  1. Sensing a real emerging interest in UB football on the board. Hope springs eternal? So, two questions: 1) anyone go and meet Coach Lembo this past week? If so, impressions? Insights? 2) when does spring practice start? Guesses/info on the Spring Game? 3) I know I said "two questions", but I changed my mind....any QB candidate updates from those of you in the know; or from those who want to take a wild-ass guess? Go Bulls!
  2. And Alex Grinch is going to Wisconsin (sorry Daveysbrew) with a chip on his shoulder. Apparently he feels under-appreciated? Good lord, he has been an abomination, in my opinion, since he left tOSU and agent to OU/USC... I guess to be good in today's game, your self image needs to be high....or you need to be high, imo.
  3. It's a story worth repeating... On Dar's and my first game in 2008 with our new season tickets, we were wandering around looking for our seating seaction/row/seats. A man came up, dressed in a suit and asked if he could help us? We told him we were new tix people and needed to find our seats, etc.. He offered to take us to them, which I graciously declined, but did accept his directions to same. Turns out it was Warde. Since then, I have met another AD who didn't even say hello, but just blew me off at the last UB Kick-Off Luncheon @ The Millenium (sp?) Hotel. Apparently, my booking just one table of eight wasn't enought to merit a hello, or kiss my derrierre, or whatever. His lap dogs did come by and ask what I could do to get more fans from Canada to come to UB...? Who do you thinkk I remember favorably? PS...also met the current AD a couple of years ago. He too, seemed gracious and thoughtful. Competency tbd....I have patience.
  4. Makes sense. At the risk of asking a really dumb question, when you say "College games are to be played on Saturday, unless...."...is that enshrined in league by-laws, for example, or simply tradition. If the latter, I'm surprised there hasn't been more dallying with alternatives.... In the end, I just wish they played a few more Friday night games too.
  5. Anyone know why FCS teams don't play on other than Saturday night (Week 0/1...and Nichols-Southeast Louisiana excepted). As you may know, I have been at all the FBS stadiums and started poking at FCS stadiums two or three years ago. If they only play on Saturdays, I am neither rich enough, nor likely to live long enough to get to every FCS stadium as well. Dar and I will be at the UB opener on the 29th of August. Then we will head to either Morehead State or Dayton for an FCS game. I sure wish there were a few Friday night games. Anyone know why they only (generally) play Saturdays? Just curious....
  6. Thanks for posting the link...I forget to check some Buffalo stuff from time to time; golf gets in the way 😞
  7. Can't a "nepo hire" be qualified?
  8. Agree 100% on the S&C coach point. Another team I follow had Jerry Schmidt as the S&C guy under Stoops. Riley chased him away and brought in Benny Wiley to support Alex Grinch's "Speed D"...pilates and strecthing were the new order of the day Schmidt went to TA&M. I'm not sure that they ever gave up less that 40 points a game after Schmidtty left. When Riley left for USC (West), he took Wiley and Grinch (and other coaches and players) with him. How did that work out...(Hint: Heisman's = 1; Pre-season hype = 1000; CFP appearances = 0) Schmidtty came back and in year two, OU went from 6 wins to 10 wins. Yes I know that scheduling, S.O.S., player development all play a part, but to a man, all would say that Jerry Schmidt made a huge positive difference. So let's go Pete. Find a great S&C guy. They'll pay for themself!
  9. Fedup....you sound fed up. Sorry to see you go...., but it sounds best for you.
  10. Always sorry to see a UB fan get disenfranchised. I've seen bad years, dreadful years and even some good years. But I think I'll hang around...
  11. I am afraid we have awoken the sleeping giant...
  12. Well said. The proof is in the pudding; but the ingredients sure look good.
  13. Well, now that we have a coach, can we get a quarterback? I'd have preferred a successful FCS, DII or DIII coach, but would love to have to eat those words.
  14. I just realized that while Tunney was playing for the Brantford Majors, there was another up and coming kid playing for the Brantford Steelers (Minor Hockey)....some 10 year old guy by the name of Gretzky. A lot of good came out of (1971) Brantford.
  15. Through all of this turmoil (I was going to say bologna) it is the young men on the team that I am concerned about. None of them signed up for this kind of calamity. If any had a chance to move on to anything more stable, that would be more than understandable. I was trying to imagine what it would feel like to go into work and have no boss; nor your colleagues have a boss; and wonder if the business plan was still in place. I can only just hope that I would have had the courage and strenghth to put my head down and hold the course until thinks cleared up. But this is crazy for these young people. I'll cheer even louder at the spring game for each and every one of them.
  16. This reminds me of when Lance was hired. I was playing golf with a fellow who is in the Michigan HS Hall of Fame as a coach. I asked him if he thought a D3 guy could make the transition to FBS successfully. His answer, "A good coach will always be a good coach". I vote for option 2 mentioned previously.
  17. I received the email today saying that the auto-renewal program was being re-instated, and I'd get my notice on January 29th for the renewal. Works for me. I usually have a hassle getting the UB Account Manager to accept my Canadian address for payment. Heck loonies and twonies are cash too! Also notice that the renewal price is the same as 2023. Based on what I paid to see last year, that seems at least fair 🙂 Maybe this will be the year that Mo gets it together.....(or maybe not!).
  18. You captured how I am coming to feel about it too. Sad. I've been a college football fan for more years than a lot of board members have been alive, but my passion is waning. I find it tough to get invested in young athletes when they are not invested in the team. That is not a condemnation of them. I get the economics and such. But I used to know that when a player committed to OU or UB that they were in for the duration in all likelyhood. Now, even at P5 schools, you can't get invested. Caleb Williams taught me that. I'll keep my UB season tickets, and go to most of the games; catch the odd UB road game; and see a few more games elsewhere. It's okay, but it is surely different. And life (and football) go on...
  19. Good series, but hard to get to excited about the dates...especially at my stage of maturity (age)
  20. Good to see you back drfish. I won't drag you back into the Big 8 chats like times past. Hope it's a good game for both teams. Boomer...'er, Go Bulls.
  21. I am very envious of those of you who are attending tonight's game. I gave my tickets away, so at least they will get put to use. I'll have to settle for following on cbssports cast, or something similar. No ESPN3 in Canada. Give an extra cheer or two on behalf of Dar and I...oh heck, have another beer or two on behalf of Dar and I (provided you're not driving) 🙂 #UBhornsUp
  22. On the plus side, I received my UB Parking Passes today 🙃
  23. Sad I can't be there, but I will cheer on from afar. A good game to start the season with and work out any last minute kinks...then an extra two days of prep/rest time time before Nebraska. Go Bulls!
  24. Or some of us that may not be able to attend, in spite of renewing season tickets and writing to politicians to open the border both ways.
  25. But how will they know if someone has had their vaccination or not? I agree with this guideline, just not sure how you implement/police?
