  1. Hurley was a big name, brought the media spotlight. Yeah UB went dancing, some of those players he even recruited himself. As an alum, I thought he was embarrassing. Personally I had to soul search wether the ends justified the means. youtube “Bobby Hurley blooper” and tell me that’s what you want as an ambassador of your alma mater. That clip is only a few weeks old, so it’s not like he has grown. Personally I was happy he left and took all the other prema donnas with him.
  2. The whole myth that beating a team 3x in one season is hard or unlikely is one of those sport cliches with no basis in reality. The team that won the first two wins the third at a 72.4% clip. As far as sports betting odds go, practically a sure thing.
  3. I think Toledo is the perfect opponent to get Harris back on track. They can’t guard him. Playing Toledo is his happy place.
  4. Waiting these last few minutes before tipoff are the worst.
  5. If UB wins the tourney 90% of the time going forward, after a couple decades, they could move it to Buffalo. We just have to beat the rest of the conference’s fans into submission. One can dream, yeah?
  6. Uhh... where to begin... don’t like the message boards complaints about lack of effort. They played. Agree Jordan is now in the ‘hack a shaq’ realm. He can’t be on the court when the game is close. Which is unfortunate giving everything else he does. Almost posted that the other night when we substituted Segu in late to take the obvious free throws. Saying we need to take Harris off the court is silly. Your asking a head coach to be a fortune teller. Sucks it happened but... who are you going to put your bets on? I’ll take Harris, to bad tonight I’d be wrong. They did a great job of playing the pass and forcing UB to shoot. Normally we pass our shooters open. anytime I pick an ESPN SFTC prop, pick against it.... At large wise? We now have to root both BGSU and NIU to win from this point out. Not done yet but the margin is slim. Ranking wise..? Fun but do we care? True fans know we are fighting for a banner, not a number. Hang a beautiful banner. Please.
  7. The whole student revenue is a much bigger issue around our MAC brethren then here. Yeah we survive on student fees, but the population of the fees is diminishing around the MAC more so then at UB. Thank god the degree at UB still means something. Worth the price of the ticket. Some of our conference mates are struggling to make that same argument.
  8. All true. But I would take the deal if I were Rutgers president. Rather be the whipping boy then outside the castle freezing my ass off. Especially when the powers at be seem determined to shut out the peasants when the cold front of tv money seems to be approaching.
  9. You dropped your bedazzled baby shaker, let me pick that up for you. Make sure mommy boils it before you get it back. totally felt the same way after reading that quote. No MAC coaches or teams were impressed/intimidated with their quick start. They understand the grind. Coach speak sometimes just comes off as dumb.
  10. Just looking at the BGSU schedule. Damn if there was an easy ride in the MAC this year, they got it. (I suppose if there was a year we wanted the toughest route this was it, so no complaints there). They very well may end up the 2 seed in result. Which may send a combination of EMU, Toledo, NIU to our side of the bracket. You gotta beat them all regardless I suppose.
  11. Yeah, Nebraska got rushed in while their AAU status was still in tact. Dropped from the AAU soon after BIG acceptance. What the BIG wants, the BIG gets.
  12. Our UB Bulls finally making an appearance on ESPN’s Streak for the Cash. Going strait up who will win. I like those odds.
  13. Was Tom Golisano’s most intriguing policy position. In fact, only one I remember.
  14. Jeseph your level headedness takes the fun out of this.
  15. Ok bobby, I’m sick of shoveling so I will play. Love your posts and love of UB athletics. Just want to get that out of the way. no one is expecting BSU to compete with Indiana, Purdue or ND for recruits. But those schools are competing for recruits nationally, like McDonald’s all American players. So we can kind of erase them off the competition list. Then you named Butler. Former MAC member, went from the Horizon league to BE just recently. I have underwear older then their BBall success. A few decades ago they were not in the same conversation as BSU. Valpo? IUPUI? That is like saying how could UB possibly contend in a state with Siena and .... can’t think of a satellite commuter school in NY that plays basketball... anyway, how did BSU get past by the likes of Butler is my original point and that is a shame that it happened because a rising tide lifts all ships. Maybe UB being so late to the party is part of the problem. But if we are to continue growing the MAC needs to as well. Hell, they don’t even need to grow, just stand back up to the heights they were previously. BSU is laying down. now can we expect growth from any of the ohio schools? It reminds me of the Simpsons episode when Mr Burns at the doctor finds out he has every disease and they are just jammed in a door stopping anyone of them from killing him. Good luck w that.
  16. So BSU sucks at basketball because their players are dumb or just surrounded by too many dumb people? Makes some sense actually.
  17. So obviously I see our program through our beautiful royal blue shaded glasses and always felt UB was a sleeping giant inside the MAC waiting to emerge. (No, we are not there yet.) I have also always leaned more basketball then football, but felt the university could/should dominate both. But speaking exclusively from the basketball side, Batman needs joker, etc. I kinda thought that would be Ball State. Big state school, basketball crazed state, beautiful arena, good budget, good history, close to recruit rich cities... MAC could be a great basketball conference but BSU needs to get their act together. I hope they do.
  18. The MAC has associate members in wrestling (Memphis, ODU, N Iowa) and has had football only members in the past but moving all the Olympic sports out and staying football only would be a no deal as far as the conference is concerned. Some big east members play football but not FBS, which is a no go for UB. And despite our recent BBall success their are better options out there that fit the BE mold, SLU, Dayton etc.
  19. I’ve watched Nevada play. They are better than UB. We have 5 seniors and would have the look of freshmen in comparison. They remind me of the FSU team from a few years back that had the 30 yr old military guy on their team. (Obviously exaggerating a little)
  20. Opposite scenario. Jordan full steam ahead releases a high arcing tear drop shot in the lane, ball leaving his hand right before the buzzer. His momentum has him crash into an awaiting Kent defender outside the arch, feet planted. Shot before, offensive foul after the buzzer. What now? Shot count? No foul? Just to raise the stakes the Kent defender bounced his head and is concussed.
  21. If the clock stops at the foul, then Jordan got the shot off. How can you put time on the clock but say no basket because time ran out but there this much time left.... Something was missed here. No way that was the right call. Kinda funny that Oats was trying to get the guys to run off the floor ASAP. He was too busy trying to steal a basket then make the argument he should of been making.
  22. Agree completely that UB and Nevada are in the same situation. Nevada has been putting up huge margins of victory lately and UB has not, rankings are fair-ish. Going forward UB is not in an impossible spot in regard to maintaining or rising in the ranks, but the wins need to be more comfortable going forward. Margin matters.
  23. Purdue is a legit top 10 team. Worst loss is ND on neutral court. Every other loss would of been a big road upset otherwise. They’ve basically blown everyone out that they should of.
