  1. So I go to sportcenter to see some highlights. None. In a 60 minute show, of a game on the ESPN networks. I did get Stony Brook Basketball's comeback from a 22-0 deficit vs George Washington tho. YAY SUNY Anywho, Basketball moving their start of play back to Tuesday, along with election day, meant our MACtion game was very overshadowed. Which is a shame as a Saturday Senior Day Rout would have been great for our Seniors and our fan support in the season. (although temperature in the 30's high wind and snow might not have got too many more fans in the stands)
  2. Alabama Football has enough money to buy their band 40k worth of instruments. The football program was apparently not concerned with the optics of their band begging for cash.
  3. UConn with a weird plan for a 45 million dollar Ice Hockey Arena, gives us a taste of the cost to startup at UB. http://www.courant.com/sports/hockey/hc-sp-uconn-board-of-trustees-committees-discuss-financial-plan-for-ice-hockey-arena-20181029-story.html UConn Blog is not a fan however, if you're gonna do it, do it right they say: https://www.theuconnblog.com/2018/10/30/18042560/uconn-huskies-mens-hockey-new-hockey-rink-arena-ice-bus-freitas-ice-forum-xl-center-hockey-east
  4. "Imagine Alabama doing crowdfunding" Don't have to, they did. https://crowdfunding.ua.edu/project/8324 Again I don't get the embarrassment of this, I think it's good that they are doing things slightly outside the box and engaging the fans.
  5. The MAC Tournament Men's and Women's Quarterfinals will exclusively be on ESPN+ Women's Semi's are on ESPN+
  6. Wonder if that hurts us in the polls. In the ESPN3 days pollsters could just throw our games, on...now I don't know... do they get free espn+?
  7. The irony is the midwest teams don't want to go to the pinstripe bowl because it's too far and hotels are too expensive. The Yankees should be pushing for a UB - Syracuse bowl, our International Bowl attendance was 50% higher than the average of the other International bowls, and attendance for the international bowl, 40,184 would be the 3rd highest attended Pinstripe Bowl. You could basically pencil in a sell out.
  8. Payouts don't really matter cause it goes to the conference. They pool everyones payout, then give everyone an equal payment after expenses.
  9. Buffalo market is 586,930 households. 7.8 is a percentage = 45,781 households max of 11.3 = 66,323 households If you chose to believe 4/household is a good assumption, then you get 183,122 -265,292 people.
  10. https://appstatesports.com/news/2018/10/12/app-state-athletics-facility-projects-approved-by-board-of-governors.aspx Appalachian State End Zone Facility and premium seating and track removal. while the two grandstands will still be track distance away from the action, the End Zone facility will have premium seating up close to the action once they remove the track. The project will cost 45 million. They apparently cannot lower their field as it sits on solid rock and the cost to break through is prohibitive. https://www.hcpress.com/news/appalachian-105-development-project-approved-by-unc-board-of-governors-softball-field-new-tennis-courts-and-track-to-be-installed.html They purchased land for 18 million and for 11.8 million plan to build an outdoor track, outdoor tennis courts, indoor tennis courts, indoor batting cages for softball, an outdoor softball stadium and coaches meeting room and locker rooms.
  11. Overarching theme is taking a risk but making it work. Big Risk firing Reggie and going Hurley. But 150% the right move in hindsight. Big Risk going NYBI, poor execution, probably the wrong move in hindsight. Big Risk announcing the East/West Club, as it was probably the most ambitious building project, right move as it helped fund the fieldhouse Played it safe, keeping and extending Quinn, not sure if it was good or bad, and I'd say the jury is still out on Lance... PROs Has the great 2013 season He recruited Tyree The OL is great CONs Possibly cost us a MAC championships in 2013 Had to pay a buyout Weak at the skill positions Weak Brand
  12. Repurposing Kunz was the plan in the AD Redacted Master plan. I assume the biggest issue with that would be the distance, I feel the University wants a united Athletics area. I of course want to put football on South Campus, so I care little about united Athletics Area, although I do think if you put a track locker room at Kunz, but then they had to do a majority of their practices at the fieldhouse, it's pretty annoying. You could solve that by building a competition level indoor track next to Kunz, but now we're spending more money.
  13. What's the biggest factor that allows them to make so much progress? Just overall Texas athletic culture? Proximity to the money in Dallas?
  14. Albany built their track for 5 Million in 2013, Stony Brook built theirs for 3 Million in 2011. It can be done cheaper. Maybe UNT went top shelf? or Maybe Texas has some restrictive state requirements as well...I read they had some ground stability issues they had to solve before building.
  15. We need a #3 WR to step up...right before the FGB-6 we had the AJ decoy doubled and Charlie Jones one on one vs a LB. We score there, the game changes. AJ in opens up KJ, with AJ and KJ going, Rushing Jones etc are wide open... But without AJ, KJ was suffocated and no one stepped up... 2008 we needed Hamlin and EJ with Roosevelt. We need that consisted #3....I expected Rushing or Nunn to be the guy and both need to step up
  16. N. Texas' track and soccer complex cost 13.6 million. Includes a sand based soccer field, 8 lane track, seating for 1500 and a 14,000 sq ft field house housing coaches offices, locker rooms, a team meeting area and a student-athlete lounge. In my "modest proposal" I estimated 6 million for a new track, I assume the Field House contributed to some of the higher cost of UNT's project.
  17. A topic of interest for me. This thread can house various plan from around the country. As we wait for UB to unveil their next Athletics Master Plan. North Texas: https://www.lightthetower.com/ https://www.lightthetower.com/images/masterplanbook.pdf Notes: Love the video. The plan is very polished and professional. Love adding tailgate parking, gotta have projects that will benefit the fans! Love moving the softball field to correct the orientation (devil's in the details)! Dislike: No $$ in the plan, (It's not real if you can't tell me how much it costs) and no ETA or Target date for the future plans, (again not real if you can't tell me when you actually think it will happen)
  18. If you want safety, you should knock on the 2 yard line.
  19. 1) This is not how marketing works, at least not in the 21st century. You identify target markets. Then you direct your message to the target. It's hard to define our market as Buffalo, when I assume a majority of our students come from outside of Buffalo. Also, this changes vastly based on what you are targeting. Are you targeting eyeballs, corporate dollars, deep-pocket donors, state funding, or turnstile fans. If turnstile, yea Buffalo is your target. If the other 3, you're better off targeting the entire state. 2) Look at the map. NOW IGNORE RUTGERS because it destroys the narrative. 3) You listed Syracuse, Louisville, Miami, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Boise State, and Memphis as models to follow, but I don't see Pitt, Cincy or Memphis on the map, why not? 4) How does it alienate key stakeholders? 5) How are these stakeholders vital to the success of these programs going forward? 6) Why does the appreciation of Danny White turn them from supporters to ignorers? 7) What did he over sell? 8 ) What did he under deliver? 9) Who was on the wrong side of Danny White's promises? 10) Make you more reluctant to do what? Now after re-reading this thread, I'm going to list all the arguments you laid forth as to why we shouldn't like White: A) White really liked to promote himself. (Personally, I believe an AD should be the chief promotional officer, his successes are departmental) B) You don't believe he was our savior. (I personally only praise Turner Gill as my one true savior, for he sacrificed 4 years coaching Mack, to die in Kansas for our sins ) C) The NYBI was horrible, not the effort to use NY or promote UB as NY's school, but the use of the hashtag NYBI. (I liked the I, made me feel like I was part of the team) D) He didn't take responsibility for failures. (I can rock with this, although failures are rarely singular) E) He wasted money (but was it money he raised?) F) He led to a lack of progress. (sure?) G) He did some things poorly, things that build a program that keep coaches from getting poached. (what were/are these things?)
  20. Danny White hired Scott Frost December 1, 2015. Scott Frost immediately begins recruiting Hawaii committ McKensie Milton. Frost has a lot of sway in Hawaii as he oversaw the rise of Marcus Mariota. A month later Milton decommits from Hawaii goes to UCF, earns starting job by week 3 and has gone 20-6 as a starter. No White, no Frost, no Milton, and maybe I'm staring at a "National Championship" trophy instead of ADDW.
  21. Branded...What kind of fundraising would you like to see? I don' t dislike crowdfunding, it's a tool in the toolbox, and I agree with Millennium that it is probably seen as a way to attract new donors and to start building those donors towards becoming regular contributors. I dislike OUR crowdfunding attempts because I feel they miss the spirit of the crowdfund which I feel is funding a shared good...there is already a mechanism to crowdfund for Football's needs, the excellence fund. But if you were like we need $50k to bring Kelly Clarkson to the homecoming tailgate series, or something like that, I feel that would be something perfect for crowdfunding. My two major complaints about fundraising at UB are: 1) as a out of towner, is that fundraising rewards are all focused on being in Amherst. I assume most of our alumni are not close to Amherst, and I think that's an issue that really needs to be fixed. 2) most of our fundraising is focused on private good. VIP seats, fieldhouse no one can use, training rooms, refueling stations, locker rooms. One of these days it would be nice to focus on something the fans can actually use and enjoy (cough Stadium Track cough)
  22. I'm still mad that half the time we made him drop back in coverage. But amazed that he worked so hard on his coverage that he led the team in interceptions his senior year.
  23. Quick looks since 2006 (based on today's conference affiliation). American 13 (6 home) ACC 7 (2 home) B1G 7 (0 home) Army 5 (3 home) Big XII 4 (2 home) SEC 4 (all away) Gotta fix that stadium before we start inviting real teams to play...
  24. Interim AD Maher - didn't make us better (but signed Reggie to Canisius, reviving the rivalry!) Warde - Brought us into the 21st century in Athletics, got us a football championship. GOAT White - Brought us our Basketball Championships, and despite ambitions and probably family taking him away quickly, he set us up with a foundation for success which he doesn't as much credit as he deserves because people hate the NYBI. ALSO GOAT Greene - No one likes an Austerity President. His only major hire (correct me if I'm wrong) is our recently departed Softball Coach. I think the UB fan will see his greatest success was not messing anything up, but he'll be loved by the fairweather fans who will see him as the guy who restored Buffalo and built a fieldhouse. Interim AD Twist - Did what Greene and Warde and White couldn't do, retain a superstar coach. ALSO GOAT Alnutt - Not sure anyone knows what his vision is. But he seems charismatic and has a genuine nature we haven't seen since Warde. He will get credit for keeping FLJ, and will be more or less defined by his management of Leipold and the Football program come November-December.
  25. I was at UB training camp in mid-August and we looked ready to compete. Two weeks later I was rushed home from the Crenshaw mall (to buy business clothes, because previously my job was to stand around and watch football) to listen to the Bulls game alone at 4pm. I began to think maybe I made a mistake. Anywho, Britt ate us alive. I hope we beat Rutgers and never play them again so we can have "won the last game" bragging rights over RU and UConn
