  1. His coach at Missouri got fired. How many schools are on their 3rd+ coach in 3-4 years?
  2. taking the shot with 13 seconds left with the shot clock off is the 2nd most devastating 13 seconds in my life.
  3. I don't think institutions see this as a problem. The major issue will arise if NIL money eats away at institutional donors and sponsorships. This hasn't happened yet. If anything, I think donations are up..which makes sense, Syracuse W Basketball, USC Football, and other cases, pay the buyout, fire the loser coach, buy a new coach AND get an instant infusion of better players. Money well spent. Will constant roster churn impact ticket sales? I would think no. Ultimately you root for whoever is in the laundry.
  4. The tragic thing for me is the P5 (and/or every journalist in NY went to Syracuse) bias. If kept Jack, Fair, Wooley, McEvans etc it wouldn't have made a blip. Put those pieces on Syracuse and there is a noticeable buzz. Is this on us? Do we need a cheerleader ADDW type that pumps up our teams? Or is this just one of many growing straws that will ultimately break the G5 camel's back?
  5. I think it's clever...FLJ talks about her "recommitting to her" in a time when so many players are decommitting via portal. Now when FLJ goes to talk to a star transfer or 5 star senior, she can say my star, Fair spent two years with me, then visited the best of the best, and she still felt this was family and the best place for her...and it will be for you too.
  6. I got into USC the february before graduation, but I'm old enough for that to have been before everyone started decorating their mortar boards...but had there been decorations I would have probably put the SC on it. Now I haven't been welcomed back with open arms, but thats probably for other reasons lol.
  7. True, but then at least you're bringing in freshmen who are committed to at least 2 years, and hoping they stay for 4 or 5 like CJ Massinburg or Khalil Mack...instead of freshmen who you recruit and play only for them to leave immediately like Woolley. What is the value of recruiting a freshman 1-year rental? Obviously, in this case, it helped UB WBB get a ring, but you could have also gotten that productivity from a grad transfer with less resources and less coaching time put into building the player up.
  8. I spent some part of my career monitoring Satisfactory Academic Progress. If you fail or withdraw from too many courses, you lose your financial aid eligibility. Regular students withdraw and transfer all the time, sickness, parent issues, homesickness, lack of money...and they tend to fly blind, with no advice. Athletes losing semesters via transfer is in no way an issue, because they generally have people advising them throughout the process. When I was in grad school, I wrote about re-instating the ban on 1st year participation that was killed in 1972. Let freshmen come in and do 3 days of practice instead of 5 or 6, do not allow them on the sidelines on game day, let them sit in the stands. Get them a good start on their academics, and let them become part of the community first, THEN let them become athletes working for that community. No way the NCAA does this now, but maybe mid majors should consider it...vs playing a freshman and having him/her have no connection to anything outside the gym and then transferring.
  9. I guess I have a different definition of "resume" we're talking 1 good D1 year.
  10. No, I expected Mid-Major or Higher AC. But I'm just shocked that people are gushing about her resume. 2 years at D1, high NET rank of 223 (based on NET if USC-Up was in the MAC, they'd be 11th between Miami OH (218) and EMU (242)). Flame out in the conference tourney. It's risky bet on young upside to me, not the impressive proven resume hire.
  11. NAIA coach D2 Coach and a first round exit in the Big South tourney as a 3 seed. I'm not impressed
  12. Coaches are saving scholarships "just in case" for transfers Men have 13 scholarships, and really only 10 guys getting playing time, in the past I could give 3 walk-on's scholarships or take a chance on a freshman. Now I might want to just let those 3 scholarship sit on the shelf, just in case someone talented is interested in transferring. So coaches are artificially creating the scarcity, then citing the scarcity as the reason why the players are wrong.
  13. I would have liked a quicker resolution. That said if I talked to the players and they said they would follow FLJ, then I would hold off on hiring anyone, to protect them from the inevitable "she couldn't keep the roster" as AD I'd take the arrows, "we wanted to do a thorough nationwide search and unfortunately some student athletes transferred during the process, however after that search I'm confident that Assistant Coach X will rebuild."
  14. Wasn't the East/West/G-Club in there?
  15. Sadly not everyone has honor. I'm still bitter about getting burned on one of these deals (Karma handled it tho). No real remedy for us middies when the big dogs tamper, maybe you negotiate a larger buyout, but pretty much it's best to move on and focus on your new coach than look like you're fighting over sour grapes.
  16. That is extremely not the case. If you're passing your classes, you'll be fine. Plus, when normal students talk about a 4-year degree it's usually 8 semesters. Athletes have 5 years and generally get summer funded, and can show up in spring as HS Seniors... getting up to 17 semesters. They can easily eat 2 transfers and leave with their bachelor's and masters. When I worked at San Fran law school our ranking went down so we had to admit some lower caliber students and worked hard to build them up into killer 1Ls, inevitably, a bunch immediately transferred to Stanford or Berkeley...
  17. Cherie Cordoba left us for a lateral role at a P5, would presumably do so again if she can win a MAC or two. Jumping up and down for Sharkey. Sharkey has been at UB since 2010, played with or coached with Kourtney Brown, Loesing, Dillard, Fair. She could keep us winning and represents the best chance for us to retain a successful coach. Duke could get any coach to replace K, they are staying in house. Cuse could get almost anyone to coach their women, they reached out for an alum who bleeds orange. We should to do the same.
  18. gotta change that AVI I guess I do too since Mr. Buckets has graduated.
  19. Cierra Dillard was the most entertaining Bull i've ever watched on any team. Im sure we can keep winning, Idk if we have that X factor anymore... Also the end of the era with CMU hurts, but I'm looking forward to continuing what we started with Ohio last year...im sure the Cats think it's their turn now.
  20. Based on cumulative winshares starting with the 2010-11 season C Perkins - 11 winshares (4 seasons) F McCrea - 19 winshares (4 seasons) F Regan - 8.3 winshares (3 seasons) G Harris - 9.5 winshares (2 seasons) G Massinburg - 19 winshares (4 seasons) Which is the OP's list with Regan inserted for Clark... Clark had a 3.5 winshare in his one season with the Bulls, which makes sense, as he missed a lot of that season and because Oats' style meant a lot of guys contributed to each win... 3.5 winshare is tied for 18th best single season in the decade. CJ has the top two single seasons with 7.1 in 18-19, and 5.9 in 17-18. McCrea has the next two highest single season winshares with 5.6 and 5.3, tied for 6th best is Harris and Moss with 5, and at 4th best, Darkhorse candidate for inclusion because his senior seasons was 2010-11....Byron Mulkey with a 5.1 winshare that season... 2nd team would be C Watt - 7.5 winshares (2 seasons) F Hamilton - 6.8 winshares (2 seasons) F Caruthers - 7.3 winshares (3 seasons) G Filzen - 6.7 winshares (2 seasons) G Evans - 6.2 winshares (2 seasons) 3rd team would be Skeete 6.1 (4 seasons) Moss 5.9 (2 seasons) Watson 5.7 (3 seasons) Connor 5.5 (2 seasons) Bearden 5.4 (2 seasons)
  21. Because Moss was a beast and I think would have been an all time great if he didn't have sticky fingers... and because you gotta bring Perk in off the bench, I think I'd go C Watt F Moss F McCrea G CJ Massinburg G Wes Clark 6th Perkins 7th Hamilton 8th Harris 9th Caruthers Coach - Nate Oats
  22. It was the final home game of the season '05. My Jared ("don't call me Jaret") Patterson figure still travels with me from office to office.
  23. Tyree being deemed UDFA, makes AJ's value even higher in my mind. Everything changed once AJ was on the field and things got worse when AJ was off. I'm incredibly shocked he didn't get drafted. The Bosa kid got an injury sat out most of the year got drafted #2. Ed Oliver nursed an injury all season, got drafted #9. Hawaii's Ursua had two monster seasons in the run and shoot offense, but tore his ACL in 2017 and had a lingering injury in 2018 similar to AJ this year...however Ursua skipped his bowl game to prepare for the NFL, and got healthy enough to get drafted in the 7th despite below average NFL size... Hawaii's offense sputtered in the bowl without Ursua and UH got blown out by La Tech. Meanwhile AJ kept coming back when he had nothing left to prove, almost won us a MAC title on one leg, yet ends up UDFA. Message seems clear the NFL only pays lip service to the character part of being there for your team, but ultimately they only care about the 40 and cone times... AJ vs 6th round pick Scott Miller 2017: AJ 8 for 160 2 TDs - Miller 10 for 108 1 TD 2018: AJ 4 for 26 0 TDs - Miller 4 for 115 2 TD (Miller caught a 63 yard TD while BGSU was down 44-7 midway through the 4th)
  24. My takeaway UB women more or less > than Bona men?
  25. Ah my math was very rough but should be 50 x 11 sports treating men’s and women’s xc, indoor and outdoor as one team... = 550 football = 300 wrestling is no change... cost +850k Track possibly lower as, my niece ran indoor/outdoor at Cuse and they mostly ran in- the northeast outside of the ACC champs and the NCAA regional everything else in a conference change is subject to negotiation and a vote. UB would need to negotiate around all the “but what abouts” which means we’d need to be in a place where the aac needs is more than we need them, which I only see as possible if UConn leaves and espn Tells the aac to invite ub
