat Akron and CMU back-to-back

We’re not catching Ohio, so yes but seeding is meh as BB pointed out.

You want Ohio to win. Almost no chance you can catch them.

Its pretty important to try to get the 3 seed as the path is probably way better.

I was also going to make a joke that I had to pick between watching UB EMU at noon or getting a root canal. I got a root canal, and I can say watching UB EMU would have been much preferred.

That should be the goal but that’s also why fans get upset when they don’t live up to expectations. Also, there’s a big difference between saying “Sweet 16” and “Making the NCAA Tournament.”

In sales, they say “undersell, over deliver.” When you do the opposite, it leads to a disappointing customer experience. For that same reason, there’s many upset UB fans that wanted more from this squad.

These are my thoughts summed up by one response.

You’ve had years to think of a replacement.  Who’s on your short list?

What's my budget? I have a few lists based on what I can spend.

If it has to be 300k, i would pull out my P5 assistants list.

If i can spend 400k - 500k, im going to my low D1 list, like Dustin Kerns.

Had to come out of retirement for this. Wish there was a way the boosters that care about the team could pull all their financial support until changes are made because that’s the only way the school will take notice and action. Money talks

Money always talks. Even if they can just gather enough for a buyout.

This is what happens when you conduct a national coaching search, lowball every qualified candidate and end up being stuck with the career .500 coach. Seriously we had all the momentum in the world to launch our name to a higher tier and instead we have an Athletic Director that is seemingly woefully incompetent and a President that cares more about the academic nerdy old dudes that sit around huffing their own farts all day than what the school seemingly had going for it.

Always good to see you 961819.

Seemingly what i tried to say 2.5 years ago.

Apologies. I like giving the benefit of the doubt to a coach and support. The regression we are in now though is very obvious there is a disconnect between coaches and players

    I honestly do appreciate that.

I just like history. The best indicator for future success is past history. Everyone was mad at me for bringing up his staff as well. His head guy was even a bigger loser (winning % wise) than he was.

Once a .500 basketball coach, always a .500 basketball coach.

Given that as of now we don’t play Akron again, Friday is a must win game. Looking ahead at the schedule, while it get soft, we have a few games that are shaping up to be vital for seeding purposes. IE at Miami. Could be monumental for tiebreak given we lost to them already. Hope your right about the slight edge against Ohio.

If they lose Friday, #1-#3 seed are slim. Amazing play and a weak conference could get them into the #3 seed,  but unlikely if they start 4-4.

To play even in the Championship (let alone win it) is on the ropes right now.

  12. The Bulls could have a matchup order of Miami/Akron - Ohio/Toledo- Ohio/Toledo path.

They haven't beaten one of them, let alone three in three days.

I had them at 23-8 preseason.

Right now they are projected 18-11 (12-7) and the most likely 4 seed.

  13. I think for me it's the attendance.

We saw what it was like under Hurley and Oats.

The Kent game was embarrassing on national TV. This is what the public thinks of the current state of the team, it's not opinion. They've expressed their thoughts. As much as it's silly, losing to Canisius has hurt the perception of the program. Especially from those who reach out to me to ask me my thoughts.

Through the highs/lows the team just looks discombobulated.

  14. When I created this thread, I never thought we would make it to page 45. Here we are. I hope you all have been well. I miss a lot of my guys here @961819, @Big 4 Hoops Blogger, @Jesephand others. I appreciate all the tweets and passion with UB sports.

I just want what's best for the UB basketball program which is now considered a great mid major. Is it Arizona State? No. Is it one that should see the tournament at the very least every other year? Yes. They have the resources and ability to do so.

I can't say who or who isn't within the department on this board. I can say with 100% certainty that they are on here. You can take my honest word for it.

The Canisius loss to Reggie stung. We can tell by the activity here, my DMs, and our social accounts.

  15. Brewton/Jack/Perry will play for the same role.

This more says to me that maybe something could be happening with Brewton or Jack? I find it super strange the way it went down. He isn't coming here to redshirt, so this is an interesting addition.

Not a huge fan of the low shooting percentage, but i do like the limited turnovers and high FT% something that our players have struggled with. A flyer player from the A10.

Must have had a fun weekend playing pickup wearing all UB gear with Brewton in South Carolina 🙄... IG post liked by literally the entire team. I'll wait to hear the whole story, but I'm prepared to be fully miffed.

I’m going with a playing time issue that was relayed to him or he heard from bigger schools. That’s all that makes sense.

What a bizarre saga. Sad to say his entire time here has been completely consistent with what I heard from kids who played with him growing up. Hope he figures things out at some point.

A nail in the coffin of some awful 2019 and 2020 classes.

But does this now clear the way for Blocker?

I know he had someone in his ears about playing up. He stayed at UB to be cleared, then decided to try for P5.
